We
have
two
recognitions
this
evening
and
the
first
will
be
presented
by
carolyn
mccurdy.
C
C
Despite
multiple
snow
delays,
including
a
major
blizzard,
a
dedicated
group
of
volunteers,
u.s,
marines
and
bwi
employees
helped
to
organize
these
gifts
on
pallets
load
them
onto
trucks
and
deliver
them
to
schools
throughout
the
northern
areas
of
our
county.
In
addition
to
the
deliveries
three
lucky
schools
were
visited
by
representatives
from
the
u.s
marines
and
the
airport.
C
You
may
recall,
seeing
mr
ricky
smith,
ceo
of
the
airport
and
captain
pete
smith,
from
the
u.s
marine
corps
on
wbal-tv,
as
they
greeted
students
from
van
bucklan
elementary
before
airport
employees
and
marines,
handed
out
the
creativity
totes
to
each
student
at
an
assembly
for
the
primary
grades.
Following
that
visit.
Captain
smith
and
kim
davidson
of
bwi
also
personally
delivered
these
gifts
to
our
students
at
marley,
glenn
and
ruth
parker
eason.
C
In
addition
to
the
creativity
totes,
toys
for
tots
has
also
provided
hundreds
of
batteries
to
marley
glenn
to
power
equipment
there
with
additional
deliveries
scheduled
for
our
other
special
centers.
As
mr
fennessy
and
captain
smith
come
forward.
Please
join
me
in
thanking
them
not
only
for
their
part
in
this
winner's
delivery
of
toys,
but
in
the
many
ways
both
have
actively
supported
our
schools
and
been
partners
in
the
education
of
students
throughout
anne
arundel
county.
C
E
Good
evening,
I'm
lucia
martin
coordinator
of
school
counseling,
and
I
have
the
pleasure
of
introducing
this
evening's
second
board
recognition,
members
of
the
board
and
dr
orlano.
For
the
past
few
years,
our
school
system
has
established
for
secondary
counselors,
a
goal
to
increase
scholarship
opportunities
for
graduating
seniors,
we're
pleased
to
say
that
scholarship,
money
for
anne
arundel
county
public
school
students
increased
by
18
million
dollars
last
year
over
the
year
before
to
over
154
and
a
half
million
in
offers.
E
E
Southern
high
school
student
autumn
jackson
claimed
one
of
the
1
000
prestigious
gates
millennium
scholarships
awarded
annually
by
the
bill
and
melinda
gates
foundation.
She
is
one
of
only
25
such
scholarships
awarded
to
maryland
students
this
year,
and
this
marks
the
fifth
straight
year
that
our
county
has
had
at
least
one
recipient.
E
Part
of
the
reason
for
the
increases
I
spoke
of
a
minute
ago
has
been
our
counselor's
enhanced
involvement.
The
process,
rather
than
just
telling
the
students
how
to
apply
for
scholarships
our
counselors
have
helped
them
fill
out.
Applications
showed
them
how
to
follow
up
in
the
process
and
given
them
advice
on
which
scholarship
programs
work
best
for
their
educational
goals.
Quite
simply,
we're
much
more
hands-on
these
days
in
assisting
our
students
with
college
tuition
costs
increasing
each
year.
Each
dollar
we
help
find
in
scholarship.
E
E
E
A
A
F
Yes,
thank
you,
the
lengths
to
which
our
people
go
to
help
children
is
truly
amazing,
and
I
have
something
tonight
that
showcases
a
story
that
shows
that
brilliantly
peter
joshnegg
is
an
old
mill,
high
school
junior,
who
has
overcome
ewing
sarcoma
and
is
now
recovering
from
chemo
treatments
for
leukemia,
which
is
thankfully
in
remission
peter,
has
had
home
and
hospital
teaching.
But
thanks
to
our
team
in
technology
provided
a
and
technology
excuse
me
provided
by
double
robotics.
F

F
A
I
G
J
G
K
I
What
all
was
involved
in
getting
this
set
up?
How
how
difficult
was
this
for
the
team
to
get
this
set
up
for
florida?.
L
From
the
office
of
instructional
technology
and
mary
talar
and
I
were
at
msde-
and
we
saw
this-
and
we
said
we
just
have
to
bring
it
down
around
the
county
public
schools
we
have
to
so
con
with
contact
with
colleen
patrick,
and
I
colleen
told
us
about
peter
and
the
three
of
us
went
out
to
old
mill
and
everybody
was
on
board,
I'm
going
to
say
the
principal
there,
all
the
teachers
they
were.
L
They
were
just
so
happy
to
provide
this
for
him
and
from
then
on
now
there
was
some
orchestration
we
had
to
you
know
who
was
going
to
pick
him
up
in
the
morning
and
who
was
going
to
lock
the
robot
up
at
night
that
type
of
stuff.
He
was
going
to
walk
down
the
hallway
with
him
and
carry
him
up
and
down
the
steps
and
things
of
that
nature,
so
that
took
a
little
bit
of
orchestration
but
other
than
that
patrick
went
out
and
talked
with
the
teachers
and
patrick.
M
M
Basically,
we
had
a
couple
communications.
Over
a
couple
of
days,
I
went
into
old
mill
met
with
the
team
that
they
had
assembled
showed
them
the
operation
of
the
robot.
One
of
the
things
is
very
user
friendly,
the
entire
software
behind
its
web
base.
So
it
was
very
easy
for
both
peter
to
pick
up
and
for
the
team
to
understand
the
basic
operations
of
it.
I'd
say
it
probably
took
about
an
hour
and
a
half
for
them
to
hash
out
kind
of
all.
The
itemized,
like
stephanie
mentioned,
where
it's
going
to
be
stored.
M
M
Yeah
jake
is
able
to
carry
peter
from
upstairs,
probably
only
you
said,
he
could
lift
you
anyway,
right.
M
So
it's
very
easy
for
him
to
be
mobile
and,
like
I
said
you
had
an
extremely
willing
and
competent
team
that
was
able
to
come
together
to
set
everything
in
motion
and
one
of
the
things
that
I'll
say
that
the
team
at
old
mill
has
very
been
instrumental
in
is
that
you
know
when
we
can
bring
in
more
of
these
when
we
need
to
deploy
this
again
in
you
know,
in
colleen's
realm
we
have
a
framework
now
that
can
be
replicated
very
easily,
and
it
didn't
take
that
long
honestly
to
put
together.
