Good
evening
graduates,
faculty,
family
and
friends,
and
welcome
to
the
2023
commencement
ceremony
for
Chugiak
high
school,
we
acknowledge
that
we
gather
here
today
on
the
traditional
lands
of
the
denina
people
of
upper
Cook
Inlet
for
thousands
of
years.
The
denina
people
have
been
and
continue
to
be,
the
steward
of
this
land
ASD
is
committed
to
diversity
and
inclusion,
and
it
is
with
honor
and
respect
that
we
recognize
all
indigenous
people
who
live
and
learn
in
our
community.
B
A
D
Once
again,
let
me
just
say
what
an
absolute
pleasure
it
is
to
be
standing
here
today
to
celebrate
the
accomplishments
of
the
Chugiak
high
school
graduating
class
of
2023.
as
principal
of
this
esteemed
institution.
I
want
to
start
by
congratulating
each
and
every
one
of
our
graduates.
You've
worked
hard
overcome
challenges
and
have
achieved
a
significant
milestone
in
your
lives.
D
D
Today,
as
we
celebrate
our
graduates,
achievements,
I'm
reminded
of
a
quote
by
Nelson
Mandela
that
education
is
the
most
powerful
weapon
which
you
can
use
to
change
the
world.
The
knowledge,
skills
and
experiences
gained
at
Chugiak
will
be
the
foundation
for
the
Bright
Futures
that
lie
ahead
of
you.
However.
I
also
want
to
remind
our
graduates
that,
with
great
talent,
power
comes
great
responsibility.
You
have
the
power
to
make
a
positive
impact
on
the
world,
and
it's
your
responsibility
to
use
that
power
for
good.
D
As
you
embark
on
your
next
Journey,
whether
it
be
College,
a
trade
or
a
career,
always
remember
that
you
get
to
choose
your
future,
use
your
education
to
make
the
world
a
better
place
for
yourself
and
those
around
you.
Lastly,
I
want
to
wish
our
graduates
the
very
best
for
the
future.
Endeavors
always
remember
the
hard
work,
dedication
and
perseverance
that
brought
you
to
this
point
and
use
that
as
a
source
of
inspiration
and
motivation,
congratulations,
class
of
2023.
E
Thank
you
principal
hatswell.
Before
we
begin,
I
would
like
to
turn
our
Focus
to
our
graduating
seniors.
Congratulations
to
all
of
you!
Although
you
may
have
received
encouragement
from
family
friends,
teachers
and
staff,
you
made
it
through
with
your
own
dedication,
time,
sweat,
tears
and
more
do
not
ever
forget
to
be
proud
of
what
you've
accomplished
today.
E
F
F
It
is
my
hope
that
you
all
feel
the
overwhelming
sense
of
Pride
for
your
graduate
that
each
and
every
single
one
of
them
individually
deserves
to
my
fellow
class
of
2023
graduates.
Congratulations,
we've
done
it
this
to
it
that
we
spent
our
whole
lives
wishing
and
waiting
for
that
we've
dedicated
so
many
hours
of
our
time.
Working
towards
this.
It
is
growing
up.
F
F
When
you
walk
across
this
stage,
you
get
to
know
that
today,
you're
accomplishing
the
goals
and
dreams
of
another.
You
the
you
who
cried
on
the
first
day
of
school,
outraged
over
the
end
of
summer
in
the
beginning
of
Learning,
the
you
who
sat
through
countless
seemingly
useless
assemblies
and
only
wish
to
be
finished,
the
you
who
was
first
learning
long
division
or
trigonometry,
who
swore
they'd
never
use
an
ounce
of
the
Endless
formulas
or
sequences.
F
This
day
is
for
all
the
people
who
have
at
one
point
been
you
today
is
for
the
you
who
didn't
think
they
could
do
it
today
is
proof
that
you
can
and
that
you
did
When
We
Were
Young.
All
we
wanted
to
be
was
older.
We
wanted
to
drive,
we
wanted
sweet
16s,
we
wanted
boyfriends
and
girlfriends,
but
more
than
any
of
that,
we
wanted
freedom.
