Well,
it
is
my
great
pleasure
to
welcome
you
here
to
the
legislative
assembly
of
Alberta.
My
name
is
Nathan
Cooper
I'm,
the
speaker
of
the
legislative
assembly,
and
it
really
is
a
great
honor
and
pleasure
to
welcome
you
to
your
house,
the
people's
house,
the
legislative
assembly
of
Alberta
I'd
like
to
take
a
moment
to
acknowledge
our
platform
party.
B
Today,
we've
already
met
the
honorable,
the
lieutenant
governor
of
Alberta
honorable
Selma
lahani
Minister
Muhammad

the
minister
of
immigration
and
multiculturalism,

the
MLA
for
Edmonton

Mr,
Muhammad,
akbal

the
chair
of
the
Edmonton
Council
of

Selma

His

the
nccm,
we're
so
honored
to
have
all
of
you
here.
Please
welcome
them
to
the
assembly
this
morning.
B
It's
been
almost
85
years
since
the
dedication
of
the
first
mosque
in
Canada,
and
it
was
right
here
in
Alberta.
Since
then,
the
Muslim
Community
has
been
woven
into
the
very
fabric
of
our
province
and
they
continue
to
positively
contribute
to
our
Alberta
Society.
Every
single
day
is
a
time
for
Muslims
around
the
world
to
come
together
and
help
those
less
fortunate.
It's
a
time
of
sacrifice
and
good
will
and
I'm
honored
to
be
able
to
celebrate
it
with
each
and
every
one
of
you
today
and
for
this
season.
B
B
B
They
Define
what
it
is
to
be
albertan
at
the
very
core
on
behalf
of
all
members
of
the
legislative
assembly
of
Alberta
I,
wish
you,
our
Muslim
members
of
the
assembly,
a
blessed
Eid
a
lot
of.
May
you
always
come
together
in
times
of
sadness,
happiness,
prayer
and
comfort,
and
may
peace
be
upon.
You
I'd
now
like
to
ask
the
honorable
Samuel
Hani
the
lieutenant
governor
of
Alberta,
to
provide
remarks.
D
All
platform
guests
leaders
from
the
Muslim,
Community
and
I,
don't
know
if
there's
leaders
from
other
Faith
communities
joining
us
here
today
and
all
of
you,
our
distinguished
guests,
assalamu,
alaikum
and
good
afternoon,
I'm
so
delighted
to
be
joining
you
this
afternoon
and
I
would
like
to
begin
by
thanking
speaker
Cooper
for
hosting
this
special
edalada
celebration
in
this
historic
building,
our
Alberta
legislature.
And
for
me
it's
a
real
Delight
to
be
here
as
the
first
Muslim
lieutenant
governor
in
all
of
Canada.
D
I
acknowledge
all
First
Peoples,
who
have
called
this
place
home
for
thousands
of
years
and
who
welcomed
us
here
to
make
our
own
lives.
May
we
always
dwell
together
on
these
lands
with
respect
understanding
and
a
sincere
commitment
to
walking,
alongside
our
indigenous
sisters
and
brothers,
on
the
Journey
of
reconciliation
and
reconcili
action.
D
D
D
D
We
know
about
some
of
the
Muslim
leaders,
who've
been
Trailblazers
here
in
Alberta
and
across
the
country,
but
today
I
would
like
to
also
acknowledge
and
recognize
that
there
are
many,
many
others
who
volunteer
and
work
in
their
own
ways
towards
shaping
a
great
Province
and
Country,
as
is
Majesty.
The
king's
representative
in
Alberta
I
once
again
express
my
sincere
gratitude
as
I
am
immensely
thankful
to
those
who
consistently
demonstrate
their
compassion,
energy
and
talent
in
their
ongoing
efforts
to
cultivate
a
robust
and
flourishing
province
that
benefits
everyone.
B
Thank
you,
your
honor.
It
truly
is
an
incredible
and
special
opportunity
to
have
you
here
with
us
today.
It
is
amazing
to
think
of
those
Trailblazers
in
which
you
have
referenced
in
your
remarks,
who
have
had
this
opportunity
to
have
an
impact
on
our
Province
and
on
faith
leaders
and
I
from
the
very
bottom
of
my
heart
would
like
to
thank
you
for
being
here.
B
F
F
F
F
E
The
Believers
are,
but
one
Brotherhood
so
make
peace
between
your
brothers
and
be
mindful
of
Allah.
So
you
may
be
shown
Mercy,
o
believers
do
not
let
some
men
ridicule
others
they
may
be
better
than
them,
nor
let
some
women
ridicule
other
women.
They
may
be
better
than
them
do
not
defame
one
another,
nor
call
each
other
by
offensive
nicknames
how
evil
it
is
to
act
rebelliously
after
having
faith
and
whoever
does
not
repent
it
is
they
who
are
the
true
wrongdoers.
E
O
Believers
avoid
many
suspicions,
for
indeed
some
suspicions
are
sinful
and
do
not
spy
nor
backbite
one
another.
Would
any
of
you
like
to
eat
the
Flesh
of
their
dead
brother?
You
would
despise
that
and
fear
Allah.
Surely
Allah
is
the
acceptor
of
repentance
most
merciful,
o
Humanity.
Indeed,
we
created
you
from
a
male
and
a
female
and
made
you
into
peoples
and
tribes
so
that
you
may
get
to
know
one
another.
Surely
the
most
noble
of
you
in
the
sight
of
Allah
is
the
most
righteous
among
you.
Allah
is
truly
all-knowing
Allah.

