Once
the
graduates
are
in
place,
we
will
have
the
playing
of
our
national
anthem
following
the
anthem
we
will
begin
conferring
diplomas
to
our
graduates
after
the
diplomas
have
been
conferred.
We
will
move
weather
permitting
to
our
student
and
board
of
education
speakers
if
we
have
to
evacuate
the
stadium
for
any
reason.

As
you
know,
due
to
weather,
we
are
rearranging
our
program
order
today,
so
that
we
can
celebrate
the
graduates
first,
following
the
national
anthem,
we
will
immediately
be
conferring
diplomas
after
that
weather
permitting,
will
move
to
our
speakers
at
this
time.
Please
remain
standing
for
the
pledge
of
allegiance
and
remain
standing
for
the
national
anthem.

At
this
time,
I
would
like
to
recognize
students
who
have
earned
latin
honors.
We
have
implemented
the
latin
center
system
in
anne
arundel
county
public
schools.
The
latin
honor
system
recognizes
the
exceptional
academic
achievements
of
the
graduating
students
and
is
delineated
into
three
levels
of
honors
laude
or
with
honors
is
for
all
students
who
received
a
3.4
or
higher
unweighted
gpa
calculated
after
the
seventh
semester
of
high
school.

Ladies
and
gentlemen,
the
honorable
member
of
the
board
of
education
is
michelle.
Corcodell
is
pleased
to
join
me
in
recognizing
our
graduating
class
of
2021.,
mr
corkdale,
on
behalf
of
the
faculty
and
staff
of
southern
high
school.
I
recommend
the
members
of
the
class
of
2021
as
qualified
candidates
for
the
state
of
maryland's
diploma
and
certificates.
D
By
the
virtue
of
the
authority
vested
in
the
board
of
education
of
anne
arundel
county
under
the
laws
of
the
state
of
maryland,
I
do
now
award
diplomas
evidencing
satisfactory.
Completion
of
the
prescribed
course
of
students
to
the
students
of
southern
high
school
who
have
been
recommended
for
graduation
by
the
faculty
of

At

we
would

Sit,
I
am
melissa,
fister
assistant,
principal
and
school
administrator
for
the
class
of
2021..
I
would
like
to
thank
the
parents,
staff
members,
honored
guests
and
the
class
of
2021
for
your
attendance
today.
At
this
time.
I
am
pleased
to
introduce
the
distinguished
honored
guests
that
have
joined
us
to
celebrate
our
graduation
as
I
introduce
them
to
you.

