Excited
to
start
tomorrow,
but
today
we're
here
to
talk
about
urban
policy
5040
and
this
committee
welcoming
our
some
of
the
parents,
guardian
representatives,
thank
you
for
taking
the
time
to
be
here
today
on
zoom,
it's
my
understanding
that
three
others
will
hopefully
join
us
either
on
zoom
or
in
person.
C
So
we'll
we'll
welcome
them
when
they
get
here,
but
right
here,
I'm
kelly
lessons
and
on
the
board,
and
maybe
we
can
go
around
the
room
just
very
quickly
to
introduce
ourselves
for
our
our
parents,
guardian
guests
or
participants.
C
Please
also
share
where
your
student
is
is
located
and
maybe
just
a
little
bit
about
why
you're
willing
to
put
in
the
time
to
help
craft
a
new
policy.
You
know
why
does
this
matter
to
you.

D
Hello,
I'm
lauren
kelsey
and
I'm
with
the
state
of
alaska's
public
health,
physical
activity
and
nutrition
program.
Don't
work
for
the
district,
but
excited
to
be
here.
I've
got
kids
at
romig
and
aquarian
and
have
been
kind
of
a
part
of
some
of
the
wellness
policy
activities
statewide
for
the
last
12
years.
B
Amanda
foster
and
I'm
the
executive
assistant
to
the
school
board
hi.
My
name
is
sheri
and
I'm
sorry,
I'm
like
I
just
moved
to
interest
two
weeks
ago,
I'm
a
physical
therapist
of
phd
in
physical.
B
E
Thank
you.
I
am
melanie
anchorage
school
districts,
health
and
physical
education,
curriculum
coordinator
for
grades
k
through
12.
G
A
H
Hi,
it's
margo
bellamy,
I'm
calling
in
from
on
my
way
to
a
another
appointment,
but
I'm
just
I
see
this
as
a
great
opportunity
for
us
to
finally
get
this
work
done
and
hear
and
have
the
voices
at
the
table
that
really
that
really
we
really
need
to
hear
from
and
andy
you're,
not
a
member
of
this
committee,
but
maybe
they
they
welcomed
your
wisdom
on
the
committee.
F
I'm
pam,
I
am
a
parent
in
the
school
district.
My
I
have
two
children
they're,
both
in
second
grade
at
ravenwood,
but
I'm
also
a
registered
dietitian
over
at
south
central
foundation
in
the
pediatric
clinic.
I
My
name
is
april
eide,
I'm
the
alaska
pta
president,
the
diamond
high
school
ptsa
president.
I
have
a
junior
at
diamond.
I
I'm
happy
to
have
been
selected
to
be
part
of
this
ad
hoc
committee,
as
health
and
wellness
is
a
big
priority
of
ptas,
especially
advocating
at
the
national
level,
which
is
something
that
I
do
yearly.
So
I
like
to
see
that
anchorage
is
working
on
building
a
a
better
policy
over
the
wellness.
So
thank
you.
C
Great
well,
thank
you
all.
We
do
have
two
other
community
members
I'll
follow
up
with
them
if
they
can't
join
us
today,
I
wondered
if
lauren
lauren
gave
us
a
little
bit
of
we
gathered
about
a
week
or
two
a
couple
weeks
ago
to
sort
of
figure
out
our
path
forward
for
selecting
our
parent
guardian
members
and
I'd
like
to
ask
lauren
to
just
give
us
a
brief
wellness
policy
101
overview
once
more
for
the
record
to
really
launch
us
off.
D
Student
wellness
policies
are
also
called
the
student,
nutrition
and
physical
activity
policy
and
they
are
been
required
nationwide
since,
like
2008
or
2006,
I
think
for
anyone
who
participates
in
the
national
school
lunch
and
breakfast
program,
it's
kind
of
the
thing,
and
there
are
a
piece
of
them
that
are
very
there's
a
handful
of
pieces
that
are
very
like
you
must
do
this,
and
this
especially
associated
with
the
foods
that
are
sold
during
the
school
day,
the
kind
of
specific
hours
of
the
school
day
and
the
convening
and
welcoming
people
to
know
about
the
policy
they're
they're
real
specific,
but
then
there's
a
fair
amount
of
it.
