Social & Economic Justice Commission Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month except no meetings in August.

Albany Advisory Body meetings are conducted in person at City Hall Council Chambers. As a courtesy, and technology permitting, members of the public may continue to participate virtually. However, the City cannot guarantee that the public’s access to teleconferencing technology will be uninterrupted, and technical difficulties may occur from time to time.

How to submit Public Comment:
Members of the public may attend Advisory Body meetings in-person at City Hall Council Chambers and request to speak during public comment period.
Members of the public may submit comments in writing by emailing the Social & Economic Justice Commission at SEJC@albanyca.org with the Agenda item number clearly identified in the subject line of the email. Comments may also be submitted by mail to City of Albany – SEJC Meeting Comments, 1000 San Pablo Avenue, Albany, CA 94706. All written comments received by 5 PM on the day of the meeting will be provided to the Commission before the meeting and posted on the website. Other written comments received after 5 PM will still be provided to the Commission and be included as part of the meeting records.
To comment by video conference, click the “Raise Your Hand” button to request to speak during public comment period. You will be asked to unmute yourself when it is your turn to make your comment. After the allotted time, you will then be re-muted.

I
wanted
to
report
an
incident
that
took
place
in
Albany
last
Saturday
an
11
year
old,
African-American
child
was
doing
what
11
year
olds,
sometimes
do
playing
a
game
called
ding
dong
ditch.
This
is
the
game
in
which
children
ring
your
doorbell
and
run
away
happens.
Occasionally
in
my
hood,
the
homeowners
of
one
of
the
houses
chose
to
chase
this
child
down,
threatening
to
beat
and
hurt
her
a
male
was
yelling
and
following
the
child.
While
a
female
was
chasing
her
with
her
car,
this
child
was
terrified.

If
it
is
not
on
the
agenda
for
the
next
meeting,
the
council
cannot
talk
about
it
and
they
need
to
be
talking
about
this
incident.
We
cannot
have
an
African-American
child,
afraid,
they're
going
to
be
killed
on
the
streets
of
Albany
and
the
police
telling
the
parents
that
it
was
a
citizen
doing
their
first
amendment
rights.
That
is
not
acceptable.
The
city
council
should
not
accept
it,
the
SEC
she
should
not
accept
it
and
please
call
or
email
the
city
council
and
tell
them
it
needs
to
be
on
the
agenda
for
the
next
meeting.

that

can't

of
the
brown
act
and

Don't
think
you
have
a
lot
of
power
in
terms
of
what

city
council
does,

this
was

think
a
lot
of
us
just
don't
know
where
else
to
go
and
since
it's
called
the
social
and
economic
Justice
Commission
we're
hoping
that
by
reporting
this
that
something
could
happen.
So
we
try
to
encourage
anybody.

call
into
the
city
council
to
try
to
get
it
on
the
agenda
and

if
there's
anything,
sejc
could
do
just

recommendation

expressing

a

parent

this
child
is
very
very
concerned
or
the
child
was
terrified.
The
police,
from
what
I've
heard
from
the
both
parents
acted
on
in
an
unsupportive
way,
and
it's
really
not
not
a
good
thing
for
Albany.

that
a
restorative
justice
approach
be
taken
to
the

in
this
situation

if
there's
any
way
that
the
sdjc
could
maybe
look
more
into
that

could
suggest

frustrated
because
we
this
happened,

want

extent

which
I
exist
and
how
my
existence
is
constantly
politicized
in
this
climate
and
would
like

be
here
as
a
representation
for
folks
that

a
minoritized
community.

about
the
scjc,

one

anti-racist

also
just
want
to
help

commission
be
productive
and
successful
and
be
a
good
experience.

experience

lot

pain
injected
into
my

five
minutes,

started
feeling
better,

they
came
to

house
