From YouTube: ArtScape Artist Interviews 2022
Description
ArtScape artists discuss their work displayed in Alamosa's 2022 ArtScape public art program.
A
A
From
Baltimore
Maryland
and
the
piece
behind
me
is
called
the
magnify
it's
a
interactive,
kinetic
sculpture
that
spins
kind
of
gyroscopically.
It's
made
from
plasma
cut
steel
and
CNC
cut
half
inch
polycarbonate,
which
is
kind
of
like
bulletproof,
glass
and
with
the
the
designs
are.
A
You
know
printed
directly
onto
the
surface
so
so
far
on
the
this.
This
piece
in
particular,
has
been
installed
in
Columbia
Maryland
for
a
year,
Liberty
Missouri
for
the
year,
and
now
it's
here
in
Alamosa-
and
this
is
my
fourth
year
of
having
some
work
in
in
the
beautiful
city
of
Alamosa
and
I,
want
to
thank
you.
C
Hi,
my
name
is
Damien
radus
I'm
from
Grand
Junction
Colorado.
The
name
of
the
piece
is
Discussion
Group.
This
idea
for
this
piece
came
about
by
a
discussion.
I
had
with
my
father-in-law,
who
was
a
professor
of
Statistics
at
Oklahoma
State,
and
we
were
talking
about
the
differences
between
the
way
a
meeting
would
go
when
the
women
of
the
University
led
the
meeting
and
when
mid
led
the
meeting,
and
he
said
that.
C
Well,
there
was
a
lot
more
discussion
about
feelings
and
procedure
and
how
everybody
will
react
to
say
a
new
idea,
and
it
was
a
lot
of
talking
about
those
things
and
he
was
always
lost
and
that's
important
to
say
that
he
was
the
one
that
was
lost
in
the
discussion.
But
by
the
end
of
the
meeting,
all
the
women
knew
exactly
what
was
going
to
be
done
and
how
the
project
was
going
to
proceed,
and
so
this
is
the
pieces
of
the
show.
C
The
women
having
a
discussion
about
in
a
meeting
I
also
wanted
to
show
what
it
is
like
for
human
beings.
Having
a
discussion
is
that
there
always
seems
to
be
somebody
that
in
the
discussion
that
is
the
most
prominent
person
and
overbearing,
and
you
can
see
that
by
the
way
that
figure
is
pointing
her
finger
at
the
other
individual
and
the
other
individual
is
standing
against
her
and
not
necessarily
agreeing
with
what
she
has
to
say
and
then
there's
always
a
a
person
in
the
meeting.
That
is
the
one.
C
That's
I
call
the
Chicken
Little
and
that's
the
one
that
is
there.
The
sky
is
falling,
the
sky
is
falling
and
her
hair
is
all
just
near,
you
know,
and
it
is
she's
kind
of
an
alarmist
and
then
there's
probably
the
one
that
has
the
best
ideas.
It
would
be
this
individual
here,
but
nobody
ever
listens
to
him.
She's
just
been
talking
into
the
air
there
and
she
probably
has
the
best
ideas,
but
nobody
is
listening
to
her.
C
So
that's
what
the
figure
or
the
figures
mean
and
they're
naked
and
I
have
no
idea
why
they
are.
C
I
also
want
to
thank
Alamosa
for
this
program
and
the
fact
that
it
is
financed
so
well,
and
it
is
part
of
the
line
item
budget
to
keep
the
program
like
this
going.
It's
excellent.
D
Hi
I'm
Sue,
Quinlan
and
I'm
from
Boulder
Colorado,
and
this
piece
is
a
called.
A
totem
and
I
got
the
inspiration
when
we
went
to
the
British
museum
in
London
and
they
had
these
beautiful
totem
poles
from
the
Northwest
and
I
thought.
I
can
do
it
with
my
own
images
and
they're
all
images
from
different
cultures.
So
the
idea
is
the
diversity.
So
it's
to
show
the
diversity
that
we
have
such
a
rich
Heritage
in
the
United
States.
E
Hi,
my
name
is
Sandy
Friedman
I'm,
a
sculptor
and
public
artist,
I'm
from
Colorado
Springs
Colorado,
my
sculpture,
that
I'm
standing
next
to
is
sometimes
you
need
to
go
in
a
different
direction.
You
see,
the
black
shapes
are
twisted.
Life
throws
us
curves
and
we
never
know.
