B
Thank
you
so
much
sophia.
What
a
wonderful
job
there's
something
very
special
about
the
singing
of
our
national
anthem
here
in
the
seat
of
our
democracy.
In
the
province
of
alberta,
honorable
mohammed
yasim,
minister
of
the
legislative
assembly
of
alberta,
remember
loyola,
mr
huatu,
sheikh
pathon
miss
sumani
mlas.
I
see
the
honorable
member
mickey
amory
has
joined
us.
My
apologies,
if
I
have
missed
others.
B
Thank
you
all
so
much
for
being
here
today.
It
is
such
a
great
honor
of
mine,
as
the
speaker
of
the
legislative
assembly
of
alberta,
to
welcome
people
here
to
our
assembly
to
bring
people
together
to
share
in
our
common
interests
and
common
goals
and
look
towards
a
future
that
is
better
for
all
albertans.
B
On
march
30th
1999,
the
legislative
assembly
of
alberta
conducted
its
first
eid
alata
event
here
in
the
legislative
rotunda,
and
I'm
just
so
pleased
that
so
many
of
you
have
joined
us
today.
As
we
continue
to
celebrate
this
important
tradition
that
began
23
years
ago,
eid
alata
the
fest,
the
feast
of
sacrifice.
B
It
is
about
the
sacred
bond
that
unites
families,
friends,
communities
and
muslims
across
the
province
as
they
prepare
to
mark
its
conclusion
here.
In
the
days
ahead,
we
are
reminded
of
the
core
lessons
of
edolada
sacrifice,
giving
there
are
two
values
that
are
universally
important
since
muslim
settlers
arrived
in
canada
in
1871,
the
community
became
synonymous
with
generosity.
B
B
She
is
the
current
lieutenant
governor
of
alberta
and
is
a
proud
ishmaeli
muslim
who
has
lived
a
life
of
service
and
leadership.
She's
driven
numerous
community
initiatives
dedicated
to
uplifting
and
championing
those
who
face
barriers
in
life.
She
herself
overcame
adversity
and
escaped
danger
before
making
a
new
life
in
canada.
B
Her
honors
passion
for
helping
others
led
her
to
become
a
mentor
for
youth
volunteers
and
countless
other
charitable
organizations
and
set
up
life-saving
health
services
overseas.
Her
honor
has
worked
tirelessly
in
the
service
of
her
community.
She
has
lived
a
life
that
inspires
others
to
be
better
their
own.
B
D
E
These
verses
allow
us
to
understand
the
importance
of
fully
believing
in
allah's
power,
wisdom
and
strength.
These
beliefs
enable
us
to
maintain
good
morals
to
become
better
human
beings,
which
is
shown
in
the
translation
in
this
surah.
It
is
said
people
who
say
allah
is
our
lord
and
our
steadfast
are
visited
and
motivated
by
the
angels.
E
E
Every
wish
of
yours
will
be
fulfilled.
This
is
a
warm
hospitality
from
the
forgiver,
the
caring
lord,
whose
speech
can
be
better
than
the
one
who
calls
to
allah
and
acts
righteously
and
states
openly.
I
am
muslim,
good
and
evil
aren't
the
same,
respond
to
evil
with
goodness,
and
if
there
was
any
enmity
between
you
and
the
other,
it
will
be
gone.
You
will
become
dearest
friends.
E
B
F
G
You
gave
us
parody
of
life.
You
took
away
the
sleepless
nights,
you
gave
us
hope
and
healed
our
souls
and
took
us
all
towards
new
heights.
In
your
footsteps.
We
wanna
go.
You
are
our
only
saving
grace.
You
are
the
closest
to
allah
in
your
heart.
In
your
heart.
We
all
wanna
place
so
give
us
all
a
helping
hand,
because
you
are
the
greatest
man.
You
are
muhammad
sallallahu.
G
You
are
the
brightness
of
the
day,
the
peace
and
harmony
of
night.
You
shine
out
like
a
glowing
star,
the
one
that
showers
the
world
with
light,
you
showed
us
it
is
essential
to
be
truthful
and
to
be
fair,
you
showed
us
how
to
live
our
lives.