F
F
F
It
is
horrifying,
looking
ear
into
the
future
and
not
knowing
what
it
will
entail,
but
it
is
liberating
knowing
that
we
have
the
power
to
design
it
in
an
hour
we
will
have
graduated
and
we
will
possess.
All
of
these
definitions
of
growing
up
graduation
is
defined
by
Oxford
languages
as
the
receiving
or
conferring
of
an
academic
degree
or
diploma.
However,
this
does
not
fully
encapture
with
the
acts
and
events
of
graduating
are.
F
Yes.
Today
is
a
day
to
celebrate,
to
stay
out
until
dawn
and
to
be
nothing
but
excited,
but
one
day
today,
too
will
be
bittersweet.
May
15th
will
always
be
the
day.
You
officially
finished
high
school,
but
it
will
also
be
the
day
that
truly
marks
the
end
of
your
childhood.
It
is
hopeful
and
exciting.
F
Today
you
are
given
the
opportunity
to
choose
for
yourself
exactly
what
to
make
of
your
life.
You
get
to
make
all
the
important
decisions
you
get
to
decide
where
to
go
for
dinner
when
to
clean
your
room,
which
laundry
detergent
to
use.
You
are
responsible
for
how
you
treat
others
for
the
people
you
associate
with,
and
the
Hobbies
you
elect
to
pursue
you
get
to
choose
what
you
want
your
life
to
look
like
it
would
impact
you
want
to
leave
today.
F
One
day
today
will
be
the
last
time
we
were
all
together,
but
right
now
in
this
moment,
as
we
all
cross,
the
bridge
to
the
next
phase
of
this
journey
today
is
simply
the
day
we
all
accomplish.
Something
truly
great
graduation
is
often
looked
at,
as
an
in
point
is
to
determine
to
be
a
goal
a
destination,
but
graduation
is
merely
a
checkpoint.
It
is
a
place.
You
can
go
back
to
to
remember
how
much
you
have
been
able
to
succeed
in.
F
F
You
have
proved
in
this
moment
and
in
all
the
moments
that
led
to
this
one,
that
you
are
a
capable
person,
the
last
13
years
were
not
limp
and
easy.
You
worked
hard
to
be
here,
and
that
was
not
all
for
nothing.
Today
is
acknowledgment
of
that
fact.
We
are
not
given
the
Privileges
and
celebrations
of
being
graduates,
because
it
is
a
necessity.
They
are
here
because
we
work
diligently
to
earn
the
honors
and
responsibilities
given
to
us
when
we
cross
this
stage.
F
F
F
F
F
This
is
what
graduating
is.
Yes,
it's
about
the
academics,
it's
about
the
education,
it's
about
the
connections
and
relationships
you
forged,
but
it
is
also
about
the
capability
of
the
individual.
So
no,
not
the
matter.
What
people
will
tell
you
in
the
future.
There
are
people
that
know
what
you
are
capable
of
accomplishing,
because
here
today
we
witnessed
it.
E
G
Hello:
everyone,
my
name,
is
Skyler
Alexander
I'm,
true,
yes,
representative
of
the
class
of
2023..
The
first
thing
I
want
to
do
is
thank
all
the
friends
and
family
who
came
to
see
us
today.
You
all
have
been
the
biggest
supporter
of
our
high
school
Journeys,
and
so
my
fellow
students,
congratulations.
G
Now
I
think
it's
a
bit
of
an
understatement
to
say
that
our
high
school
experience
was
unique
overall
High
School
is
something
that
tends
to
get
a
bad
rep,
and
it
would
be
easy
for
me
to
write
ours
off
as
the
same.
What
kova
did
will
forever
be
ingrained
in
our
memories.
The
experience
that
that
we
were
not
able
to
have
is
something
that
we
will
all
regret
in
the
lives
that
it
affected
are
countless.
G
Those
glancing
moments
that
we
have
all
accumulated
throughout
High
School.
Those
are
the
moments
that
have
shaped
us.
Those
are
the
things
that
will
carry
us
through
our
future
as
Robert
Frost
says,
live
life
like
it's.
The
Last
Breath
You
Take
for
that
breath
is
the
whole
essence
of
living.
The
little
things
in
life
are
what
connects
us
to
the
big
things
that
we
live
for.