I
L
So
the
cost
of
the
robot,
including
the
ipad
in
all
assemblies,
is
about
3
500.
and
I
can
like
colleen
talk
about.
F
Peter
thank
you.
Thank
you
for
spending
some
time
with
us
this
evening.
We
are
delighted
that
you're
back
in
class
that
you're
back
with
your
teachers
that
you're
back
with
your
classmates
and
roaming,
the
hallways
of
old
mill.
But,
more
importantly,
we
are
delighted
that
you're
in
recovery
and
that
we
can't
wait
until
you
are,
we
can
send
marvin
on
for
somebody
else
to
use
and
you're
physically
back
in
the
building
with
us.
G
I
So
last
month
we
had
a
great
presentation
on
how
aacps
is
supporting
our
students
paths
to
college
and
careers,
and
it
was
such
an
impressive
array
of
programs
and
variety
of
options
that
we
have
for
our
kids.
And
since
that
presentation,
I've
had
the
pleasure
of
being
part
of
the
recognitions
for
a
whole
range
of
those
career
readiness
options.
I
First,
at
the
student
recognition
program
for
completers
at
cat
south
and
then
for
the
it3
program,
in
conjunction
with
anne
arundel
county
and
with
north
county
high
school
and
anne
arundel
community
college,
and
it
was
so
impressive
to
be
with
all
these
kids
and
celebrate
what
they've
done.
I
mean
cat
south.
We
had
certified
nursing
assistants
and
cert.
I
You
know,
beginning
electricians
and
cisco,
certified
computer
programmers
and
all
of
these
kids
that
are
ready
to
hit
the
ground
running,
just
a
huge
congratulations
to
all
those
students
and
their
teachers
and
and
the
staff
of
aacps
for
creating
such
innovative
great
programs.
That
gives
them
all
such
a
heads
up
with,
with
what
they're
doing
and
so
I've
thoroughly
enjoyed
them.
Looking
forward
to
all
the
other
graduation
ceremonies
coming
up
and
seeing
and
hearing
where
all
these
kids
are
going
to
be
going.
Q
On
may
5th,
I
had
the
opportunity
to
congratulate
181
elementary
student
researchers
at
the
elementary
science
and
engineering
fair.
It
was
a
really
really
exciting
night
to
see
all
181
third
through
fifth
graders,
be
so
excited
about
their
science,
fair
projects.
I
just
wanted
to
say
a
special
kudos
to
miss
leskin
and
miss
espinoza
and
terry
showers
and
valerie
wesner
for
coordinating
that
effort
through
our
science
office.
Well
done,
it
was
really
exciting.
A
Q
F
Yes
ma'am.
Thank
you.
I
had
a
very,
very
unique
opportunity
to
attend
the
graduation
of
our
work
study
students
at
nsa,
and
so
I
do
want
to
thank
our
board
members
as
you
this
time
of
year.
It's
a
busy
time
of
year,
you're
out
many
evenings
and
weekends
attending
as
you've
heard
some
of
these
wonderful
events
as
we
celebrate
our
students
and
our
staffs,
and
this
was
a
particularly
unique.
I've
never
been
to
nsa.
F
It
takes
about
an
hour
and
a
half
to
get
through
the
security,
and
one
of
the
unique
things
is
that
you
have
to
leave
your
cell
phones
in
your
car,
and
so
we've
got
about
a
hundred
students
a
year
that
participate
and
when
you
think
of
work,
study
and
nsa,
you
usually
don't
make
that
connection.
But
they've
got
a
work
study
program.
There's
156
students
involved
in
this
year's
class
that
graduated
today
about
a
hundred
of
those
are
anne,
arundel,
county
students.
There
are
eight
jurisdictions
that
send
students
to
do
work
study
at
nsa.
F
They
have
a
smattering
of
students,
some
of
the
other
seven
we've
got
a
hundred,
and
it
is
amazing
what
these
students
to
listen
to
the
graduates
and
have
them
talk.
They
have
pathways
to
the
community
college.
They
have
pathways
to
four-year
colleges
and
many
of
them
stay
on
and
begin
careers,
and
I
met
a
number
of
people
today
that
began
their
careers
25
and
30
years
ago,
at
nsa.
F
Through
this
work
study
program,
it
was
wonderfully
unique
to
see
our
students
involved
in
that
and
to
think
that
our
students
able
to
take
advantage
of
these
are
students
that
are
doing
this.
Work.
Study
and
they've
cleared
the
highest
level
of
clearance
security
clearance
to
get
into
nsa
every
day,
including
the
polygraph,
not
an
easy
task
for
any
of
us,
let
alone
high
school
students.
So
I
am
was
incredibly
impressed
and
glad.
F
I
took
the
opportunity
to
be
away
from
my
cell
phones
for
several
hours,
but
to
really
celebrate
what
these
students
have
done,
because
it
is
absolutely
a
unique
experience
that
very
few
students
in
the
state
let
alone
around
the
country
would
have
an
opportunity
to
do
so.
I
was
delighted
to
do
that
today.
H
Terry
and
I
had
an
opportunity
this
week
of
going
and
visiting
the
upcoming
monarch
school,
which
is
the
partnership
between
the
public
school
and
the
monarch
school,
which
is
going
to
be
located
in
where
the
capital
newspaper
used
to
be
so,
we
are
looking
forward
to
basically
the
new
principle
was
appointed
today
correct,
not
not
yet
soon.
Yes,
we
have
to
do
it
today
and
basically
it
would
be
a
great
great
help
for
our
school
system.
Elementary
school
systems
here
in
annapolis,.
I
I
forgot
to
mention-
and
I
see
mr
hamlin,
so
I
need
to
mention
it
that
I
went
to
the
ffa
banquet
at
southern
high
school
a
couple
weeks
ago,
and
what
a
neat
group
of
kids
and
they're
so
enthusiastic
about
the
program
and
miss
m,
who
I
can't
pronounce
her
name,
because
it's
one
of
those
names
that
has
one
vowel
and
about
10
consonants
in
it.
But
they
call
her
miss
m.