D
That's
pretty
broad!
It's
like
come
together
and
come
up
with
your
goals,
so
there
needs
to
be
goals
about
nutrition,
education
for
the
school.
There
needs
to
be
goals
about
nutrition
promotion
for
the
school.
There
needs
to
be
goals
about
physical
activity,
which
can
be
your
recess,
your
pe,
your
before
and
after
school
activities.
D
There
needs
to
be
goals
around.
They
call
it
other
other
wellness
activities
and
that
kind
of
gives
some
nice
broadness
oftentimes
people
pick
something
like
school
gardens
or
trying
to
expand
their
breakfast
programs
across
the
state.
You
know
they'll
pick
something
else.
That's
just
a
little
bit
of
a
broader
topic.
D
There
needs
to
be
every
three
years,
which
is
kind
of
where
you
guys
stand
right
now,
an
assessment
of
like
hey,
how's
it
going
so
far,
and
what
are
the
next
goals
that
we
need
to
to
to
be?
Moving
towards?
That's
kind
of
the,
I
would
say
the
highest
level.
D
It
tends
to
be
one
of
the
longer
more
complicated
policies
just
because
there
are
so
many
pieces
of
it,
but
there
is
good
model
language
we've
worked
with
the
school
boards
association
and
child
nutrition
services
from
department
of
ed
to
come
up
with
model
language.
D
It
is
one
of
the
few
policies
that
has
a
little
bit
of
compliance
every
three
years.
The
nutrition
program
gets
a
actual
compliance
check
where
they
look
into
it
a
little
bit
too.
So
that's
pros
and
cons.
There's
sides
to
that
as
well,
and
the
other
nice
thing
is
since
this
happens,
like
nationwide
like
when
they
started
to
say
there
should
be
more
whole
grains
in
the
food
sold
at
school.
There's
a
whole
bunch
of
products
out
there
across
the
nation
that
are
like
51,
whole
grain,
doritos
and
51.
D
C
Think
that
was
great
and
we
can
you
can
dive
more.
I
hope
we
will
be
diving
more
deeply
into
the
nuts
and
bolts
of
our
wellness
policy.
You
know
what
we
currently
have
and
the
vision
for
what
we're
going
for
as
we
move
forward.
I
just
wanted
to
recap
for
our
parent
guardian
stakeholders
and
for
everybody
in
the
room.
Really.
C
The
goal
with
this
group
is
that
we're
going
to
bring
our
ford
policy
50
40
in
line
with
the
structure
of
other
policies.
It
is
long
it
is
complete.
C
So
what
the
anchorage
school
district
you
know
designs
is
going
to
be
very
different
than
what
bethel
or
chugach
or
another
district
in
alaska
might
design.
So
we
want
to
figure
out
what
what
looks
and
feels
and
and
sounds
and
fits
the
anchorage,
school
district
and
all
of
our
students
and
our
various
schools.
So
just
I
wanted
to
recap
the
charge
to
the
committee.
Our
lead
administrative
facilitator
is
is
melanie
sutton,
because
health
and
pe
is
her
content
specialty.
C
She
leads
that
here
in
the
district
we
one
of
our
goals
is
going
to
be
to
come
up
with
some
draft
languages,
get
stakeholder
feedback
from
from
staff,
from
teachers
from
principals
during
this
policy
writing
process
and
then
bring
some
of
those
suggestions
to
address
those
suggestions
before
this
is,
I
guess,
getting
to
the
schedule
before
we
send
our
product
onto
the
governance
committee
and
maybe
carl,
since
you
cheered
governance
last
year,
could
you
just
give
everybody
a
brief
overview
of
what
that
that
process
looks
like
how
does?
