Meeting
these
are
unprecedented
times
and
so
and
to
ensure
that
I
was
able
to
communicate
directly
with
the
council.
We
held
a
press
conference
this
morning
at
10
o'clock.
Not
all
you
were
able
to
watch
that
you
may
have
seen.
The
online
version
I
also
appeared
with
County
Executive
McCoy
and
Sheriff
Apple
at
the
county's
10:30
briefing
this
morning.
Very
briefly,
I
will
recap
what
the
police
went
detailed
as
the
the
timeline
of
what
occurred
yesterday.
As
many
of
you
know,
because
a
number
of
you
participated,
we
had
a
very
peaceful
and
successful
protest.
A
A
There
was
a
group
of
a
roughly
300
people
who
eventually
made
their
way
down
to
the
Capitol
and
then
another
group
that
made
its
way
to
the
governor's
mansion
and
eventually
made
their
way
down
to
South
Station
when
they
arrived
at
South
Station
members
of
the
police
department
came
out
of
the
building
to
prevent
people
from
coming
into
the
police
parking
lot
where
police
cars
were
are
located.
They
were
not
in
riot
gear.
A
A
Ultimately,
the
police
officers
went
back
into
South
Station
and
within
a
very
short
period
of
time.
Individuals
entered
the
parking
lot
smashed.
The
windshields
of
a
number
of
police
vehicles
took
items
from
police
vehicles
and
were
slashing
tires
at
that
time.
In
order
to
protect
the
police
equipment,
the
police
did
come
out
of
the
station
at
that
time
they
were
wearing
their
riot
here
because
of
what
was
occurring.
They
sought
to
secure
the
parking
lot
and
they
were
bombarded
with
bricks,
rocks
and
garbage,
and
you
know
that
is
when
the
the
peaceful
protest
had
ended.
A
This
was
a
riot
and,
as
we
know,
throughout
the
night,
numerous
businesses
suffered
serious
damage
from
both
vandalism
and
looting
along
Pearl
Street,
along
Central
Avenue,
all
the
way
out
to
Hannaford
Plaza
West,
Gate
Plaza
and,
as
we
know,
there
was
looting
and
vandalism
that
occurred
at
Crossgates
Mall
at
establishments
on
Wolf
Road
as
well
as
colonies,
enter
the
at
all
times.
I
was
in
contact
with
the
chief
of
police
and
with
command
staff.
A
We
were
contacted
immediately
by
the
state
and
by
the
governor's
office
we
coordinated
with
the
State
Police,
with
the
sheriff
with
mutual
aid.
We
had
aid
from
colony,
Bethlehem,
Watervliet
Rentschler.
We
received
incredible
coordination
and
cooperation.
There
were
fires
that
were
set,
as
we
know
so.
Afd
responded
and
we
also
had
crews
from
dgs
working
all
night
to
assist
with
board
ups.
So
the
situation,
probably
around
3:30
a.m.
there
was
still
looting
that
was
going
on,
but
it
was
much
smaller
numbers
of
people
and
by
morning
we
were
in
full
cleanup
mode.
A
So
that
is
a
recap
of
what
occurred
during
the
day
yesterday
and
into
the
night
and
into
the
early
hours
of
the
morning,
I
issued
at
approximately
11:00
p.m.
a
curfew
and
I
issued
that
curfew,
because
we
wanted
to
ensure
that
people
knew
that
it
was
dangerous
to
go
out.
It
was
not
safe
to
be
on
the
streets.
Last
night
it
was
not
safe
for
anyone
to
be
on
the
streets.
A
We
have
significant
resources
that
we
can
talk
about
an
executive
session
that
I
can
talk
about
with
respect
to
deployment
tonight,
but
we
made
the
decision
I
made
the
decision
to
extend
that
curfew
to
tonight-
and
this
is
not
about
keeping
people
in
this
is
not
about
people's
First
Amendment
rights.
I
would
love
nothing
more
than
to
say
that
it's
safe
to
march
on
the
streets
and
protest,
but
it
is
not.
A
This
is
about
keeping
people
safe,
so
I,
don't
believe
in
curfews,
I
think
there's
a
long
and
disgraceful
history
of
how
curfews
have
been
used
in
the
past,
but
I
believe
that
at
this
point
in
time,
we
cannot
ensure
that
if
people
venture
out
tonight
that
they
will
be
safe,
that
is
not
a
good
situation
for
us
to
be
in.
It's
unfortunate
that
we're
here,
but
I
think
it's
really
important
to
send
a
message
and
a
very
strong
message
to
people
that
it
is.
A
A
B
A
B
There's
all
those
in
favor
all
those
opposed
motion
passes.