Miss
m.
I
B
I've
had
to
spend
the
last
week,
or
so
with
a
bunch
of
grown-ups,
it's
not
as
much
fun
as
hanging
with
the
kids,
but
I
it
was
very
a
very
wonderful
evening,
saturday
night,
I
guess
after
I
dropped
my
daughter
off
for
her
prom.
The
anne
arundel
county
muslim
council
had
invited
some
of
us
to
come
to
their
annual
dinner.
It
was
just
a
lovely
celebration
and
we
got
to
see
aisha,
our
former
board
member
who
was
back
from
college,
so
it
was
great
to
catch
up
with
her.
B
B
Dr
olato
was
at
the
one
in
north
county
and
we
both
went
to
the
council,
but
I
looked
around
the
room
when
I
was
sitting
in
the
annapolis
high
school
auditorium,
and
it
was
just
so
impressive
to
see
a
room,
an
auditorium
that
size
packed
out
with
our
citizens,
most
of
whom
are
there
to
advocate.
For
things
for
the
public
schools-
and
it
was
just
a
beautiful
vision
to
see
everybody
come
together
as
a
community
and
help
each
other
advocate
for
the
things
they
feel
are
important
for
our
system.
B
I
did
get
to
go
to
chesapeake
high
school.
There
were
some
students
that
were
raising
money
for
pancreatic
cancer
with
their
chick-fil-a
leadership
program.
So
they
asked
me
to
be
a
guest
judge
and
I
promised
I
would
give
a
shout
out
to
spence
and
matt's
spicy
chili.
They
were
my
favorite
and
they
turned
out
to
be
the
the
best
chili.
They
won
the
whole
contest
and
they
told
me
they
just
threw
a
bunch
of
stuff
together
in
a
pot
and
it
worked,
I'm
not
sure
they
can
recreate
their
recipe.
N
Thank
you.
Madam
president.
I
just
wanted
to
extend
thanks
to
the
congregation
at
fresh
start
in
glen
burnie
for
hosting
the
board
of
education.
Last
week,
mrs
burge,
mrs
sasso,
mrs
hummer
and
I
had
the
privilege
of
being
there.
I
think
it
was
three
and
a
half
hours
by
the
time
we
left,
but
it
was
a
great
opportunity
to
talk
with
the
community
about
many
issues
impacting
the
school
system,
and
I
I
found
it
to
be
very
beneficial.
I
think
all
of
us
did
so.
Thank
you
for
that.
R
R
R
I'm
inclined
to
think
that
this
indica
indicative
of
how
much
we
enjoy
the
crash
experience
instead
of
moving
on
students,
would
prefer
to
continue
their
service.
This
has
been
an
extremely
interesting
school
year
for
us
because
we
have
had
so
many
unique
opportunities
as
leaders.
Some
of
our
most
compelling
causes
this
year
have
been
teacher
compensation,
student
board
student
board,
member
voting
rights
for
other
counties
and
transgender
issues.
R
It
looks
like
that
step
increases
a
pretty
distinctive
possibility.
At
this
time,
governor
hogan
signed
the
bill
to
expand
voting
rights
in
montgomery
county,
bringing
them
even
closer
to
full
and
equal
vote
on
their
board,
and
just
this
week
the
u.s
department
of
education
issued
a
memo
regarding
the
education
record
of
transgender
students.
R
It
is
wonderful
to
be
a
part
of
a
youth
movement
and
actually
see
the
change
happening
while
I'm
not
seeking
re-election.
I
plan
on
working
with
the
crafts
exec
staff
to
address
next
year's
central
issue.
Equity
students
seeking
office
for
next
year's
offices
are
president
scott
howarth
is
running
unopposed.
R
Her
first
vice
president
alex
mcgrath
and
jacob
baumgardt.
Her
second
vice
president,
christina
dyson
and

K
Could
you
tell
us
what
your
plans
are
for
the
future.
R
Well,
besides
serving
as
co-chair
for
the
crafts
executive
equity
committee
next
year,
I'm
also
pursuing
internships,
I'm
looking
for
the
nsa
job
as
well,
and
I
seem
to
work
in
the
government
as
well.
I'm
also
really
interested
in
doing
varsity
wrestling.
I've
always
wanted
to
have
a
varsity
letter
and
working
towards
that
has
been
my
goal
since
freshman
year,
and
I
really
want
to
do
that.
Like
I've
been
a
mover,
my
whole
life
doing
different
things,
and
student
government
is
just
one
door
that
I've
opened
and
I'm
trying
to
keep
it
open.
R
A
S
During
this
past
month,
we've
had
opportunities
to
stand
in
unity
with
other
stakeholders
who,
along
with
us,
support,
encourage
and
speak
on
behalf
of
our
80
000
students
in
anne
arundel
county
public
schools.
Pta
was
a
strong
force
at
both
of
the
county
council.
Public
budget
hearings
may
9th
and
may
12th.
S
We
were
particularly
impressed
by
the
collective
passion
of
the
three
students
representing
krask
scott
howarth,
jacob
baumgardt
of
vereno,
high
school
and
christina
dyson
of
north

high
school
at
the
may
9th
meeting,
and
the
number
of
elementary
school
students
who
spoke
on
behalf
of
their
schools
and
programs.
But
unfortunately,
I
didn't
get
their
names
on
may
12th
from
elementary
to
high
school.
S
A
week
later,
vanessa
presented
the

honor
of
one
of
our
former
deputy

to

on
monday
may
16th.
At
our

We
hope
you've
had
the
opportunity
to

P
Doctor
lotto
president
corbilock
and
members
of
the
board,
my
name
is
gail
cicero
and
I'm.
The
director
of
student
services,
katherine
gray,
clinical
director
of
the
anne
arundel
county
mental
health
agency
and
dr
pamela
brown
executive
director
of
the
partnership
for
youth
and
families,
are
here
tonight
to
provide
a
brief
overview
of
a
four-year
grant.
They
received
related
to
substance,
abuse
and
mental
health
services.
P
Many
elements
of
the
grant
support
our
work
with
children
and
families,
and
their
response
to
our
youth,
presenting
with
serious
crisis
is
unmatched.