G

C
Superintendent
Bryant
principal
hatwell,
hatswell
members
of
the
Chugiak
faculty
families,
friends
and
especially
the
graduating
class
of
2023..
It
is
an
honor
for
me
to
be
in
this
situation
today.
As
a
representative
of
the
faculty
at
Chugiak,
high
I
feel
a
responsibility
to
deliver
a
message
that
is
Meaningful
but,
as
my
wife,
Susie
directed
me
short
as
I
stand
in
front
of
you,
I
realize
that
I
don't
have
a
cool
beard
like
Mr
Wortman
I,
don't
have
a
sweet
hair
game
like
Mr
yarger
I,
don't
have
the
biceps
of
Coach
Wilde
and
I.
C
This
graduation
marks
the
end
of
an
era
for
this
background
family.
Since
2010
there
has
been
at
least
one
spacman
child
attending
Chugiak
high
school.
That
ends
today,
as
our
youngest
child
Spencer
graduates,
with
the
class
to
get
class
of
2023.
I,
told
Spence.
That
I
wouldn't
talk
much
about
him
today,
but
we
are
certainly
proud
of
the
excellent
young
man.
He
has
become.
C
C
C
C
C
C
Once
I
move
into
my
own
place,
things
will
be
easier,
I,
remember,
thinking
those
same
thoughts
when
I
was
younger.
The
truth
is
it
doesn't
really
get
easier.
Life
is
hard.
The
challenges
will
change,
but
it
is
still
hard
as
you
graduates
move
on
in
life,
you
will
have
challenges.
You
probably
have
never
even
thought
of
so
what
needs
to
happen?
C
The
key
is,
is
being
able
to
handle
hard
things
better.
Sometimes
we
look
at
others
and
say
they
have
it
easy.
When
is
it
going
to
be
easy?
For
me,
what
we
need
to
realize
is
that
those
who
make
it
look
easy
are
handling
hard
things.
Better.
Coach
Lawson
observed
that
if
you
have
a
meaningful
pursuit
in
life,
it
will
never
be
easy.
C
C
C
Zig
Ziglar,
a
prominent
writer
and
speaker
said
gratitude
is
the
healthiest
of
healthiest
of
all
human
emotions.
The
more
you
Express
gratitude
for
what
you
have
the
more
likely
you
will
have
even
more
to
be
grateful,
for
it
is
not
always
easy
to
feel
gratitude,
but
when
life
is
hectic
or
when
things
may
not
be
going
our
way,
we
can
still
choose
to
have
gratitude.
C
It
helps
our
Outlook
in
life
and
lets
us
focus
on
the
good.
Instead
of
the
bad
there's
a
story
of
a
man
who
came
to
a
restaurant
and
after
he
was
finished
with
his
meal,
the
waiter
asked
if
he
enjoyed
it,
the
man
said
the
meal
is
great,
but
I
could
have
used
more
bread
when
the
man
visited
the
restaurant.
A
second
time
the
waiter
doubled
the
amount
of
bread,
but
his
response
was
still.
It
was
great,
but
I
could
have
used
more
bread
a
third
time.
This
happened
and
the
response
was
the
same.
C
C
C
Each
of
us
is
a
result
of
many
small
choices
that
we
make
in
life
every
day.
Small
experiences
that
we
choose
to
participate
in
each
day
can
help
help
build
us
up
or
bring
us
down
I'm,
not
talking
about
solving
world
hunger
one
day
and
discovering
the
process
of
cold
fusion
the
next,
although
that
would
be
really
cool,
adding
new
knowledge
like
reading
or
listening
to
podcasts
or
practicing
a
skill
that
could
help
us
in
our
jobs
or
career.
C
Our
good
example
of
things
you
can
do
regularly
to
build
and
improve
yourself
I
believe
that
these
choices
are
cumulative.
If
we
consistently
choose
experiences
that
are
positive,
then
the
cumulative
effect
on
our
life
will
be
positive.
If
we
choose
experiences
that
are
negative
or
do
nothing
to
build
or
improve
our
ourselves,
we
will
not
improve
or
may
decrease
our
own
capabilities.
