A
I
want
to
take
I
want
to
take
just
a
minute
to
introduce
some
distinguished
guests
who
have
joined
us
this
morning.
First
of
all,
Eric
next
we're
pleased
to
be
joined
by
members
of
our
Board
of
Education
president
Joanna
Tobin.
A
Superintendent
Dr
Mark
Bedell
could
not
be
here
today,
but
we're
pleased
to
have
Deputy
superintendent,
Monique
Jackson
with
us
I'm
here
to
officiate
this
morning
ceremony
Clerk
of
the
Circuit
Court
Scott
poyer,
we're
also
joined
by
two
former
student
members
of
the
board.
Who've
come
back
to
celebrate
a
half
a
century
of
student
leadership.
A
Please
welcome
the
very
first
student
member
of
the
board
and
the
only
smob
ever
from
Andover
High,
School,
Jeffrey
Robinson,
and
also
with
us
1994-95
student
member
of
the
board,
and
the
only
person
ever
to
be
a
student
and
an
adult
member
of
the
board
Terry
Gillen
from
North
County
High
School.
A
Thank
you
all
for
being
here.
Anne
Arundel,
County,
Public
Schools
is
proud
and
honored
to
continue
to
be
the
only
local
school
system
in
the
country.
With
a
student
board
member
who
has
full
voting
rights,
it
was
1974
when
Mr
Robinson
became
the
first
student
member
to
sit
on
this
board
and
while
he
served
in
an
advisory
capacity,
he
began
what
has
been
an
outstanding
Legacy
of
student
service
and
advocacy.
So
it's
only
appropriate.
We
begin
today
by
hearing
some
brief
remarks
from
Mr
Robinson.
B
B
So
much
has
happened
since
that
time
back
when
this
all
began,
we
as
students
fought
over
the
major
issues
of
the
day,
smoking
areas
in
order
to
keep
students
out
of
the
bathrooms,
defining
students,
rights
and
responsibilities,
which
had
to
be
reduced
to
a
very
formally
printed
board
approved
document,
and
then
we
struggled
to
provide
driver's
ed
to
all
students
as
part
of
the
normal
curriculum.
Of
course,
there
were
some
other
major
issues
going
on.
At
that
time
we
had
Richard
Nixon
Watergate.
B
B
B
Somehow
we
got
through
the
politics
and
moved
on
to
where
we
are
today
now
I
have
to
tell
you
that
nowadays,
I'm
very
impressed
with
the
entire
election
method
that
you've
got
going.
You've
got
nominations,
you've
got
Town,
Halls,
you've
got
an
overall
voting
process
that
involves
a
much
broader
swath
of
of
individuals
and
I.
Think
that
that
is
very
impressive.
B
B
We've
resolved
that
issue
a
long
time
ago.
It
was
purged
through
what
I
consider
to
be
the
continuous
effort
of
49
predecessors
that
you
now
are
following
in
the
footsteps
of
each
of
them
was
able
to
bring
a
sense
of
intelligence,
professionalism
and
insightfulness
all
while
applying
their
own
personality
and
perspectives
to
the
job.
B
Instead,
it's
a
member
of
the
board,
just
like
any
other
and
with
the
unique
perspective
of
a
student
to
carry
with
it.
That
is
what
will
set
you
apart
from
many
others
across
this
country,
who
sought
to
try
to
duplicate
what
we
have
here
in
Anne,
Arundel,
County
and
I.
Think
you're
going
to
measure
up
to
that
challenge.
Eric
I
am
certain
you'll
work
hard
and
do
a
very
commendable
job
and
I'd
also
I'm
also
sure
that
it'll
you'll
do
what
it
takes
to
honor,
both
your
school.
B
C

D
Good
morning,
everyone
thank
you
all
for
being
here
today.
I
know
it's
very
early
in
the
morning,
so
I
appreciate
you
all
getting
up
extra
early
to
be
here
with
me.
Firstly,
I
would
like
to
thank
the
students
of
Anne
Arundel
County
for
placing
their
trust
in
me
to
serve
as
their
represent
representative
on
the
board
of
education.
D
My
love
for
learning
I
would
be
remiss
if
I
didn't
mention
two
special
people
who
have
been
influential
in
my
leadership
and
advocacy
Journey
as
a
freshman
in
high
school
I
had
no
idea
what
I
wanted
to
do,
but
joining
student
government
and
meeting
Miss
Christina
Bowman
changed
everything
for
me.
She
took
a
chance
on
me
and
appointed
me
to
serve
on
our
schools
SGA
executive
board.
Despite
my
lack
of
experience,
which
was
the
start
of
my
journey
throughout
high
school.
D
D
Each
student
has
a
unique
story
and
I
plan
to
use
those
experiences
to
help
guide.
My
decisions
on
the
board
I
am
honored
to
serve
as
the
50th
student
member
of
the
Board
of
Education
joining
a
line
of
extraordinary
young
leaders
who
each
positively
impacted
our
school
system.
I
am
excited
to
follow
suit
and
work
to
ensure
excellence
in
education
for
all
of
our
students.
Thank
you
again.
Everyone
for
coming
out
this
morning
and
I
hope
you
have
a
great
rest
of
your
day.
