B
My
name
is
linda
smith,
and
I
am
an
assistant
principal
at
arundel
high
school.
The
class
of
2022
has
carefully
planned
this
dignified
ceremony
this
morning.
Please
treat
today's
event
the
same
as
you
would
treat
any
special
occasion
as
the
graduates
enter.
Please
stand
and
remain
standing
for
the
pledge
of
allegiance
and
the
national
anthem.

Believe
me,
I
can't
believe
it's
today
either,
but
today
isn't
just
any
day
it's
a
celebration
of
13
years
of
hard
work,
you've
all
dedicated
to
your
futures,
wherever
that
may
be
for
you.
It
feels
like.
Just
yesterday,
I
was
walking
up
the
front
steps
on
my
first
day,
seeing
my
middle
school
teachers.
Come
cheer
me
on
and
see
a
strange
guy,
holding
up
a
sign
that
says
sickle
mode
or
mo
bamba.
E
Many
will
say:
high
school
goes
by
fast
and
time
flies
when
you're
having
fun,
but
no
one
said
a
pandemic
was
fun
and
two
years
later
here
we
are,
and
we
still
can't
hide
that
wildcat
pride
while
this
may
sound
biased
and
it
is,
there
is
no
place
truly
like
arundel
from
sporting
events
to
musicals
academic
competitions
and
so
much
more.
It
really
isn't
comparable
and
to
be
able
to
come
back
together,
bring
back
the
school
spirit
and
rebuild
this
community
is
exactly
what
it
means
to
be
a
wildcat
seniors.
E
I
want
you
to
look
around
and
realize
this
is
the
final
final
time
you'll
be
in
the
same
place
at
the
same
time
as
most
of
the
people
in
this
room,
some
of
you
may
have
shared
a
classroom
since
you
first
learned
how
to
read,
and
some
you
just
met
today
as
the
great
ferris
bueller
states-
life
moves
pretty
fast.
If
you
don't
stop
and
look
around
once
in
a
while,
you
can
miss
it.
E
E
While
it
may
seem
sad
to
close
this
chapter
in
your
life,
just
know
that
a
new
one
waits
for
you
and
it
has
endless
possibilities
and
to
my
fellow
wildcat
graduates,
congratulations,
you
will
all
do
great
things
and
if
you
ever
find
yourself
unsure
just
ask
yourself
what
would
bywaters
do.
Thank
you.
G
boomi
is
focusing
her
efforts
on
the
post,
kovid
19
return
to
school
for
students,
curriculum
revisions
to
include
more
representation
of
black
indigest
and
people
of
color
and
lgbtq,
plus
communities,
expanding
learning
opportunities
for
newer,
diverse
students
and
increasing
education
on
healthy
relationships
for
teens
and
dating
violence
prevention.
A
first
generation