Their
efforts
allow
more
children
to
be
stabilized
within
their
respective
communities
so
that
they
can
more
fully
participate
and
benefit
from
school.
P
T
Good
evening,
superintendent,
madam
president,
and
board
members,
I'm
delighted
to
be
here
this
evening
to
talk
to
you
about
the
respond
grant.
The
respond
grant
is
actually
a
collaboration
between
my
agency,
which
is
the
partnership
for
children,
youth
and
families
and
the
anne
arundel
county
mental
health
agency
and
the
public
school
system.
Dr
gail,
cicero
has
been
a
wonderful
partner
to
us
in
this
initiative
and
we're
very
excited
to
talk
about
it
this
evening.
So
what
is
the
respond
grant
and
why
is
it
important?
T
Over
the
last
four
or
five
years,
we
have
seen
a
rather
large
increase
in
children's
behavioral
health
issues.
We
measure
that
best
by
the
way
children
turn
up
in
the
public
health
system.
It's
very
hard
to
know,
what's
happening
in
the
private
health
system,
but
we
do
have
good
numbers
in
the
public
health
system
and
you
should
be
able
to
see
from
the
slide
that
we
are
seeing
increases
at
least
over
three
years
now,
and
that
trend
is
continuing
upward.
T
T
We
know
from
talking
to
your
staff
actually
that
behavioral
health
is
an
increasing
issue
in
kindergarten
classrooms
and
there's
been
an
increase
in
the
use
of
emergency
room
visits
and
inpatient
hospitalizations
for
all
our
youth
there's
a
whole
set
of
ideas
about
what's
going
on,
and
why
there's
a
lot
of
research
being
done?
There's
a
lot
of
theories,
there's
certainly
much
more
stress
for
families,
we're
seeing
more
poverty
for
families
and
increasing
gap
between
rich
and
poor.
T
There's
lots
of
suspicions
about
the
use
of
technology
and
what
that
does
to
social
and
emotional
skills
for
children,
the
amount
of
time
that
parents
spend
using
technology
rather
than
making
eye
contact
and
cuddling
and
loving
their
children.
So
there's
lots
of
research
going
on
about
that.
The
truth
is
what
we
know
by
our
numbers
is
that
there
is
an
increase
in
behavioral
health
issues
and
it's
the
highest
at
those
early
stages.
T
So
it's
really
to
enhance
the
existing
county
crisis
system,
we're
very,
very
lucky
here
in
the
county,
adrian
michler
who's,
the
head
of
the
anne
arundel
county,
mental
health
agency
and
catherine
gray,
who's.
The
clinical
director
have
worked
very
hard
over
a
number
of
years,
now,
honestly,
really
putting
a
whole
set
of
bits
of
monies
together
to
build
the
best
crisis
response
system
in
the
state.
It's
mobile,
it's
instant,
and
it
is
the
the
celebration
for
us
here
in
the
county
and
everyone's
jealous
of
it.
T
So
we
wanted
to
enhance
that
system
specifically
for
our
young
people
and
specifically
for
the
public
school
system,
given
what
we
knew
about
what
was
happening
with
numbers.
So
the
goals
of
the
project
are
in
to
increase
the
coordination
of
services
for
children
and
youth
decrease
the
number
of
youth
being
placed
outside
of
their
home,
because
we
know
that
when
children
go
into
residential
care,
it
is
not
a
good
thing
for
them,
it's
much
healthier
for
them
their
families
and,
frankly,
for
the
school
system.
T
T
We're
going
to
be
able
to
offer
respite
for
families
to
reduce
the
number
of
crises.
What
we
know
about
families
who
are
dealing
with
mental
health
issues
is
extremely
strenuous,
and
if
parents
can
get
a
little
bit
of
respite,
it
really
helps
them
to
continue
to
manage
their
children
at
home.
We're
expanding
the
in-home
program
for
children.
That
means
clinical
workers
who
go
out
to
the
home
and
work
with
children
and
families
to
try
to
address
mental
health
issues.
T
T
The
additional
mobile
crisis
team
is
aimed
at
the
peak
hours,
and
so
we
can
be
as
responsive
as
we
can
to
school
resource
officers
when
issues
arise.
The
team
immediately
makes
contact
with
the
parent
or
legal
guardian
so
that
we
can
assist
the
youth
and
get
permission
to
do
that.
We
divert
the
student
from
the
emergency
room
where
possible.
We
do
not
want
our
children
and
families
sitting
in
emergency
rooms
waiting
very
long
times
to
see
physicians
and
others.
T
T
U
U
This
is
a
youngster
at
sunset,
elementary
school
who
mobile
crisis
was
called
by
the
principal
the
guardian
had
driven
the
youngster
to
school,
and
the
youngster
was
refusing
to
get
out
of
the
car
school
personnel
had
tried
to
assist
the
guardian.
Getting
the
youngster
out
wasn't
happening.
He
was
escalating.
He
began
hitting
the
guardian
mobile
came
out.
He
initially
did
not
want
to
talk
too
mobile,
but
the
guardian
did.
The
school
personnel
also
did
and
shared
a
lot
of
information,
including
that
the
family
had
been
unable
or
unwilling
to
link
to
mental
health
services.
U
This
youngster
had
had
aggressive
behavior
in
the
school
since
kindergarten
mobile
finally
was
able
to
assess
him
did
get
him
into
the
school
building,
but
that
wasn't
the
end
of
it.
What
mobile
does
after
that
is
the
follow-up
they
go
to
the
family
in
the
evening.
They
make
follow-up
phone
calls.
They
figure
out.
What
are
the
barriers
to
accessing
treatment
and
the
barrier?
In
this
case
there
were
actually
several.
U
U
The
other
piece
of
this
is
that
feedback
to
the
school
system
after
the
visits
mobile
would
go
out
in
the
evening.
Do
some
care
coordination
and
then
give
the
feedback
to
the
school.
This
is
what's
going
on
with
the
family.
It's
been
about
two
months
since
he's
been
followed
up
with
mobile
he's
actually
going
to
school
every
day,
he's
in
therapy
he's
actually
participating
in
therapy,
which
is
really
exciting,
but
that's.
U
These
are
some
very
simple
things
to
do,
but
that
partnership
between
what
happens
during
the
school
day
and
what
happens
in
the
evening
at
home
and
how
that
communication
happens.