You
showed
us
how
to
love
and
care
a
man
like
you
will
never
find
you
all
in
our
hearts.
You
own
our
minds.
You
are
muhammad.

I
I
wish
to
acknowledge
zara
sumani,
president
of
the
ismaili
council
for
edmonton
mohammed
iqbal
watto,
a
chair
of
the
admin
council
of
muslim
communities,
sheikh
sadek
patan
outreach
imam
of
the
islamic
relief,
canada,
member
rod,
lohela
and
member
micki
distinguished
guests.
Ladies
and
gentlemen,
assalamu
alaikum
and
edinburgh
to
all
of
you.

I
B
J
You
know,
as
I
walked
into
this
beautiful
home
today,
I
was
greeted
by
my
beloved
imam
safiyala,
and
he
said
we
are
here
in
your
first
home
and
not
to
disagree
with
such
an
honorable
scholar
as
imam
safiyala
but
number
one.
This
is
the
home
of
all
of
albertans,
including
all
of
you
and
my
first
home
will
always
be
in
the
community
in
the
masjids
and
the
masalas
of
our
beloved
community.
J
I
want
to
thank
speaker
cooper,
our
dignitaries,
but
all
of
you
here
today
and
I
want
to
thank
you
for
the
opportunity
to
bring
greetings
on
behalf
of
the
alberta
new
democratic
caucus.
As
we
commemorate
the
occasion
as
with
all
holy
days
observed
in
the
muslim
faith,
the
feast
of
sacrifices
is
important
for
families
and
friends
to
gather,
share
in
food
and
pray
together.
J
This
time
helps
refocus
responsibilities
to
our
own
families,
to
our
faith
and
to
the
most
vulnerable
people.
In
our
society,
whether
you
believe
in
the
old
testament
or
the
koran,
putting
the
needs
of
others
before
oneself
is
the
underlying
spirit
that
you
like,
unites
these
religions,
and
we
all
face
challenges
that
test
our
resolve
and
convictions.
J
Our
diverse
cultural
character
is
what
makes
alberta
a
wonderful
place
to
live
work
and
raise
families.
It
is
one
of
our
greatest
assets
and
one
of
the
things
that
make
me
so
proud
to
be
an
albertan
before
we
part
ways
today.
Let
us
take
time
to
reflect
on
the
spirit
and
the
intention
of
the
feast
of
sacrifice
for
those
able
to
gather
this
year.
J
The
feast
of
idaho.
The
sacrifice
is
also
important
for
each
of
us
as
muslims,
so
that
we
can
strengthen
our
determine
and
our
resolve
to
make
sure
that
we
are
there
for
others
that
we
are
good
leaders
in
our
community
and
that
we're
always
teaching
by
example.
I
want
to
thank
you
all
for
being
here
today.
K
Honorable
speaker,
nathan,
cooper
honorable
ministers,
mla's
respected
guests,
ladies
and
gentlemen
good
afternoon
and
ed
mubarak.
It
is
my
distinct
honor
to
bring
to
you
all.
Eid
greetings
on
behalf
of
the
edmonton
council
of
muslim
communities,
its
members
and
partners.
The
ecmc
is
an
umbrella
organization
representing
nine
separate
organizations
across
the
city.
K
Its
mission
is
to
protect
and
promote
the
interest
of
muslim
community
in
the
area
of
public
policy,
peace
and
security,
education
and
interfaith
relations,
among
the
many
accomplishments
of
ecmc
is
the
establishment
of
the
first
endowed
chair
of
islamic
studies
at
the
university
of
alberta.
Mr
speaker,
it
is
a
source
of
both
pride
and
pleasure
for
all
the
muslims
across
across
the
province
to
note
that
your
office
has
continued
to
support
the
celebration
of
yudu
ladha
at
the
legislature
since
1999..
K
K
There
are
two
major
holidays
in
the
islamic
calendar
which
are
celebrated
by
the
muslims
across
the
globe.