B
G
Friends,
families,
teachers,
esteemed
guests
and
fellow
bulldogs.
It
is
my
absolute
honor
to
speak
in
front
of
you
today
in
commemoration
of
the
accomplishments
of
southern
high
school's
class
of
2021
graduates
and
in
celebration
of
what's
to
come,
and
I
think
I
speak
on
behalf
of
all
students
when
I
say
it's
over,
but
it's
not
over.
G
In
fact,
it's
just
the
end
of
the
beginning,
high
school
has
changed
us
in
more
ways
than
anyone
could
have
imagined
and
over
the
course
of
the
past
four
years
we
have
built
for
ourselves
new
pillars
of
strength
and
adaptability,
tenacity
and
creativity
in
biology.
We
learn
about
adaptability
as
the
potential
of
a
species
to
adjust
to
changing
environmental
circumstances
as
a
means
of
improving
biological
fitness
in
terms
of
biology
adaptations,
take
generations
upon
generations
to
develop.
G
However,
in
the
course
of
just
one
year,
we
have
demonstrated
adaptability
in
various
capacities
and
in
a
way
defied
the
laws
of
nature,
unlike
the
first
day
of
freshman
year,
which
was
uplifted
by
the
physical
gathering
of
classmates,
live
performances
in
the
auditorium
and
ice
cream.
Sandwiches
in
front
of
the
school.
The
first
day
of
senior
year
was
greeted
with
a
stream
of
google
classrooms
and
a
list
of
google
meat
links.
G
For
the
first
time
in
high
school,
we
were
fully
remote
learning
from
our
bedrooms,
basements
living
rooms,
kitchens
and
backyards.
Yes,
it
was
strange.
Yes,
it
was
unfamiliar,
but
we
ultimately
settled
into
the
uncertainty
and
learned
to
find
confidence.
Amidst
the
unexpected
we
learned
to
change
along
with
the
tide
and
the
adaptability
we
gained
this
year
will
have
positive
ripple
effects
on
our
futures.
G
Our
high
school
journey
has
also
taught
us
to
be
tenacious
through
the
past
four
years
we
have
endured
many
struggles
and
many
losses,
including
the
life
of
our
beloved
teacher,
heather
weibel
and
the
life
of
our
admired
friend,
edwin
rivera
in
spite
of
this
year.
However,
a
year
that
has
produced
more
hurting
than
healing
more
pitfalls
than
easy
roads
more
unpredictability
than
assurance,
we
still
managed
to
come
out
on
the
other
side
as
resilient
and
determined
individuals
in
the
beginning
of
high
school.
We
conquered
the
normal
world
this
year,
we
conquered
the
virtual
world.
G
Creativity
promotes
harmony
between
the
introverts
and
extroverts,
the
leaders
and
followers,
and
the
problem
solvers
and
risk
takers.
When
we
transition
from
middle
school
to
high
school,
our
creativity
was
explored
as
we
experimented
with
the
newness
of
freshman
year
over
the
next
four
years.
It
matured
into
inspiration,
originality
and
a
new
source
of
growth
through
which
we
found
our
identities.
G
G
H
Hello,
I
first
want
to
thank
principal
hopkins.
Miss
corcodell,
miss
dr
kennedy,
miss
jackson,
miss
lane
sullivan,
miss
bauer
and
miss
fister
for
being
here
at
our
graduation
this
afternoon.
It
means
a
lot
that
we're
able
to
come
together
in
person
for
the
celebration,
friends
and
family,
both
here
and
at
home
teachers
staff
class
of
2021.
H
H
Thank
you
to
any
and
every
support
system
we
had,
whether
it
be
family
or
close
friends
that
helped
us
make
it
to
this
moment.
Thank
you
to
my
fellow
graduates
for
being
amazing
and
making
the
classes
and
activities.
I
was
part
of
so
much
better.
I'm
grateful
for
everything
the
people
here
today
have
done
for
me
and
that
recognition
is
far
overdue.
H
Upon
writing
this
speech.
I
realized
I
may
not
be
the
most
qualified
to
stand
in
front
of
you
and
speak.
I
wasn't
in
most
social
circles
and
didn't
have
the
connections.
The
rest
of
you
had
preferring
to
sort
of
drift
through
high
school
life
without
much
commotion.
Yet
when
the
opportunity
arrived,
I
decided
to
go
for
it.
H
Why
it's
a
different
year?
Why
not
put
forth
a
different
me
as
a
wise
man?
Putting
a
yard
flamingo
into
his
lawn
once
said,
bring
it.
On
years
ago
we
were
presented
with
the
high
school
dream
of
pop
culture.
Fame
a
senior
year
filled
with
pep
rallies,
homecoming
sports
games,
performances
and
showcases.
H
H
Why
not
take
a
look
at
the
positives,
our
class
completed
an
entire
school
year
online.
We
adapted
to
the
challenges
of
online
learning
and
thrived
the
best
we
could.
We
were
accepted
into
the
colleges
and
made
plans
for
the
future,
while
not
being
able
to
truly
explore
the
opportunities
we
have.
We
earned
scholarships
showed
off
the
work
we've
done
for
years
and
made
the
people
around
us
proud
of
our
accomplishments.
H
H
We
were
able
to
get
back
together
to
play
spring
sports,
something
I'm
not
qualified
to
speak
on.
We
had
versions
of
art,
quests
and
concerts
and
performances
that
could
be
done
safely.
We
went
back
to
in-person
schooling
at
least
two
days
a
week,
and
we
were
finally
able
to
put
icons
to
faces.
We
ate
lunch
together,
again
wandered
the
hallways
and
just
got
to
see
each
other.
We
had
a
prom
and
now
an
in-person
graduation
and
what's
the
connection
between
all
these
things,
we
we
did
it.
H
We
made
it
through
our
final
years
of
high
school
in
unprecedented
circumstances.
What
wasn't
expected
was
for
covet
19
to
bring
us
together
more
than
ever
before
group.
Chats
video
calls
yelling
at
each
other
on
front
porches.
It
didn't
matter.
We
made
the
time
to
see
each
other
and
help
each
other
through
this.
We
did
this
as
a
community
and
that's
something
I'll,
never
forget.
Thank
you
and
congratulations.