That's
something
mobile
can
do.
They're
24
7
365,
a
family
can
always
call
and
they're
always
there
I
do
want
to
share
with
you.
May
is
actually
the
national
mental
health
campaign
matters,
so
we
do
have
little
green
ribbons
for
everyone.
U
F
Thank
you
I
just
for
kathleen
and
dr
brown.
We
we
so
very
much
appreciate
your
partnership
with
us.
We
have
seen
increased
mental
health
needs
for
our
youngest
learners,
many
of
those
in
in
violent
crisis,
and
you
all
have
just
been
partners.
Dr
brown,
you
are
a
gem
and
we
are
delighted
to
have
you
part
of
our
team
joining
with
us
every
day
in
partnership
and
kathleen.
Thank
you
for
your
continued
support
of
our
children.
Thank
you.
B
The
next
portion
of
our
agenda
is
the
public
comment.
Anyone
wishing
to
speak
on
an
item
not
on
today's
agenda
may
offer
testimony
during
this
public
comment.
Portion
of
the
meeting
speakers
will
be
allotted
three
minutes
each
and
the
board
asks
that
comments
remain
civil
and
appropriate
for
the
various
audiences
that
may
be
watching
or
viewing
the
meeting
student
specific
and
personnel
matters
are
confidential
and
cannot
be
discussed
in
this
forum.
This
time
is
intended
for
speakers
to
voice
their
opinion
and
not
necessarily
as
a
question
and
answer
period.
B
O
My
focus
this
evening
was
on
two
issues.
First,
I
did
have
the
opportunity
to
watch
the
presentation
to
this
board
concerning
changes
in
grading
regulations.
I
would
like
to
thank
dr
mcmahon,
dr
cubic
and
all
of
the
stakeholders
who
listen
to
concerns
and
con
suggestions
and
who
work
so
hard
to
help
draft
changes.
I
do
believe
that
the
redo
regulations
as
proposed
will
be
both
beneficial
to
students
who
will
be
charged
with
making
some
very
wise
decisions
about
what
to
redo,
as
well
as
for
teachers
whose
workload
will
be
diminished.
O
I
did
voice
some
concerns
at
the
asi
tax
advisory
group
about
the
50
regulation.
I
understand
that
the
fifty
percent
issue
will
be
the
focus
for
next
year.
The
change
to
percentage
grades
has
opened
up
many
areas
of
concerns.
For
our
students,
teachers
and
administrators,
and
I
would
like
to
respectfully
recommend
that
we
make
sure
that
current
regulations
are
consistently
applied
in
all
schools.
We
continue
to
get
some
reports
to
the
contrary.
O
Current
regulations,
which
do
place
the
burden
on
the
teacher
to
make
a
professional
decision
about
whether
or
not
a
good
faith
effort
was
made
by
the
student
should
be
enforced
and
respected.
Consistency
is
so
important.
I
look
forward
to
future
collaboration
and
I'm
confident
that
it
will
be
beneficial
as
the
changes
proposed
for
the
redo
issue.
O
As
for
the
second
issue,
I
respect
each
and
every
one
of
you,
ladies
and
gentlemen,
for
the
work
that
you
do,
but
yet
I
do
not
envy
your
job,
specifically
the
tough
decisions
that
you
must
now
make
about
compensations
for
teachers
and
staff
for
next
year.
In
earlier
testimony,
I
did
say
to
you
that,
once
you
had
answers
from
the
funding
source
that
you
will
still
have
to
take
a
very
close
look
at
the
budget
to
see
what
you
can
do
to
enhance
the
competition
compensation
for
our
great
teachers.
O
This
year,
teachers
have
realized
the
need
to
advocate
for
themselves
and
their
families.
This
is
evident
in
the
turnout
that
we
have
seen
over
the
course
of
this
year.
It
may
come
down
to
program
versus
teachers,
and
I
respectfully
suggest
to
you
that,
if
it
does,
the
wisest
choice
will
be
to
honor
the
great
teachers
that
we
now
have
by
providing
the
absolute
best
compensation
that
you
can.
O
I
will
be
sending
to
you
in
a
few
days,
an
email,
as
I
always
do,
with
the
minutes
for
the
the
may
11th
meeting,
and
the
email
will
also
include
some
additional
thoughts
and
suggestions
for
your
consideration.
Our
next
meeting
will
be
on
wednesday.
The
8th
of
june
2016
and
attack
officers
on
river
road
at
3,
40
pm
all
are
welcome.
We
will
have
boston
market
food
for
anyone
that
shows
up.
As
I
end,
I
always
give
some
kudos
and
I
have
to
this
evening.
O
It
has
been
a
great
evening
for
me
to
be
here.
I
have
to
say
this
folks
I
would
like
to.
I
originally
had
thought
about
giving
kudos
to
all
of
the
members
of
the
class
of
2016
and
all
of
our
high
schools
for
the
greatness
that
they
have
brought
to
anne
arundel,
county
public
schools
and
certainly
best
of
luck
to
all
of
them.
I
would
also
like
to
extend
congratulations
to
the
young
lady
autumn
jackson
for
an
amazing
award.
O
We've
been
lucky
at
north
kennedy
to
have
some
students
that
have
gotten
that
also
and
then
lastly,
peter
from
oatmeal.
I
admire
so
much
his
courage,
his
enthusiasm
and
his
inspiration.
O
He
said
his
teachers
make
him
want
to
learn,
and
I
think
that
across
the
county
I
think
that's
true
of
all
of
our
teachers,
but
what
he
needs
to
understand.
Peter
needs
to
understand
that
he
makes
me
want
to
teach
a
wonderful
young
man
and,
by
the
way,
dr
aladda.
I
just
thought
I
would
mention
that.
I
understand
that
marvin's
brother
is
available
and,
as
I
get
older,
you
know
might
be
that
I
might
need
that
next
year
and
if
you
could
make
that
happen,
I'd
be
willing
to
call
him.
George.

D
For
the
record
alex
news
chief
operating
officer
director
of
financial
operations,
and
we
simply
wanted
to
orient
it
orient
the
board
to
the
packet
before
them
and
simply
the
cover
sheet,
I
think,
speaks
volumes.