Both
holidays
are
meant
to
evoke
in
their
own
unique
ways:
the
noble
tradition
of
not
only
celebration
and
festivities
with
family
and
friends,
but
also
a
spirit
of
compassion
and
caring
for
the
less
fortunate
among
us,
either.
Sister,
the
first
of
the
two
holidays
mars,
the
end
of
ramadan
this
year.
In
the
spirit
of
caring
and
giving
ecmc,
ran
a
fundraising
campaign
for
the
edmonton
food
bank.
K
During
the
month
of
ramadan
and
by
the
grace
of
god,
we
were
able
to
raise
more
than
forty
thousand
dollars
either
the
leader
of
the
two
holidays
commemorates
the
prophet
ibrahim,
the
willingness
to
sacrifice
his
son
in
total
submission
to
the
will
of
god.
This
islamic
festival
is
a
reminder
of
the
sheer
roots
of
the
great
abrahamic
religions
and
that
the
light
of
guidance
is
coming
from
the
same
source.
K
K
This
tradition
highlights
the
importance
of
taking
care
of
your
family,
your
neighbors
and
the
less
fortunate
in
order
to
create
a
compassionate
and
caring
society.
In
closing,
I
wish
to
thank
kathia
and
her
colleagues
from
the
infrastructure,
security
and
communications
department
for
all
the
support
they
have
provided.
K
I
also
wish
to
thank
and
acknowledge
our
partners,
national
council
of
canadian
muslim,
say
dumbo
for
working
tirelessly
to
in
sending
the
invitations
and
keeping
track
of
rsvp's
the
israeli
council
for
edmonton
president
zara
samani
for
providing
support
and
resources
needed,
and
also
the
muslim
council
of
calgary
chairman
mohammad
shiranik,
for
coming
all
the
way
from
calgary.
Thank
you.
Thank
you
all.
The
members
of
community
and
guests
for
taking
part
in
this
event.
Thank
you,
anita
mubarak,.
B
L
L
He
is
allah.
This
the
allah
mentioned
in
the
old
testament,
the
allah
mentioned
in
the
talmud
and
the
torah.
He
is
allah
mentioned
in
the
holy
books
from
generation
to
generation.
He
is
allah.
We
also
want
to
acknowledge.
We
are
on
treaty
six
land
and
that
there
were
sacrifices
made
before
the
arrival
of
anyone
here,
and
we
thank
and
we
pray
that
allah
continues
to
bless
the
indigenous
communities
of
our
land.
L
You
see
we're
smiling,
there's
nothing
angry
about
allah.
We
are
smiling
and
rejoicing
because
we
come
with
the
message
of
love.
The
message
that
I
have
for
you
is
simply
three
because
it
we
have
a
beautiful
speaker
and
the
lovely
dignitaries
and
assembly
members
who
have
spoken
before
me,
but
I
will
say
just
three
reminders
and
lessons
that
we
can
share
about
the
story,
the
event
of
abraham
ibrahim
with
his
son
ismail.
L
L
L
The
second
lesson
that
we
are
here
to
share
with
our
our
beautiful
community
members
of
this
beautiful
legislative
assembly
and
all
of
our
honored
guests,
is
that
faith
in
action
means
you
have
to
have
qurban
you
have
to
sacrifice.
You
got
to
sacrifice
what
is
most
dear
to
you
to
make
a
mark
in
society.
L
L
We
have
to
be
willing
not
simply
through
claiming
piety
and
closeness
to
god,
by
our
claims
and
mirror
claims,
but
god
rather
says.
If
you
love
me,
you
surrender
to
me
yet
trust
me:
are
you
willing
to
give
closeness
and
piety
in
islam
is
first
and
foremost
you
got
to
give
islam
is
here
in
canada
as
a
positive
contributor,
each
and
every
muslim
has
been
here,
and
they
will
continue
to
be
positive
contributors
because
we
follow
the
traditions
of
abraham.
L
So
this
is
our
second
principle
of
qurban
or
odahiya
sacrifice
where
I,
when
I
sacrifice,
beat-
and
I
sacrifice
the
meat
that
we
distribute,
how
beautiful
the
tradition
is
that
for
four
days
allah
says
you
celebrate
with
your
family,
there's
nothing
wrong
with
it
celebrate
you
want
to
celebrate
with
your
extended
family,
celebrate,
but
don't
forget
your
neighbors
and
don't
forget
the
destitute.
