A
A
A
One
of
the
other
major
reasons
why
we
should
care
is
because
of
the
carbon
footprint.
You
can
see
this
graph.
This
is
actually
from
tim
berners-lee
and
he
used
this
as
evidence
in
a
government's
discussion,
but
the
water,
waste
and
sewerage
that
we
generate
on
a
daily
basis
contributes
two
percent
of
the
carbon
footprint
of
the
uk.
That
doesn't
sound
a
huge
amount,
but
it
actually
is
waste
is
also
costly.
A
It
costs
you
as
taxpayers,
to
manage
it
and
the
better
you
manage
it,
the
less
it
costs
the
council
and,
of
course,
waste.
There
is
no
way
there
is
only
another
destination
that
something
has
to
be
done
with.
A
So
what
is
waste?
Most
people
see
landfills.
This
is
a
landfill
from
just
outside
lewis.
It's
closed
now,
but
this
was
my
holiday
snaps
from
15
years
ago.
This
is
what
it
actually
looks
like
up.
Close.
It's
not
very
nice,
but
you'll,
see.
There's
lots
of
plastic.
There's
lots
of
food,
there's
a
few
bits
of
metal
in
there.
That's
what
waste
is.
This
is
also
waste.
This
is
waste
picked
up
from
the
streets
of
west
sussex
through
a
street
cleanser
mobile
phones
dropped
in
the
street
and
picked
up.
A
This
is
actually
recyclate
not
from
west
sussex,
but
gives
you
an
idea
of
some
of
the
state
of
the
materials
that
are
collected
through
the
curbside
bins,
so
the
recycling
you
put
out
into
your
containers
will
end
up
in
a
pile
like
this
at
some
point
through
various
different
mechanisms
and
the
mechanisms
using
this
as
an
example,
this
is
the
west
sussex
recycling
process
collected
at
the
curbside,
taken
to
a
special
processing
plant,
which
is
called
a
murph
based
in
arundel,
and
then
it's
separated
into
different
material
streams.
A
Now
when
it
comes
to
our
materials,
we've
got
the
hierarchy,
avoid
making
any
waste
in
the
first
place
reduce
what
you
can
reuse.
What
you
can
recycle
what
you
can
recover,
what
you
can
and
then
treat
and
dispose
your
role
as
residents
is
really
to
do
the
avoiding
the
reduction
and
the
reuse
and
make
sure
you
put
stuff
into
recycling.
A
There's
a
little
bit
more
detail
there.
But
fundamentally,
if
you
can
do
that,
then
you're
doing
the
right
thing
for
waste
management.
Now,
there's
a
new
term
on
the
block
circular
economy
over
the
last
few
centuries,
we've
been
making
stuff
using
it
and
then
throwing
it
away
as
non-recyclable
waste.
That's
not
good
for
the
planet,
it's
not
good
for
the
raw
materials
and
it's
it
generates
waste.
A
This
is
very
much
circular
economy.
We've
got
the
brighton
waste
house
which
is
made
out
of
90
post
construction
waste,
really
good
example
of
what
can
be
done
with
materials,
and
if
you
can
get
down
there,
please
do
and
then.
Finally,
my
fa,
one
of
my
favorite
projects,
is
something
I've
set
up.
Tech
take
back
e-waste
or
electronic
waste
is
one
of
our
biggest
problems.
Thank
you
for
your
time.
Hopefully,
that's
been.