The
first
page
of
the
exhibit
so
over
the
course
of
the
year
we've
accumulated
from
various
sources
as
enumerated
on
that
first
graph,
approximately
13.2
million
dollars,
much
of
it
in
restricted
or
targeted
categories.
Examples
could
be
grant
funds
etc.
D
It's
our
understanding
that
the
agenda
item
will
be
introduced
at
the
next
council
meeting
and
hopefully
voted
the
meeting
after
that,
allowing
us
to
properly
close
out
our
fiscal
year,
2016
books,
both
balanced
by
total
and
balance
within
categories.
V
The
department
of
special
education
department
of
student
services
and
the
office
of
school
performance
spring
policy
jk
to
you
for
first
reading.
This
policy
was
last
updated
february,
15
2006
and
it
establishes
definitions
and
procedures
for
student
behavior
interventions
in
accordance
with
komar.
We
will
post
it
on
our
website
for
30
days
for
public
comment
and
we
welcome
any
questions
you
have
regarding
this
policy
and
regulation.
J
So
I
guess
my
question
is
on
under
procedures.
It's
actually
on
the
regulation
and
it's
about
the
restraint,
part
or
exclusion.
J
So
right
now
it
says
that
each
period
of
exclusion
shall
not
exceed
30
minutes
and
then
it
said
following
each
30
minute
period,
they
would
review
the
ability
to
return
and
that's
been
crossed
out.
So
will
it
still
be
reviewed
every
or
is
it
just
it's
not
a
set
time
at
which
they
would
be.
J
And
in
terms
of
I
mean,
the
physical
restraint
issue
is
one
that
you
hear
about
in
the
news
all
the
time
so
can.
Can
you
explain
how
we
do
it
and
if
this
is
changing
anything
or
just
clarifying
what
our
current
process
is
and
how
we
make
sure
that
our
kids
are
safe
and
not
being
overly
restrained.
W
W
Staff
are
re-certified
every
year
with
a
half-day
training.
This
cpi
is
used
throughout
this
nation.
It's
a
very
it's
the
most
popular
and
well-received
protocol.
We
typically
that
the
bulk
of
cpi
training
95
of
it
is
positive,
behavior
intervention.
It
teaches
instructional
staff
how
to
de-escalate
situations
and
then
the
the
remaining
five
percent
clear
teaches
them
how
to
if
they
have
to
put
hands
on
a
child,
how
to
do
it
safely
to
prevent
harm
to
the
child
or
harm
to
the
adults.
W
W
Had
a
problem,
okay,
but
we
work
very
hard
to
make
sure
that
everyone
that
understands-
and
that's
part
of
the
point
of
the
clarification
here
is
so
that
people
understand
if
I
have
not
been
certified
in
cpi.
I
don't.
I
B
C
Here
this
evening
with
us
teresa,
tudor
senior
manager
of
school
and
family
partnerships,
lauren
gray,
hawkins
business
and
communications,
specialist,
jennifer,
halstead
marketing
and
outreach
specialist
and
sandy
casey
our
grants
technician
as
part
of
the
reorganization.
The
pdm
department
brought
the
well-established
office
of
school
and
family
partnerships
together
with
business
and
community
partnerships,
development,
grants
and
marketing
to
increase
our
opportunities
to
serve
and
support
our
aacps
community.
C
Every
initiative,
event
campaign
and
project
from
our
office
supports
one
overarching
strategy,
and
that
is
cultivating
relationships
that
ultimately
benefit
students.
I
cannot
underscore
the
importance
of
the
relationships
enough.
Dr
arlatto
frequently
talks
about
the
people
and
we
take
that
to
heart
in
our
office
before
providing
you
with
a
glimpse
into
the
work
of
our
office.
It's
important
to
note
that
having
a
focus
on
marketing
in
a
large
public
school
system
is
an
innovative
concept,
as
we
built
the
new
office
hiring
knowledgeable
and
professional
staff
from
both
inside
and
outside
aacps.
C
What
we
found
was
that
this
new
focus
on
marketing
in
aacps
is
not
the
norm
for
public
school
systems,
sure
there
are
individual
schools,
especially
private
schools,
and
those
in
higher
ed
that
have
been
marketing
to
attract
students
and
donors
for
decades,
but
a
system
with
over
one
or
with
three
130
schools
in
education
centers
serving
over
eighty
thousand
students.
There
are
just
not
any
models
out
there,
which
makes
this
journey
all
the
more
exciting.
C
So
when
developing
our
own
strategic
plan
for
partnerships,
development
and
marketing,
we
were
inspired
by
simon
sinek's
ted
talk
about
the
golden
circle,
a
model
for
motivating
others
to
follow.
Your
cause
in
this
popular
video,
mr
cynic,
explains
that
every
single
organization
on
the
planet
knows
what
they
do.
One
hundred
and
some
even
know
how
they
do
it,
but
very
very
few
people
and
organizations
can
explain
what
he
calls
the
why?
C
What
is
your
purpose?
What's
your
belief,
why
should
anyone
care
whether
asking
someone
to
buy
a
product
or
join
a
movement
to
inspire
others?
It's
it's
important
to
communicate
the.
Why,
from
the
inside
out,
so
to
help
our
school
system
identify
and
communicate
the
why
this
board
of
education
and
dr
arlatto
charged
the
new
pdm
department
to
market
the
school
system?
C
Unlike
traditional
marketing
efforts,
we
are
not
trying
to
increase
sales.
Instead,
we
are
cultivating
relationships
that
benefit
our
students,
employees
and
community,
driven
by
cynic's
golden
circle.
Our
work
has
focused
on
forming
an
emotional
connection
between
the
community
we
serve
and
the
school
system
by
putting
a
face
on
the
statistics,
the
scores
and
the
dollars
behind
our
80
000
students.
C
When
we
tell
our
stories,
we
form
a
connection
with
one
another
and
help
the
community
understand
the
reasons
behind
what
we
do
in
the
school
system.
Our.
Why,
when
starting
out
on
this
journey
in
july
2014,
we
mapped
out
our
plans
to
cultivate
the
relationships
that
ultimately
benefit
students,
as
we
developed
a
variety
of
new
tools,
strategies
and
activities
to
tell
our
stories
and
build
relationships.