C
C
We
often
celebrate
acts
of
heroism
or
a
great
accomplish
a
great
accomplishment
in
athletic
competition.
Those
results
are
always
the
hard
work
and
consists
or
an
effort
of
those
involved.
Our
boys
hockey
team
went
undefeated
this
year,
not
only
because
they
had
a
great
coach
which
they
did
and
talented
players
which
they
did,
but
also
because
they
consistently
worked
to
be
excellent.
C
Our
girls,
basketball
team
has
had
a
reputation
for
hitting
last
second
shots,
sometimes
from
a
long
ways
away.
I
know
the
seniors
on
that
team.
Octavius,
Shannon,
Italia,
Skyler,
McKenzie
and
Sage
have
practiced
the
skills
needed
to
be
successful
for
hundreds,
if
not
thousands,
of
hours
and
years
of
playing
with
each
other.
C
Those
investments
in
time
and
preparation
make
it
possible
for
an
amazing
last
second
shot
in
the
last
12
months
since
graduation
last
year
we
have
seen
championships
and
winning
performances
in
girls
track,
Cross,
Country,
Boys
Hockey,
our
culinary
program,
choir
band
and
Orchestra
programs,
academic
competitions,
Esports
and
many
more.
Each
of
these
accomplishments
have
come
because
those
involved
built
and
improved
every
day,
Grace
Bonnie,
said
success,
occurs
when
preparation
meets
opportunity.
This
quote
is
almost
universally
true.
I,
encourage
you
to
prepare
for
success
by
building
and
improving
yourself
daily
third
reach
out
and
serve
others.
C
C
C
C
C
This
disease
caused
Caleb
to
lose
his
sight
and
lose
much
of
his
coordination
index
to
dexterity.
He
has
a
hard
time
speaking,
but
he
is
a
good
listener.
He
would
come
to
our
lessons
and
could
answer
many
questions
about
what
we
discussed
in
class.
There
was
no
teacher's
aid
to
accompany
Caleb,
so
I
asked
one
of
the
Freshman
girls
in
the
class
to
keep
an
eye
out
for
him
and
make
sure
he
was
well
taken
care
of
in
class.
This
former
freshman
is
among
our
graduates.
Today.
C
C
The
service
Hayden
provided
to
Caleb
made
a
huge
difference
in
his
life
and
I
know
that
this
service
has
helped
make
Kaden
the
person
she
is
today.
Hayden
has
been
an
inspiration
to
me
and
helps
me
remember
to
treat
others
with
kindness,
honor
and
dignity
in
a
closer
related
activity.
I
have
been
involved
with
Partners
Club
over
the
years,
and
this
year
I
have
admired
the
efforts
of
Olivia,
Campbell,
Addie,
Anna,
Kaylee,
Natasha,
Coya
and
Elliot.
C
C
So
remember:
class
of
2023
life
is
hard.
I
think
I
speak
for
the
staff
at
chuyakai
when
I
say
that
we
love
you,
we
believe
in
you
and
you've
got
this.
You
can
do
hard
things
better
by
living
a
life
full
of
gratitude,
self-improvement
and
service
to
others.
You
will
find
that
although
hard
life
is
amazing,
it
is
my
hope
that
today
is
the
first
day
of
your
amazing
hard
life.
Thank
you.
E
D
E
E
I
would
also
like
to
request
that
you
keep
your
applause
brief,
so
that
we
can
hear
the
names
of
each
individual
graduate
once
graduates
across
the
stage
they
will
return
promptly
to
their
seats.
Family
and
friends
will
have
a
chance
to
present

and
Gifts.
Once
the
ceremony
has
concluded
with
the
Turning
of
the
tassels
and
the
throwing

moment
marks
not
only
the
end
of
our
high
school
career
but
the
beginning
of
a
whole
new
chapter
of
Our
Lives.
Undoubtedly,
we
must
thank
our
families,
teachers
and
friends
whose
unconditional
support
throughout
the
years
has
led
us
to
this
Grand
moment
of
accomplishment
and
wonder
without
them.
It
would
be
impossible
for
us
to
be
standing
here
today,
ready
or
mostly
ready
to
take
on
the
rest
of
our
lives.