D
Graduates,
your
family
and
friends
have
all
made
sacrifices
so
that
you
would
be
successful.
These
sacrifices
have
included
quieting
your
house
for
studying
class
time,
giving
you
rides
and
when
help
was
needed
for
a
test,
tryout
or
project,
giving
it
willingly
and,
most
importantly,
just
being
there
when
you
needed
someone
to
understand.
D
D
I
have
no
doubt
of
the
potential
for
greatness
in
each
and
every
one
of
you
and
let's
not
forget
that
you
got
yourself
here
and
it
was
no
accident
through
the
wins
and
losses,
exams,
performances,
conferences,
concerts
and
even
covet.
You
prevailed,
you
sat
in
the
classes,
did
the
work
in
school
and
at
home
practiced
the
drills
you
learned
to
become
active
in
your
education
and
all
those
lessons
and
hard
work
have
led
you
to
this
moment.
D
Ralph
waldo
emerson
has
to
be
my
favorite
author
of
all
times,
and
I've
always
thought
that
if
someone
else
says
what
you
mean
quote
them
unapologetically
so
before
we
move
on
to
the
next
recognition
speech,
I
hope
you
will
indulge
me
three
quick
emerson
quotes.
I
find
appropriate
in
this
moment
for
our
graduates
to
ponder,
explore
and
explore
and
explore
be
neither
chided
nor
flattered
out
of
your
position
of
perpetual
inquiry.
D
Second,
the
good
news
is
that
the
moment
you
decide
that
what
you
know
is
more
important
than
what
you
have
been
taught
to
believe
you
will
have
shifted
gears
in
your
quest
for
abundance.
Success
comes
from
within
not
from
without
to
be
yourself
in
a
world
that
is
constantly
trying
to
make
you
something
else.
D
I
imagine
a
day
years
from
now,
when
you're
going
to
pull
out
an
old
bulldog
t-shirt
from
the
back
of
your
drawer
and
be
reminded
with
great
fondness,
who
you
are
and
where
you
came
from
in
that
moment.
Remember
today
is
the
beginning
of
the
path.
Will
you
you
will
have
traversed
and
the
people
that
sent
you
forth
from
here.
D
G
C
C
Thank
you
all
for
dedicating
your
time
and
effort
to
celebrate
the
southern
highs
class
of
2021
graduates.
When
I
reflect
upon
this
year,
I'm
inspired
by
the
strength
and
perseverance
you
have
demonstrated,
as
we
have
worked
together
to
overcome
the
obstacles
we
encountered
during
your
junior
year.
When
you
first
learned,
schools
would
be
closing
for
two
weeks.
None
of
us
could
have
imagined
the
year
to
come.
C
C
You
picked
up
chromebooks
in
august.
You
learn
to
navigate
the
google
classroom
as
well
as
other
programs.
In
september,
you
exhibited
responsibility,
as
you
saw
a
balance
between
school
and
home
life
when
they
suddenly
integrated
into
one.
You
managed
to
acclimate
to
the
dynamics
of
virtual
learning,
while
becoming
comfortable
with
being
in
front
of
the
camera.
C
Our
athletes,
just
dissem,
demonstrated
positivity
and
grit
as
they
patiently
awaited
their
seasons.
There
was
a
collective
frustration
at
the
postponement
of
practices
in
the
fall,
but
the
love
of
the
game
drove
us
forward.
There
was
great
anticipation
and
liberation
with
the
start
of
the
fall
and
spring
season.
C
When
you
enter
your
high
school
as
a
freshman,
you
look
forward
to
the
thrill
of
partaking
in
events,
activities
and
milestones
that
accompany
your
senior
year
throughout
this
year.
You
continue
to
demonstrate
flexibility,
as
you
are
met
with
a
very
different
reality
than
anticipated
when
it
was
announced
that
prom
and
graduation
at
maryland
live
would
be
cancelled.
You
refused
to
succumb
to
the
disappointment,
as
once
again
adjusted
to
the
reality
that
your
senior
year
was
far
from
what
you
expected
as
a
world
worked
toward
a
return
to
normalcy.
C
Undoubtedly
this
past
year
we
were
forced
to
improvise
adapt
adjust,
but
ultimately
we
overcame,
as
I
contemplated
the
events
of
this
past
year,
the
1989
yes
1989
song,
we
didn't
start
the
fire
by
billy,
joel
felt
very
fitting
billy
joel
wrote
the
song
at
the
age
of
40
in
response
to
a
conversation
with
a
20-year-old
sean
lennon
lennon
believed
that
joel
had
it
easy
growing
up
in
the
1950s
compared
to
the
1980s
and
in
his
song
billy
joe
offered
a
chronological
list
of
social,
political,
scientific
and
cultural
references.
Expanding
from
the
1950s
through
the
1970s.
C
The
lyrics
for
the
courses
are,
we
didn't
start
the
fire.
It
was
always
burning
since
the
world's
been
turning.
We
didn't
start
the
fire,
no,
he
didn't
light
it,
but
we
tried
to
fight
it.
We
didn't
start
the
fire,
but
when
we
are
gone,
it
will
still
burn
on
and
on
and
on
the
song
conveys
the
idea
that
life
is
a
flurry
of
significant
events
that
shapes
our
society
and
makes
history.
C
We
have
learned
from
the
flurry
of
events
over
the
past
year
that
time
will
continue
to
pass,
and
we
must
believe
believe
that
we
will
persevere
as
we
persevere.
We
must
be
flexible
and
change
as
we
adapt.
We
must
also
have
compassion
for
ourselves
and
for
others
we
must
understand
each
other's
story
and
in
order
to
truly
connect
and
move
forward
together
through
the
fire,
as
we
forge
a
path
to
the
new
normal.
C
I
hope
that
these
struggles
and
celebrations
from
your
senior
year
will
serve
as
a
reminder
to
focus
on
the
positives
and
demonstrate
gratitude
to
slow
down
and
enjoy
life
to
love
those
around
us,
because,
because
tomorrow's
not
guaranteed
and
to
find
it
in
your
hearts
to
offer
compassion
and
forgiveness,
as
you
continue
continue,
your
journey
always
remember
good
days,
give
happiness
bad
days.
Give
you
experience
the
worst
days.