C
Marketing
and
storytelling
have
been
the
core
of
all
that
we
do.
Initially,
our
efforts
began
with
increasing
awareness
about
the
school
system
and
its
many
programs
initiatives
and
offerings.
We
cannot
expect
others
to
know
the
stories
of
aacps
if
we
don't
know
the
stories
ourselves
launched
in
september
2014.
C
The
monthly
showcase
shares
information
about
the
departments
and
programs
that
serve
students
daily
throughout
the
county.
By
providing
our
various
offices
and
programs
the
opportunity
to
share
information
in
interactive,
interesting
and
sometimes
amusing
ways.
We
are
helping
to
tear
down
the
silos
that
are
commonplace
in
large
organizations
by
customizing
the
marketing
support
we
provide
to
each
monthly
showcase
participant,
including
developing
content
and
social
marketing
campaigns.
C
We
added
the
behind
the
scenes
story
and
video
series
to
take
the
storytelling
deeper
to
a
deeper
level
by
giving
up
close
and
personal
look
at
some
of
the
positions
in
the
county
that
may
not
get
as
much
recognition
as
others
behind
the
scenes
is
widely
shared
with
our
employees
and
is
also
available
to
the
public
through
our
aacps
website
and
aacps
tv,
through
monthly
showcase
and
behind
the
scenes.
We
are
providing
stories
that
can
be
shared
with
colleagues,
friends,
neighbors,
family
and
community
members.
C
C
The
faces
of
aacps
campaign,
which
was
launched
in
mid-february
of
this
year,
encourages
current
and
former
students,
employees,
parents
and
community
members
to
share
their
stories
about
their
experiences
with
the
school
system.
This
provides
an
opportunity
for
anyone
with
a
connection
to
the
school
system,
to
submit
an
article
and
photo
that
will
be
posted
on
the
site.
C
This
site
has
been
visited
over
4200
times
with
some
stories
having
over
700
views,
while
many
of
our
efforts
involve
telling
our
stories
and
sharing
them
out
faces
actually
does
the
reverse.
What
we're
doing
is
creating
a
platform
and
inviting
those
stories
to
come
in
as
the
con.
As
the
campaign
continues
to
grow
in
popularity
and
evolves,
it
will
become
a
searchable
archive
of
our
school
system
successes.
C
C
C
We
consider
it
an
honor
that
our
department
is
responsible
for
managing
the
ex
the
recognition
programs,
such
as
excellence
in
education,
teacher
of
the
year
selection
process
and
event.
The
maryland
state
teacher
of
the
year
program,
the
washington
post,
teacher
and
principal
of
the
year
contest
the
wise
tribute
to
women
in
industry
and
two
business
partner
recognition
programs.
C
C
While
we
continue
to
refine
and
expand
our
storytelling
efforts,
we
also
work
to
build
relationships
to
help
our
parents,
students,
employees
and
community
partners
feel
connected
to
aacps.
Earlier
in
this
presentation,
we
talked
about
the.
Why
and
how
marketing
is
at
the
core
of
everything
that
we
do.
While
we
have
taken
every
opportunity
to
share
our
stories
and
market
aacps
to
our
various
stakeholder
groups,
we
have
also
been
working
to
define
our
aacps
brand.
C
C
Our
brand
can
help
create
a
more
connected
constituency
and
build
invested
relationships
to
identify
the
attributes
that
are
true
to
aacps
and
to
discover
what
our
stakeholders
value
about
us.
We
have
conducted
25
focus
groups
and
met
with
over
150
parents,
employees,
students
and
community
partners
in
the
exploratory
research
phase
of
our
branding
process.
C
Next,
we
will
enter
the
quantitative
research
phase
where
we
will
test
the
attributes,
valued
by
our
focus
group
participants
with
the
greater
anne
arundel
county
community.
Later
we
will
analyze
that
data
to
see
what
resonates
with
the
community
at
large
as
being
important
and
unique.
We
will
then
work
collaboratively
to
identify
the
brand
and
begin
to
develop
strategies
and
tools
to
communicate
and
support
these
qualities
system
while
wide
all
the.
C
While
these
marketing
and
branding
efforts
keep
coming
back
to
the
relationships
we
are
building
and
cultivating
and
the
opportunities
we
are
creating
to
welcome
our
newest
educators
to
aacps
and
introduce
them
to
their
new
community.
We
hosted
the
new
teacher
networking
series,
social
events
that
begin
in
the
summer
and
occur
throughout
the
school
year
to
help
our
new
teachers
feel
more
connected
to
our
school
system
and
to
each
other.
C
Pdm
also
provides
support
to
some
of
our
own
aacps
offices
to
help
them
with
their
marketing
efforts.
We
collaborated
with
the
office
of
equity
and
accelerated
student
achievement
on
their
school
203
initiative
and
with
a
group
of
leadership
development
institute
alumni
who
coordinated
the
first
aacps
speaks
event
at
maryland
hall
through
the
monthly
showcase
and
behind
the
scenes.
We
have
also
worked
with
various
offices
such
as
digital
media
services
and
co-curriculars,
to
help
promote
their
programs.
C
Teachers
are
always
developing
ways
to
engage
their
students
in
pdm.
We
strive
to
engage
our
employees
less
than
one
month
after
the
department
was
established.
The
first
employee
giving
campaign
was
launched
initially
created
to
increase
awareness
for
the
21st
century
education
foundation
and
the
school
systems
programs.
It
has
become
a
way
for
central
and
satellite
employ
satellite
office
employees
to
make
tax-deductible
donations
in
support
of
our
schools,
programs
and
students.
C
C
C
C
C
I
wish
I
could
say
that
we
have
painstakingly
mapped
out
every
our
route
and
every
mile
has
been
planned
to
the
smallest
detail.
While
we
have
been
strategic
in
our
work.
To
be
honest,
some
of
our
terms
have
been
unscheduled
and
we
have
taken
some
detours
along
the
way.
Much
like
a
road
trip,
though
some
of
the
sights
and
experiences
that
were
not
on
our
itinerary,
proved
to
be
the
most
rewarding.
C
B
I
just
had
a
brief
question:
we've
got
so
many
great
stories
to
share.