A
So
once
this
working
group
has
the
framers
in
place
that
we
generated
through
these
meetings,
other
stakeholder
interviews,
we're
going
to
have
a
rough
draft
of
a
replacement
policy
that
either
encompasses
everything
in
a
policy
in
an
ar
or
encompasses
a
policy
that
directs
the
administration
engaged
in
a
separate
process
to
supplement
certain
policy
with
an
administrative
regulation.
That's
something
the
board
reviews
and
acknowledges,
but
doesn't
have
direct
input,
and
so
that's,
why
being
intentional
on
the
front
end
with
writing?
A
A
At
that
point,
it
becomes
an
open
motion
if
you
will
or
an
item
to
be
adjusted
as
the
committee
feels
is
necessary
and
once
that
this
kind
of
a
final
work
product
it
will
get
referred
on
to
the
full
board
for
adoption
and
then
that's
put
on
a
scheduled
meeting
as
a
non-action
item.
And
then
a
second
evening
is
an
action
item
or
a
second
reading
and.
C
Pause
there
are
there
any
that's
a
lot.
So
are
there
any
questions
about
that
general
process
from
pam
or
april
or
sherry,
okay,
great?
So
as
I
conceptualized
and-
and
you
remember,
jacobs
and
I
are
co-chairing
this-
but
the
idea
of
what
you
know:
when
can
we
let's
back
date,
if
we
wanted
to
get
something
really
back
dating,
I
think
the
vision
is
to
have
a
board
policy
50
40
up
and
running
by
next
school
year.
C
A
long
time
in
advance
and
people
need
time
to
adjust,
and
so
my
hope,
my
preference
would
be
that
we
could
finish
our
work
in
time
for
roughly
a
late
october
governance
meeting
that
could
eventually
get
onto
a
board
non-action
and
then
action
in
our
december
meetings.
So
that
would
give
the
administration
really
the
entire
second
semester
and
summer
to
adjust
to
whatever
changes
might
be
coming
their
way.
So
that
means
quite
frankly,
a
lot
of
homework
in
the
next
few
weeks
to
to
get
there.
C
So
I
appreciate
your
willingness
to
to
help
us
out.
I
have
maybe
amanda.
Do
you
have
access
to
those
folders?
C
Let's,
let's
at
least
how
about?
Could
we
pull
up?
I
guess
the
available
folders,
so
melanie
sutton
has
created
a
folder
that
is
titled
2022.23,
and
hopefully
we
can
confirm
that
all
all
people,
all
the
individuals
here-
have
access
to
that
folder
and
under
under
that
2022-23
folder.
There
is
one:
that's
labeled,
additional
information.
A
C
Yes,
there's
a
related
articles
of
interest
and
on
there
are
some
links
to
give
to
give
everyone
a
little
bit
of
background
information.
As
laura
mentioned
a
few
years
ago,
the
district
sponsored
a
wellness
pilot
program
and
they
were.
There
was
a
collaboration
with
a
researcher
from
space
out
of
harvard
she's
published
a
couple
of
studies
based
on.
B
C
Great
okay,
so
there
is
under,
I
think,
under
additional
information,
and
this
is
hopefully
useful
for
background
knowledge.
There
are
some
links
to
the
two
published
studies
that
dr
dr
cohen
drafted
and
then,
if
you
scroll
down
just
a
little
bit
more,
there
is
a
a
wonderful
study
that
was
done
in
partnership
with
dhss.
C
So
a
little
bit
a
little
bit
farther
down
amanda
keep
going
yes,
that
third
one.
So
there
are
two
published
studies
and
then
this
someone
published
study,
yes
did.
G
She
write
these
articles
after
she
did
the
pilot
here.
Yes,.
G
C
About
a
third
of
our
elementary
students,
schools
participating
in
this
wellness
pilot,
so
three
studies
that
will
help
with
background
and
you
know
just
sort
of
understanding
what
went
well.
What
was
the
challenge?
I
think
that
the
principle,
the
principle
executive
summary
that
dhss
did
was
really
useful
in
understanding.
Well
gee.
If
we
did
any
changes,
you
know,
staff
will
need
some
assistance
in
implementing
changes.