Once
again
this
year
we
are
seeking
nominations
for
the
Alberta
newcomer
recognition
Awards.
We
want
to
send
the
message
that
newcomers
are
talented.
Creative,
hard-working
individuals
who
make
Alberta
ibad
replace
to
live
nominations
are
open
until
July
31st.
Please
share
this
with
your
friends
and
relatives,
and
your
network.
G
Alberta's
government
recognizes
the
value
of
Multicultural
communities
bring
to
our
society
sharing
Traditions
our
own
and
others
reminds
us
that
mutual
respect
is
the
basis
of
peace
and
shared
prosperity
and
the
Beautiful
path
to
better
Alberta
for
all
of
us.
Once
again.
On
behalf
of
Premier
Daniel
Smith,
thank
you
very
much
for
joining
us
today
in
celebration
of
Eid

and
just
before,
I

I
just
wanted
to
say.

B
Thank
you
so
much.
It
really
is
incredible
to
have
you
here
with
us
today.
It
warms
my
heart
to
see
young
people
involved
in
our
ceremony
today.
It
is
incredible
to
see
young
people
like
yourselves,
embracing
your
faith,
sacrifice
service,
charity,
kindness
and
it's
a
great
reminder
that
the
legislature
building
is
everyone's
building,
not
just
not
just
old
guys,
like
the
minister
and
I,
but
for
everyone.
So
thank
you
so
much
for
being
here
with
us
today,
I'd
now
like
to
invite
our
first
Community
guest
to
the
podium
to
provide
remarks.
Mr
Mohammed,
akbal,
watu.
J
Its
partner
and
members
I
wish
you
all
the
greetings
of
Eid
Eid,
Mubarak
Mr
Speaker
I
want
to
thank
you
and
the
house
for
maintaining
and
supporting
this
over
two
decades
long
to
region
of
celebrating
the
Annual
Festival
of
under
your
leadership.
Initially,
it
started
in
1999
I
believe
this
long-standing
tradition
is
unique
to
the
Alberta
legislature
within
Canada,
also
known
as
the
Festival
of
sacrifice
is
one
of
the
most
significant
religious
holidays
celebrated
by
Muslim
around
the
world.
J
It
commemorates
the
story
of
prophet
Ibrahim
and
his
willingness
to
sacrifice
his
son
as
an
act
of
obedience
to
God
the
most
significant
aspect
of
the
act
of
animal
sacrifice,
known
as
qurbani
and
the
distribution
of
its
me
to
relative
friends
and
the
less
fortunate
Among
Us.
It
highlights
the
spirit
of
generosity,
community
service
and
sharing
during
either.
It
also
reminds
us
of
the
importance
of
helping
others
and
caring
for
the
less
fortunate
emphasizing
the
values
of
compassion
and
charity.
Mr
Speaker
the
Muslim
population
in
Alberta,
is
growing.
J
Now
over
202
000
Muslims
called
about
a
home.
They
are
making
countless
contribution
to
the
Alberta
Society
from
public
service
to
education.
To
health
care
to
business,
however,
however,
with
the
population,
growth
also
comes
some
challenges
that
we
face
today:
data
of
Academy
racism
and
islamophobia,
Mr
Speaker
events
like
this
go
a
long
way
in
creating
confidence
and
the
sense
of
belonging
among
the
community.
J
Let
us
knew
our
commitment
to
the
value
that
bind
us
together,
compassion,
empathy
and
mutual
respect
and
create
a
better
world
for
everyone
in
closing,
I
wish
to
acknowledge
the
president
of
the
first
Muslim
lieutenant
governor
of
Alberta,
her
honor,
the
honors
and
and
thank
our
honor
for
joining
us
this
afternoon.
Also
I
wish
to
thank
the
speaker's
office
staff
kathija
and
her
colleagues
from
various
departments
for
all
the
support
they
have
provided.
J
Yeah
I
also
want
to
acknowledge
our
partner
at
nccm
Sai
number
for
working
tirelessly
in
sending
out
all
the
email,
invitations
and
keeping
track
of
our
RSVPs,
the
smiley
Council
for
Edmonton
president
Zara
samani
for