whose
parents
immigrated
from
nigeria
bhumi
is
a
co-founder
of
arundel
high,
school's
eckerly
leadership.
Council.
G
A
group
formed
to
address
school-wide
equity
concerns
in
that
role
she
has
planned
and
led
weekly
forums
and
has
helped
to
create
professional
development
content
for
the
school
staff.
In
addition,
boomi
has
read
led
an
anti-racism
book
study
for
students
and
staff
to
explore
issues
of
race
and
facilitated
a
similar
study
that
was
open
to
members
of
the
odenton,
crofton
and
goebbels
communities.
G
G
H
Okay,
so
I'm
going
to
be
honest,
I
was
fighting
tears
walking
up
here,
so
I'm
going
to
try
not
to
cry
before
miss
davenport,
but
we'll
see
so
good
morning:
parents,
school
faculty,
esteemed
guests,
my
mom
and
dad,
and
my
brother's
sister,
kemi
and
tayo,
because
I
know
they're
in
the
audience
and
most
importantly,
arundel's
class
of
2022.
H
So
I
have
about
five
minutes
for
the
speech
and
about
three
minutes
before
miss
davenport
cries,
so
I
will
do
my
best
to
be
succinct
and
be
clear
in
my
following
remarks.
As
you
look
at
today's
program.
The
word
commencement
titles,
this
milestone
in
our
lives,
four
years
of
classes,
48
months
of
walking
the
halls
of
f
hall
and
over
1400
days
of
bus,
rides
questionable
school
lunches
and
the
memories
that
will
color
our
adolescents
forever.
H
After
all
that
time,
when
we
sit
in
these
chairs
and
proceed
through
our
high
school
graduation,
the
word
commencement
is
used.
I
immediately
associate
this
word
with
an
ending,
but
it
means
the
exact
opposite.
It's
a
beginning,
a
start
into
an
unknown
that
exceeds
the
kelly
green
walls
and
white
fluorescent
lights
of
arundel's
campus.
H
You
might
hear
what
does
the
future
future
hold
for
me.
You
might
be
asking
this
question
yourself
for
some,
it
may
be
time
in
university,
trade,
school
or
our
armed
forces
and
for
others
it
may
be
a
gap
year
or
immediately
entering
the
workforce,
regardless
of
your
prepackaged
answer.
To
this
frequently
asked
question
of
what
are
you
doing
after
high
school?
All
of
us
share
a
chilling
feeling
inside
uncertainty.
H
We,
the
class
of
2022,
are
no
stranger
to
this
feeling.
I
remember
riding
the
bus
home
in
march
of
2020..
More
preoccupied
was
looking
for
flights
for
my
debate.
Competition,
which
was
supposed
to
be
in
chicago
then
facing
the
pending
changes
that
were
destined
for
us
to
face
nationals
was
canceled
and
I've
never
been
to
chicago.
H
H
H
Safety
was
my
solace
and
the
path
of
least
resistance
was
always
my
favorite
road.
I
would
bite
my
tongue
to
not
disturb
the
peace
and
pass
on
opportunities
that
I
believed,
quite
frankly,
were
way
out
of
my
league,
but,
as
I
grew,
I
felt
even
at
a
younger
age
that
I
wasn't
living
the
way
I
wanted
to.
H
H
H
I've
met
thousands
of
people
from
across
anne
arundel
county,
the
state
of
maryland
and
the
united
states,
volunteered
in
schools
and
community
organizations
alike
and,
most
importantly,
become
someone.
I
was
proud
to
be
to
my
fellow
seniors.
You
can
be
anything
and
I
mean
anything,
and
I
know
that
whatever
you
do
in
the
next
four
years
of
beyond
you'll
be
great.
H
You've
survived
ap
text,
virtual
learning
and
endured
a
senior
year
like
no
other.
Today
you
will
commence
the
rest
of
your
life,
a
beautiful
one
that
you
were
destined
to
leave,
have
the
audacity
to
strive
for
what
you
want,
not
just
what
you
think
you
deserve,
and
I
mean
this
when
I
say
this.
I
love
you
all
and
will
miss
arundel
because
of
the
community.
You
all
created
within
its
walls,
live
a
life
worth
living
that
creates
your
own
happiness
and,
for
the
last
time,
wildcats
be
sure
to
do
something
you're
proud
of
every
day.
I
I
This
is
what
arundel
is
all
about
in
our
four
years,
both
here
and
at
our
homes,
our
classes
painstakingly
and
with
incredible
effort
built
a
culture
that
everyone
wants
to
be
a
part
of
whether
it's
joining
an
honor
society,