Okay,
so
there's
there's
that
background
information
and
then,
if
we
go
back
up,
amanda.
D
Okay,
yep,
then
just
the
one.
So
these
this
was
about
trying
to
increase
the
time
to
eat
and
increase
the
recess.
C
I
C
22
to
23
folder
again,
it'll
just
show
other
resources
which
will
be
useful
for
homework
so
under
board
policies.
C
We
have
you
can
see
what
we
talked
about.
The
model
lauren
spoke
about
model
policies,
so
aasb
refers
to
the
alaska
association
of
school
boards
and
they
have
a
model
policy.
I
think
this
one
is
dated
to
2019
and
that
model
administrative
regulation.
C
So
that's
something
to
consider
oops.
That's
that's
another
document,
that's
in
there
as
well.
This
is
a
draft
item
from
that
the
may
22nd
2019..
That
is
useful
for
background
knowledge.
That
was
a
draft
rewrite
that
was
done
two
and
a
half
years
ago.
So
that
could
be
useful
for
us
as
a
committee
moving
forward
and
then
I
think
in
this
same
folder
or
maybe
in
the
asd
folder
there
is
the
current
board
policy.
50
40..
C
Yes,
so
if
you
go
up
one
more
again,
please
amanda
it's
just
going
to
take
a
little
bit
of
playing
around
to
get
familiar
with
it,
but
yeah.
That's
our
current
policy
right
there,
so
that
might
be
a
good
document
to
have
on
hand
and
you
can
print
it
out
at
home
and
mark
it
up.
Maybe,
as
you
read
through.
C
Missing
what
would
we
change
and
then
and
then
we
have
policies
from
kenai.
G
C
Natsu
juno
fairbanks
and
then
I
think
also
somewhere
in
this
we
have
a
checklist
for
when
we
are
drafting
our
policy.
You
know
what
are
those
components
that
we
need
to
have,
so
I
just
wanted
to
give
that
overview
of
the
resources
and
I'll
make
sure
with
amanda
that
everybody
has
access
to
that,
and
then
I
wanted
to
I'll
pause.
Are
there
any
questions.
G
D
Could
talk
to
that
there's
bolded
pieces,
the
bold
pieces
should
be
in
policy.
Okay
and
the
rest
can
be
where
it
fits
best.
Yeah
there's
the
required
pieces
that
they
just
put.
C
Okay,
some
good
materials
to
have
on
hand
I
wanted
to
pivot,
so
we
keep
moving
through
towards
backwards
planning
with
the
idea.
I
think
we
have
an
october
27th
governance
committee
so
in
order
to
have
materials
from
this
committee
ready
for
that,
we,
I
think,
need
to
really
at
our
next
meeting,
potentially
potentially
next
week,
start
figuring
out
what
should
go
into
a
new
policy
and
what
could
go
into
the
administrative
regulations.
So
I'm
gonna
suggest
that
we
work
next
at
our
next
meeting
on
calling
through.
C
Maybe
you
want
a
pink
highlighter
and
a
yellow,
highlighter
and
say
we.
We
need
to
dump
this
here
and
dump
this
here
and
then,
once
we
have
figured
out
what
stays
within
the
pilot
the
board
policy,
then
we
can
work
on
wordsmithing
and
really
working
through
the
substance
of
that
policy.
Is
that
a
process
that
most
people
are
not
yet
so
begin
with
figuring
out
what
should
stay
in
the
policy
and
what
should
go
to
administrative
regulations?
C
E
Clarification,
yes,
are
we
looking
at
current
asd
policy
to
determine
what
stays
in
policy
and
what
goes
in
they
are.
Are
we
looking
at
checklist
and
current
policy.
G
C
D
One
other
just
yeah,
at
least
from
experience
of
working
with
other
districts
on
this,
just
because
something's
in
policy
doesn't
mean
it
usually
is
actually
also
in
ar,
because
it's
like
we
will
provide
nutrition
education
to
k-12,
and
then
you
in
the
ar
you're
like
it's
going
to
be
through
your
health
class.
