meeting
recap:
where
we'll
give
you
a
brief
rundown
of
the
board's
most
recent
actions
and
what
happened
at
the
sep
tember
16th
board
of
education
meeting
just
in
case
you
missed
it.
After
receiving
the
superintendence
recommendations
participating
in
a
workshop
and
holding
a
public
hearing
for
the
fiscal
year,
2017
capital
budget
request
six-year
plan
and
state
capital
improvement
plan.

The
board
unanimously
voted
to
submit
the
150
9.9
million
dollar
budget
and
plans
to
the
state's
interagency
committee
for
school
construction
which
oversees
school
construction
funding.
Allotments
the
capital
budget
recommendation
allocates
nearly
seventy
four
point:
six
million
dollars
for
existing
renovation
projects
at
Severna,
Park,
High,
School
and
manner
View
High,
Point,
George,
Cromwell,
Jessup
and
Arnold
elementary
schools.
The
plan
also
includes
6.7
million
dollars
for
design
funding
of
a
new
high
school
in
the
crofton
area,
all
were
among
the
highest
priority
schools
listed
in
the
MGT
study.

addition,
dr.,
a

Rose
request
includes
10
million
dollars
for
pre-kindergarten
and
kindergarten
additions
at
odenton
Woodside
and
north
glen
elementary
schools,
10
million
dollars
for
gymnasium
editions,
at
wit,
side
and
Millersville
elementary
schools
and
7
million
dollars
for
open
space
enclosures
at
Chesapeake
high
school.
The
board
will
take
up
the
fiscal
year
capital
budget
again
when
the
superintendent
reveals
his
recommendation
for
the
fiscal
year
2017
operating
budget
in
December
in
policy
news.
A
The
Board
of
Education
is
now
accepting
public
comment
on
a
new
policy
and
regulation
that
would
replace
the
current
high
school
semester
exams
with
more
timely
quarterly
assessments
a
year
in
the
making
School
System
officials
believe
the
policy
is
intended
to
allow
us
to
implement
a
more
effective
approach
to
teaching
and
learning
and
to
better
meet
the
instructional
needs
of
students
and
reduce
the
amount
of
tests.
Children
must
take.
The
proposal
suggests
administering
quarterly
assessments
which
reflect
material
covered
during
a
given
amount
of
time
to
students
in
grades
3
through
12.

normal
class
periods,
input
from
a
variety
of
student,
parent
and
teacher
groups
was
used
to
develop
the
proposal.
The
policy
known
as
iih
and
its
accompanying
administrative
regulation,
I
IHRA,
are
posted
on
the
policy
page
on
the
school
system
website.
The
public
can
also
provide
input
on
the
policy
page
up
until
mid-october.

board
will
review
the
proposal
twice
more
before
voting
on
it.