How
are
we
trying
to
get
those
out
to
the
general
public
to
bring
them
in
you
know
through
the
web.
C
Yes,
so
it's
actually
a
multi-prong
approach
and
we're
very
fortunate
in
our
office
we
have
a
wonderful
relationship
with
the
communications
office.
We
work
very
closely
with
bob
mosher
and
his
team
to
highlight
certain
stories
that
we
want
to
get
out
through
social
media.
So
as
an
example,
we
have
our
faces
of
a
cps
campaign
when
we
get
a
story
in
that,
we
think
is
going
to
have
mass
appeal
or
something
that
might
piggyback
onto
something
else.
That's
going
on,
for
example,
this
month
teacher
appreciation
month.
C
If
we
got
a
really
fantastic
story
in
about
a
teacher,
it
fits
right
in
with
the
the
season
so
to
speak,
so
we
then
work
with
his
office
to
either
tweet
out
or
facebook
out
a
message
with
a
link
to
that
and
then
internally
we're
also
sending
certain
things
out
to
certain
partners.
So
if
we
know,
for
example,
earlier
we
were
talking
about
the
stem
office,
ms
hummer
went
to
visit
old
mail
and
was
talking
about
stem.
We
have
a
list
of
stem
partners.
X
Well,
I
want
to
thank
you
for
all
you
do
and
give
a
shout
out
for
anchors
away.
I
went
I
attended
last
year
and
I
just
signed
up
for
this
year.
I
encouraged
my
fellow
board
members
to
go
out.
I
was
able
to
meet
so
many
business
partners
on
that
boating
event.
It
was
fun,
but
it
was
also
enlightening
and
they
they
really
enjoyed
talking
to
board
members
and
to
interact
and
get
so.
It
was
a
great
event
and
I
would
encourage
everybody
to
sign
up
well.
C
I
want
to,
if
I
could
add
to
that,
and
thank
you
very
much
for
your
participation
last
year.
In
that
event,
what
we're
trying
to
do
is
just
create
some
unique
or
different
events
that
will
appeal
to
different
audiences.
That
particular
event,
as
you
know,
was
really
focused
on
having
a
small
number
of
people
in
a
place
where
they
were
going
to
be
for
two
hours
and
there
was
no
way
of
escaping
early
and
the
networking
opportunities
as
a
result
were
really
rich.
N
Thank
you,
madam
president,
and
thank
you
for
this.
I
almost
am
speechless
that
that
the
presentation
was
that
good,
but
I
I
want
to
want
to
also
extend
the
thanks
to
dr
arlatto.
You
know
just
about
every
one-on-one
that
that
we've
had
I've
asked
about
this,
and
I
know
prior
to
me
coming
here.
The
board
has
really
expressed
an
interest
in
this
with
the
superintendent.
N
N
I
think
we've
been
very
good
consumers
of
information
both
internally
among
the
schools,
as
well
as
external
information
that's
coming
in,
but
I
think
we
just
need
to
be
better
at
being
providers
so
that
we
are
not
letting
and
no
offense
to
our
friends
in
the
media,
but
we're
not
letting
them
tell
our
story,
we're
telling
our
story,
and
I
I
think
other
school
systems
are
going
to
look
at
us,
not
just
in
this
state
but
but
nationally
as
being
the
model
for
this,
I
also,
you
know,
have
to
say
kudos
to
to
our
communications
department.
N
I
think
mr
mosher
and
his
team
are
are
second
to
none
and
I
think
they
do
a
great
job.
N
All
that
being
said,
my
question:
are
we
going
to
get
a
website
that
is
updated
and
puts
us
into
this
decade?.
F
The
answer
is
yes,
and
so
we
are
and
certainly
carolyn
you
can
jump
in,
but
we
are
in
the
process
of
working
through
that
with
a
group
and
a
contract.
We
don't
have
anything
yet
to
bring
forward
to
the
board.
But
the
answer
is
yes:
we're
working
on
moving
to
acps
2.0.
N
I
I
appreciate
that,
because
I
I
think
we
do
a
you
guys,
really
do
a
great
job
on
the
social
media
side.
You
know,
certainly
I
mean
sitting
up
here
and
and
following
twitter
of
things
that
are
happening.
Certainly,
facebook
and
and
others
were
phenomenal
at
that.
I
just
think
the
website
is-
is
still
a
medium,
that's
used
by
it's
cross-generational
and
it's
it's
an
area
of
needed
improvement.
So
I
look
forward
to
to
those
next
steps
and
I
look
forward
to
continuing
to
ask
about
that
as
well.
F
Carolyn,
I
really
do
want
to
thank
you
and
teresa,
and
your
combined
teams
have
just
done
a
phenomenal
job.
There
has
been
a
lot
of
work
in
a
very
short
period
of
time
in
in
less
than
two
years
you
all
have
worked
behind
the
scenes.
Very
few
people
know
the
names
and
faces
and
the
work
that's
going
on
constantly.
F
I
had
no
idea,
as
we
developed
this
vision
for
this
office.
That
involved
me
so
much,
and
so
I
blame
you
for
that.
F
But
you
have
created
avenues
for
us
to
have
those
conversations,
and
I
think
the
first
place
that
we
tell
our
story
is
by
doing
a
fantastic
job
with
our
children
every
day,
and
we
will
continue
to
get
better
at
that,
because
that
is
that
word
of
mouth,
but
one
of
the
things
that
you've
done
is
being
able
to
develop
these
partnerships
with
our
families
and
teresa
and
her
team,
as
well
as
all
of
our
business
partnerships.
Those
folks
are
traveling
in
circles
that
we
in
educators
are
not.
F
So
we
continue
to
tell
our
stories
to
each
other
and
within
our
own
circles,
but
you
have
broadened
our
circles,
and
these
are
folks
that,
as
you
talked
to
as
I
did
today,
people
at
nsa,
who
just
rave
about
our
children
and
how
amazing
they
are,
and
those
folks
at
nsa,
are
traveling
in
circles
that
I
don't
or
really
am
not
allowed
to,
and
they
spread
the
good
word
of
this
school
system
and
the
amazing
things
we
do
on
behalf
of
children
so
so
know
that
we
appreciate
you
and
teresa,
and
your
teams
appreciate
so
much
the
work
that
you're
doing.