It's
going
to
be
through
this.
You
know
like
you're,
it's
there
and
then
it's
still
like
house
so
oftentimes.
D
D
Kind
of
the
how
okay
and
the
the
hesitation
with
the
how
at
least
at
a
like
at
a
like
strength
of
the
policy
piece
is:
can
the
house
flip
around
without
public
input
and
without
you
know,
like
you,
get
a
new
person
and
they
just
decide
they're
going
to
cut
it.
So
that's
a
piece
of
why
sometimes
you're
like
we
really
want
to
make
sure
this
is
in
board
policy.
D
C
If
they
change
their
mind
and
start
doing
things
differently,
those
changes
will
be
presented,
but
the
board
doesn't
usually
write
the
administration
figures
out
how
they're
going
to
actually
make
it
happen.
C
So
my
suggestion
after
we
figure
out
what
should
stay
within
the
board
policy
for
the
subsequent
meeting
potentially
the
week
of
september
5th,
would
be
that
we
really
start
thinking
about
the
content
of
that
policy.
You
know
and
we'll
just
go
section
by
section
and
it
you
know
hopefully
won't
be
too
overwhelming,
but
we
can
just
begin
with.
I
don't
even
know
what
the
first
section
is,
but
you
know
something
like
nutrition
or
something
like
physical
activity.
C
C
My
suggestion
would
be
that
we
try
to
finalize
a
draft
policy
by
friday
september
16th
and
also
at
that
meeting
whenever
that
week
the
meeting
is
define
and
plan
our
stakeholder
feedback
opportunities.
So
whether
those
are
surveys
that
we
push
out
whether
we
loop
in
we
have
our
aea
representative
here,
you
know:
when
do
we
loop,
those
other
stakeholders
in
to
get
their
feedback
so
that
we
can
then
absorb
it
and
move
forward?
So
maybe
you
have
a
period
of
stakeholder
feedback,
whether
it's
town
halls
or
zoom
forums
or
we're
online.
C
We
can.
We
can
talk
about
what
that'll
look
like
incorporate
that
feedback
the
week
of
october
3rd
and
have
something
done
by
maybe
maybe
october
14th,
which
is
kind
of
mid-month,
and
would
then
allow
that
document
to
move
forward
into
the
governance
committee.
So
that's
really.
The
bulk
of
the
work
by
this
committee
would
happen
between
now
and
mid-october.
C
E
Was
that
last
date,
member
lessons.
C
I
C
As
andy
keeps
us
to
a
very
strict
one
hour
meeting
time
frame,
so
I
have
a
couple
of
questions
number
one:
is
there
any?
Does
anybody
have
a
problem
with
their
contact
information
being
shared
among
this
group
that
we
could
just
sort
of
get
it
get
a
membership
list?
Is
that
okay,
sherry
p.m
april?
Okay,
great
and
the
second
is
going
to
be
a
little
more
challenging
and
that
is
figuring
out
when
it's
convenient
for
people
to
meet.
So
I
did
get
some
feedback
from
april.
C
A
I'm
picturing
at
the
end
of
each
of
our
meetings
as
well,
I
think,
would
be
helpful,
is
a
recap
of
kind
of,
broadly
speaking,
a
little
discussion
and
action
items
like
homework
and
then,
as
part
of
our
initial
recap
from
today,
it
might
be
helpful
to
use.
I
mean
I've
seen
some
great
things
like
surveymonkey
yeah.
Just
folks
can
check
the
times
and
we'll
see
if
we
can
get
a
match
that
way.
Okay,.
C
Great
so
we'll
send
out
a
calendar
sort
of
a
survey.
C
H
C
It
out
right
I'll,
just
I'll
I'll,
make
sure
that
we
we
send
out
those
materials
and
answer
a
calendar
survey
after
this
meeting.
C
I
And
let
you
know
I
know
I
mentioned
with
like
my
availability
of
like
mondays,
I
own
a
cafe,
and
it's
just
me
that
works
there
mondays
I
don't
open
till
one,
so
mondays
like
early
mornings,
I'm
more
free
or
tuesdays
and
thursdays
if
it
works
for
everyone
else
doing
like
after
four
o'clock.