What's
going
to
happen,
the
colored
spheres
on
the
top
depict
how
we
reach
out
and
try
to
find
the
best
way
and
the
best
solutions
to
make
things
work
for
us.
F
Hey
I'm
Jody
Bliss
of
bliss
Studio
Custom
metalwork
in
Monument
Colorado,
and
this
is
the
muse
of
transformation.
G
is
one
of
several
Muses
that
I've
done.
Some
are
in
permanent
collection.
Some
travel
like
the
Muse
of
transformation
to
different
towns,
and
she
is
one
of
my
favorites.
She
is
going
to
have
a
blown
glass
cocoon
here
and
also
a
glass
mandala,
so
you're
going
to
have
to
come
out
and
actually
visit
her
in
person
to
see
that,
but
for
me
she's
all
about
the
magic
of
growth,
which
is
one
of
my
personal
favorite
things.
G
Barbara
bear
from
Denver
and
we
just
installed
my
sculpture
Cala.
It
is
orange
and
green
work
beside
me.
It's
combined
with
cut
shapes
of
aluminum
and
painted
one
half
inch
thick
plexiglass,
so
the
piece
is
designed
to
interact
with
sunlight.
You've
got
great
natural
light
here
and
the
colors
change
and
shift
depending
on
the
movement
of
the
sun
and
the
time
of
day,
it's
meant
to
be
a
snippet
of
a
garden.
If
you
can
imagine,
looking
out
your
window
at
a
beautiful
tropical
plant
and
Lush
orange
blossoms,
so
a
bit
of
Perpetual
Garden.
H
To
take
a
look
hi,
this
is
Annette
Coleman
and
I'm,
a
sculptor
from
Lakewood
Colorado
I'm
standing
in
front
of
my
sculpture,
that
is
made
out
of
stained
glass
on
a
metal
substrate.
It's
called
mid-century,
modern
cacti
and
there's
a
lot
of
different
arrays
of
color
on
this
there's
little
solar
lights.
That
will
light
up
at
night
for
a
few
hours
every
night
so
come
out
and
see
it
not
only
in
the
daytime
but
at
night
as
well.
Thanks.
So
much
for
hosting
of
artists
in
Colorado,
Alamosa
hi.
I
I
It's
Beauty
and
it's
it's
geometric
Beauty
as
well
as
it's
a
jewel-like
beauty
has
captivated
audiences
all
around
the
world,
and
this
actually
has
not
been
the
best
for
the
Nautilus,
because
a
lot
of
people
have
been
harvesting
them
for
Trinkets
and
such
things.
So
this
deep
sea
creature
is
actually
on
the
brink
of
extension
Extinction.
I
So
with
my
sculpture,
I
just
wanted
to
show
people
that
you
could
be
inspired
by
this
beautiful
thing,
but
it's
better
just
to
take
inspiration
and
let
them
just
let
them
be
in
the
ocean
and
I
hope
that
everyone
here
in
Alamosa,
as
well
as
the
visitors,
will
be
inspired
by
this
shell
and
then
they
will
also
keep
in
mind
just
to
let
them
live
in
the
sea.
Thank
you.
Hi.
J
My
name
is
Kyle
Kenneth
I'm
from
Pagosa
Springs
Colorado,
and
this
is
my
piece
Sweet
Apple.
This
apple
is
a
playful
approach
of
the
usual
temptation
of
the
apple
and
it
may
be
hard
to
see
from
this
camera
view,
but
it
almost
looks
as
if
it's
sliced
apart
getting
pulled,
it's
kind
of
a
kinetic
experience
and
because
of
these
layers
it
looks
as
if
the
sculpture
is
moving
and
undulating
and
getting
pulled
another
interesting
part
about
this
sculpture.
J
H
K
Jim
Johnson:
this
is
welcome
few
things
about
to
welcome
one
thing:
being
the
hanser
Caster
bronze
and
the
face
that
way.
I
found
I
could
do
larger
pieces
of
sculpture
and
just
cast
those
parts,
and
the
rest
of
it
is
is
a
sheet,
copper
and
bronze.
This
is
all
bronze
mesh
that
I
picked
up
somewhere
along
the
line
and
all
things
the
whole
thing
underneath
has
a
stainless
steel
structure
holding
it
all
together.
So
it's
it's
meant
for
it's
meant
for
being
outside
for
forever.
