B
And
welcome
to
the
Anne
Arundel
County
Public
Schools
digest
bringing
you
news
about
the
people
and
programs
event:
Arundel
County
Public
Schools,
thousands
of
County
students
from
all
grade
levels
at
31
schools
recently
celebrated
computer
science
education
week
by
participating
in
the
statewide
and
worldwide
hour
of
code
challenge
to
promote
computer
programming.

Was
a
time
I
suppose
when
mastering
reading
and
math
was
enough
for
our
kids
to
get
decent
jobs
and
in
the
economy,
but
now
they
increasingly
need
higher
levels
of
skills,
and
this
movement
is
a
really
positive
one
in
Maryland
that
the
business
community
has
been
lockstep
with
us
and
bringing
to
our
classrooms.
Governor.

D
Might
sound
technical
but
I
want
to
be
a
database
administrator
which
basically
means
I,
backup
data
for
companies
or
I,
create
websites
for
people
and
even
create
games
as
a
hobby
for
the
hour
of
code,
I
kind
of
did
my
own
little
thing
on
the
website.
I'm
trying
to
learn
a
language
called
JavaScript
for
creating
animations
and
logic
and
websites
and
I'm
actually
still
doing
that
right
now,

B
E
Of
the
things
we
have
to
do
for
children
to
make
sure
that
they're
learning
is
relevant
and
show
them
how
it
really
is
implemented
in
their
lives.
Why
it's
important
so
to
have
someone
like
the
president
of
the
electronics
division
at
Northrop,
Grumman
and
the
governor
come
out
and
give
them
not
only
acknowledgment
but
support
to
continue
growing
their
program
and
to
also
personify?
This
is
who
you
could
be
if
you
really
engage
in
this
work
and
learn
as
much
as
you
can
is
hugely
important
to
students,
because
it
makes
it
real
for
them.

The
Maryland
State

a

every

has
at

School
with
the
most
engaging
implementation
of
hour
of
code
activities
could
also
win
ten
thousand
dollars
in
classroom
technology
from
national
nonprofit
co.org,
which
offers
the
award
to
one
school
in
each
state

for
international
participants.
The
initiative
aims
to
reach
100

people
around
the

During
a
five-day
period.
During
the
thanksgiving
holiday,
all
secondary
schools
were

to
conserve

by
unplugging
most

part
of
the

Boys
and
girls
have
been
working
so
hard
for
so
many
years
and
have
really
put
in
so
much
effort,
and
our
scores
have
proven
us
out
time
and
time
again.
Our
parent
population
works
so
hard
and
they're
very
dedicated
and
supportive.
Our
teachers
are
simply
amazing
and
they
give
of
themselves
every
day
and
our
entire
community
supports
us
and
everything
we
do.
Student.
B
Achievement
is
the
norm
at
suvarna,
Park
Elementary
School,
as
more
than
ninety
eight
percent
of
its
students
scored
proficient
or
advanced
in
reading
and
math
on
the
2013-14
Maryland
School
assessments.
Such
student
performance
places
the
school
among
the
top
five
percent
in
the
state,
a
status
the
school
has
maintained
for
the
last
seven
years.
Our.
Q
School
does
so
many
different
things,
I
mean
the
students
here
they
work
so
hard.
We've
been
to
so
many
different
professional
development,
so
many
different
incentives,
different
initiatives
so
I'm
just
I,
couldn't
tell
you
how
late
it
I
was
yesterday
to
be
in
that
meeting
when
they
announced
it.
Suvarna.

Park
Elementary
is
one
of
the
oldest
schools
in
the
state,
with
a
long-standing
tradition
of
exemplary
teaching,
staffs
community
support
and
a
dynamic
PTA.
Its
robust
volunteer
program
is
involved
at
every

B
A
surprise
announcement,
lakeshore
Elementary
School,
was
recently
named
a
2015
Maryland
blue
ribbon
school
of
excellence
by
the
Maryland
State
Department
of
Education
principal
Linda.
To--The
was
joined
by
several
school
system
staff
members
for
the
announcement
by
State
Superintendent
of
Schools,
dr.
Lillian
Lowery
in
Baltimore.
This.
R
Is
such
a
true
testament
to
the
commitment
of
all
of
my
teachers?
I
am
so
proud
of
them.
My
faculty,
my
students,
who
work
so
hard
every
day
and
I
know
that
my
teachers
go
above
and
beyond,
and
it's
so
nice
that
they
get
recognized
for
all
of
their
hard
work
and
all
of
the
hard
work
that
our
students
do
on
top
of
it.
So
I'm
so
proud
of
them,
and
it's
just
very
exciting
that
they
finally
get
to
see
something
from
all
that
hard
work
that
they've
been
doing
through.
B
A
kid's
first
philosophy,
lakeshore
Elementary
School,
is
one
of
five
arts
integration
focus
schools
in
the
county
by
taking
a
challenging
and
creatively
enriching
approach.
The
school
has
been
rewarded
with
stellar
student
achievement.
More
than
ninety
six
percent
of
lakeshore
students
scored,
proficient
or
advanced
in
reading
and
ninety-three
percent
hit
the
mark
in
math
on
the
2013-14
Maryland
School
assessments.
There
was
also
no
achievement
gap
with
regard
to
students
receiving
free
and
reduced-price
meals
or
special
education
services.