They
have
right
on
your
happiness,
so
you
are
connected.
L
L
L
That
is
our
legacy.
That's
that
third
reminder
that,
when
we
are
here,
we
are
guided
by
this.
The
the
decisions
of
today
that
we
make
now
can
be
the
the
foundations
of
goodness
and
that's
what
we
are
here.
This
legitimate
legislative
assembly
was
built
on
these
principles
of
serving
the
rest
of
the
of
our
communities.
L
Islam
further
reinforces
and
echoes
that,
and
I
remind
each
and
every
one
of
you.
This
is
in
the
face
of
those
who
may
be
swayed
upon
the
greed
and
self-interest
of
some
of
those
who
wish
to
divide
us
versus
them
for
those
who
want
to
cause
discord
for
those
who
want
to
put
the
agenda
of
big
businesses
and
only
the
economic
interests
before
everything
at
the
cost
of
everything.
L
M
L
That
allah,
this
is
not
in
need
of
the
sacrifices
of
of
the
animal
or
it's
it's
blood,
but
rather
allah.
It's
not
that
that
reaches
him.
It
is
rather
your
piety
your
god
consciousness
and
being
fully
aware,
we
can
be
the
best
version
of
ourselves
when
we
know
that
we're
answerable
and
accountable,
even
when
the
doors
are
closed,
that
is
piety
and
indeed
the
the
glad
tidings
for
those
who
wish
to
do
good
jazakallah
to
each
and
every
one.
B
N
N
N
N
If
one
member
is
inflicted
with
pain,
other
members
uneasy
will
remain.
If
you
have
no
sympathy
for
human
pain,
the
name
of
human,
you
cannot
retain
my
brothers
and
sisters
as
we
celebrate
eid.
Let
us
express
our
humble
gratitude
for
the
blessings
which
have
been
graced
in
our
lives
and
let
us
pray
for
global
peace
and
prosperity.
B
Members
of
the
community,
as
we
close
today,
I
would
like
to
leave
you
with
two
thoughts
that
I
have
been
sitting
with
this
afternoon.
As
the
speaker
of
the
legislative
assembly
of
alberta.
I
have
the
great
honor
and
pleasure
of
hosting
a
number
of
events,
just
like
this
for
a
wide
variety
of
faith
communities,
and
today
I
am
reminded
of
two
things:
one,
that
there
is
much
more
that
unites
us
than
divides
us
and
to
each
as
we
go
today.
B
I
hope
that
we
will
consider
that,
as
we
are
interacting
with
our
fellow
albertans
and
members
of
the
faith
community
or
members
of
the
public,
that
together,
we
must
stand
against
those
who
seek
to
divide
us
to
propagate
hate
and
anger
towards
each
other,
but
in
faith
we
share
so
much
and
we
share.
We
have
so
much
in
common,
and
I
encourage
each
and
every
one
of
us
to
be
reminded
of
that
and
thankful
each
in
our
own
way
about
what
we
share.
B
The
second
is
around
service
and
sacrifice.
The
fact
that
you're
here
today
is
evidence
that
you
care
about
your
faith
community,
you
care
about
your
family.
You
care
about
your
community
and,
by
extension,
you
care
about
our
province
and
so
on
behalf
of
members
of
the
legislative
assembly
of
alberta.
I
want
to
say
thank
you
for
that
care,
but
I
also
call
upon
each
and
every
one
of
us
to
continue
to
remain
steadfast
in
our
service
to
each
other
today
and
the
service.
B
This
brings
us
to
the
end
of
our
program
today
before
you
leave.
I
hope
that
you
will
stay
and
celebrate
with
old
friends
make
some
new
friends.
There
is
a
coffee
and
tea
that
will
be
served
to
my
left
that
has
been
so
graciously
provided
by
the
community.
There
are
a
number
of
tables
just
beyond
the
arch
there.