I
can
make
that
work
as
well.
B
C
I
I
think
that
the
calendar
survey
is
probably
going
to
get
us
to
the
get
us
to
the
get
us
there
and
then
I
think
just
for
ease
of
scheduling.
Maybe
if
we
can
just
say:
okay,
it's
going
to
be
a
on
x
day
at
x
o'clock
and
then
we'll
just
block
out,
hopefully
an
hour,
maybe
90
minutes
to
make
that
happen.
D
A
So
my
thought
it
was
a
great
question,
so
I
think
through
it
too.
I
think
kelly
and
I
probably
need
to
be
intentional
and
clear
as
to
what
would
be
best
to
review
what
would
best
review
prior
to
the
next
meeting
and
at
some
point
I
think
it
would
be
a
good
exercise
if
we
could
squeeze
it
in
to
say:
let's
look
at
keynote,
you
know
etc
and
see
what
what's
added
value
there
for
us
yeah.
What.
C
B
You
so
it
was
under
the
relate.
C
So
this
was
drafted
in
may
of
2019
as
part
of
a
pretty
comprehensive
review
of
the
policy,
and
so
it
has
differences
from
the
actual
asb
board
policy.
So
in
a
way-
and
I
think
that
those
are
like
if
you
were
to
scroll
down
a
little
bit-
they're
just
written
in
red-
so
I
think
that
it
might
be
a
good
place
to
begin
and
people
can
say.
Yes,
we
agree
with
that
or
no
we.
C
We
want
to
continue
to
strike
out
that
cdc
usda
language,
for
example,
so
that
so,
for
example,
the
red
language
there.
That
was
something
that
in
2019,
the
committee
proposed
adding
back
but
does
not
currently
exist,
and
actually
that
came
from
there's
also
an
alaska
gold
standard,
wellness
policy
and
that's
where
some
of
that
language
came
from
so
there's
definitely
a
genealogy
here
of
where
language
has
has
come
in
and
been
taken
out
over
time
again
trying
to
suit
to
districts
different
needs.
C
So
my
suggestion
would
be:
let's
use
this
as
a
place
of
conversation
and
maybe
say
hey
what
is
the
kenai
like
if
we
scroll
down
to
nutrition,
you
know
what
does
canine
do
for
that
section
b
on
nutrition
or
what
do
kenoi
mats
do
fairbanks
and
juno
only
for
nutrition.
You
know
what
are
similarities.
What
are
differences.
C
I
guess
that's
once
we
figure
out
what
what
can
stay
and
what
can
go.
So
this
is
maybe
that's
maybe
step
two,
but
maybe
maybe
my
my
theory
would
be.
The
proposal
would
be
to
begin
with
this
document.
D
E
G
C
So
yes,
so
there
should
be
our
current
board
policy
and
our
current
ar.
So
thank
you
for
that.
E
And
the
other
board
policy
in
the
ar
is
in
the
300
series
and
is
specifically
referring
to
student
nutrition,
because
occasionally
the
other
school
districts
will
mention
student
nutrition
stuff.
But
it's
in
our
policy.
It's
two
different
places.
So
that's
why
I
included
the
other
piece.
Would.
E
C
Okay,
well,
then,
I
think
I'll
work
on
getting
materials
sent
out
today,
a
calendar
sent
out
a
calendar
invite
sent
out
today-
and
maybe
this
is
wednesday-
if
we
could
ask
you
all
to
reply
back
by
friday
morning.
Does
that
seem
reasonable
with
a
calendar?
If
we
get
this
out
and
we'll
just
sort
of
try
to
schedule
things?
Yes,
okay,
I
think
that
we're
probably
all
like
planning
here.
C
Okay,
so
hopefully
we'll
have
a
we
get
that
input
by
friday
morning
by
friday
afternoon,
we
should
be
able
to
move
forward
with
with
a
complete
schedule.