playing
a
sport
or
even
just
competing
with
a
teacher
in
a
spike
ball
tournament.
There's
something
for
everyone.
When
you
leave
here
today
and
go
on
to
your
next
chapter
in
life,
don't
forget
about
your
experiences
with
extracurriculars,
because
they
don't
end
after
high
school.
Don't
let
your
passions
go
when
you
leave
here?
I
Yes,
the
world
needs
engineers,
scientists
and
doctors,
but
we
also
need
community
theater
performers.
We
need
little
league
coaches.
We
need
small
business
owners.
You
don't
need
to
be
president
of
the
united
states
or
at
the
top
of
your
field,
to
make
a
difference.
Where
would
we
be
without
the
creatives
without
the
mentors
wherever
your
passions
lie?
I
I
urge
you
to
fulfill
them
after
leaving
arundel
chances
are
somebody
else
has
that
same
passion
and
is
just
waiting
to
share
it
with
someone
humans
thrive
on
community
and
each
and
every
one
of
you
has
already
had
a
hand
in
building
one.
I've
been
a
part
of
several
communities
here
at
arundel,
and
I've
learned
something
from
each
one.
Arundel
field
hockey
taught
me
to
persevere
that,
even
if
you
start
0-6,
you
can
still
bring
home
the
state
championship.
I
Model
u.n
taught
me
that
you
can
build
something
so
meaningful
out
of
nothing
and
rocappa
taught
me
how
to
explore
my
passions
through
leadership,
while
arundel
and
our
class
as
a
whole
have
done
an
incredible
job,
creating
these
little
pockets
of
opportunity
for
people
to
thrive
in
they
exist
everywhere.
You
just
have
to
find
them
or
make
them
yourself.
I
So
I
urge
you,
if
you're
going
to
college,
taking
a
gap
year
going
into
the
military
whatever
it
may
be,
don't
let
your
passions
and
your
sense
of
community
go
get
involved
with
the
people
that
surround
you
and
even
the
people
that
don't
join
or
start
a
club
become
an
election
judge.
Do
the
weekly
bar
trivia,
even
if
you
lose
hold
your
passions
in
who
you
are
tightly
because
what
you
do
is
who
you
are.
I
This
is
both
a
blessing
and
a
curse.
Yes,
we
are
growing
up
to
each
be
individual
change
makers
in
our
own
right
and
we
may
truly
be
able
to
finally
bring
power
to
the
people,
but
it
is
also
a
huge
burden
to
bear.
Doesn't
it
feel
like
the
weight
of
the
world
rests
on
your
shoulders?
Sometimes,
like
you,
don't
even
know
where
to
start
lifting,
because
the
stone
you
have
to
carry
is
just
too
heavy.
I
Well,
it
doesn't
matter
where,
as
long
as
you
start
lifting
the
more
you
lift
the
stronger
you
get
and
the
lighter
that
stone
feels
you
don't
have
to
solve
climate
change
or
cure
cancer
on
your
own
to
make
a
difference.
You
really
just
have
to
be
yourself
and
put
yourself
out
there
all
those
little
things
running
tech
for
community
theater,
being
a
volleyball
coach,
forming
an
internet
community
where
you
play
dungeons
and
dragons,
they
make
a
difference.
I
You
make
a
difference
by
doing
them
without
passions
and
activities,
humans
would
be
lifeless
directionless
and
very
much,
not
human,
by
interacting
with
others
and
building
communities
together,
you
are
giving
yourself
and
others
meaning
and
the
motivation
to
thrive.
Another
day,
if
you
take
one
life
lesson
away
from
arundel,
let
it
be
to
get
involved.
It
will
change
your
life
for
the
better,
not
to
mention
what
it
will
do
for
others.

The

recognizes
exceptional
academic
achievement
by
graduating

and
is
delineated
in
three

for
all

Those

today

Please

that
you

This
year,
our
arundel
community
was
was
filled
with
celebration
and
friendship.
We
knew
that
together
was
exactly
where
we
wanted
to
be.
We
moved
through
this
year
with
pride
and
built
strong
relationships
that

You

part

when
you

back
on
your

as
you

I
hope
you
will
remember
that
belonging

something
we
all
strive
for
and
one
of
the
greatest
gifts
we
can
give
remember.
If
you
stand
for
nothing,
what
will
you

educate

about
it,
remember
to
try
everything,
because
this

the

your
great