providing
support
and
resources
as
needed
above
all
I.
Thank
you
all
our
guests
and
the
community
leaders
for
join
us
joining
us
today.
Thank
you.
So
much,
please
enjoy
the
rest
of
the
afternoon.
K
Your
honor
The
Honorable,
Salman,
khani,
honorable
speaker,
Minister,
Yasin,
Emily,
government
leaders,
chairman
watu
and
fellow
leaders
of
Faith
communities,
and
a
warm
and
heartfelt
Eid
Mubarak
I'd
like
to
start
by
expressing
our
deep
gratitude
to
you,
Mr
Speaker,
as
well
as
to
the
legislative
assembly
of
Alberta,
and
to
all
government
leaders
present
today
for
hosting
this
celebration.
Thank
you
occasions
like
this
signify.
K
It
reminds
us
of
our
responsibility
as
Muslims
to
live
a
life
in
the
service
of
others.
Indeed,
the
prophet
Muhammad
may
peace
be
upon
him
was
once
asked
the
question
which
Islam
is
best
in
response.
He
said
to
feed
the
hungry
and
to
greet
with
peace
Those,
whom
you
know
and
Those
whom
you
do
not
know
as
albertans.
The
lessons
we
derive
from
occasions
like
are
especially
resonant
in
our
daily
lives.
K
An
example
of
this
generous
Spirit
most
recently
came
to
life
during
this
year's
wildfires.
Amidst
the
stresses
of
the
fires,
albertans
from
all
walks
of
life
stood
up,
they
stood
up
to
help
fight
the
fires.
They
stood
up
to
facilitate
evacuations
and
now
they
are
supporting
rebuilding,
and
this
is
just
one
example
of
the
many
acts
of
kindness
and
generosity
that
we
see
every
day.
K
K
Though
the
sacrifice
we
commemorate
on
Eid
May
date
back
to
the
Old
Testament,
the
lessons
remain
relevant
for
us
today
and
I.
Ask
that
we
join
hands
in
reflection
to
consider
how
we,
as
Faith
leaders,
can
continue
to
come
together
to
serve
our
province
in
the
years
to
come,
my
brothers
and
sisters.
This
is
an
exciting
period
for
Alberta.
We
have
a
young
and
growing
population,
a
rapidly
evolving
economy
and
a
deep
sense
of
pride
in
our
community.
K
B
L
L
L
L
L
L
L
L
M
I
want
to
first
start
off
by
thanking
the
honorable
samalakani
and
the
speaker's
office,
as
well
as
speak,
the
honor
Nathan
Cooper
and
both
parties
for
working
with
us
to
convene
this
important
day.
This
kind
of
collaboration
of
coming
together
and
celebrating
our
shared
vision
for
the
future
is
precisely
what
we
need
now
more
than
ever
in
this
province.
M
B
People
from
all
across
our
communities
from
different
Faith
backgrounds,
a
Ugandan
Refugee
expelled
from
her
own
country
to
later
in
life,
become
the
highest
of
all
honors.
The
lieutenant
governor
members
of
the
left
of
the
political
spectrum
and
members
of
the
right
of
the
political
Spectrum
community
members
have
all
come
together
to
share
not
the
things
that
divide
us,
but
the
things
that
unite
us.
B
Now
we
of
course,
have
a
lot
of
work
to
do,
but
that
work
can't
be
done
without
each
other,
and
so
I
challenge
you
in
the
days
and
weeks
and
years
to
come
when
those
challenging
things
come
at
us.
As
Saeed
has
mentioned
that
we
recollect
to
today
that
today
we
came
together
to
celebrate
the
things
that
unite
us.
B
The
Festival
of
sacrifice
of
Hope
of
community,
of
giving
thank
you
all
for
being
here.
It
is
my
great
honor
and
pleasure
to
welcome
you
here
to
the
legislature
on
behalf
of
all
members
of
the
assembly.
Thank
you
for
so
so
very
much
for
everything
that
you
do
to
help
make
our
Province
the
best
place
to
live,
to
work,
to
raise
a
family
to
celebrate
our
freedoms
together
before
you
leave
today.
I
hope
that
you'll
join
us
for
some
tea
and
coffee,
some
baklava
provided
by
the
Muslim
Community.
