FIVE EDUCATORS NAMED FINALISTS FOR AACPS TEACHER OF THE YEAR HONOR

Two high school teachers, a Career Technology Education teacher, a middle school teacher, and an elementary school teacher make up the field of five finalists for 2022 Anne Arundel County Public Schools Teacher of the Year. Superintendent George Arlotto and members of the Board of Education surprised the finalists in their classrooms today to announce the news.

The finalists and the subjects they teach are:

Lacie Harold, instrumental music, Arundel Middle School
Nafeesah Marcellus, third grade, Brock Bridge Elementary School
Charles Whittaker, HVAC, Center of Applied Technology – North
Jennifer Lowe, special education, Crofton High School
Molly Stavely, English, Glen Burnie High School
The following teachers were named finalists for Anne Arundel County Independent Schools Teacher of the Year:

Katie Hansen, fifth grade, Annapolis Area Christian School
Mary Raleigh, math, St. Mary’s High School
The finalists will be among 40 teachers from public and independent schools to be honored on April 26 at the 36th annual Excellence in Education Awards Dinner at The Hall @ Live! at Arundel Mills. This event is hosted by the 21st Century Education Foundation. Tickets and sponsorships may be purchased at https://EiE2022.givesmart.com or by texting EiE2022 to 76278.

Superintendent, george arlatto and members of the board of education and 21st century education foundation made surprise visits to unveil the finalists for the 2022 teacher of the year award that you are.

A teacher of the year finalist so when you get into the classroom- and you see these teachers that are the top of their class right they're chosen by this committee- and they really have built relationships- that's what's really clear- is to see the interactions they have and the love they've got for their children each and every one of them is really pretty. Special. Lowe was a finalist for teacher of the year. Congratulations.

Lacey, harold of arundel middle school, nafisa, marcellus of brockbridge elementary school, charles whittaker of center of applied technology, north jennifer, lowe of crofton, high school and molly stavely of glen burnie high school will be among 40, outstanding educators, honored at the 36th annual excellence in education awards dinner, hosted by the 21st century education foundation.

The foundation is there to support the school system right and so part of supporting the school system. I mean. Obviously, we want to give recognition to the teachers and the personnel in the school system and work so hard to support all of our children. The foundation just feels blessed that I can be a part of this. It's just great to see them receive that recognition and see the joy in their faces absolutely well.

She's been nominated as one of the teachers of the year.

Katie hansen of annapolis area christian school, mrs raleigh, has advanced to the finalist level for teacher of the year and mary raleigh of saint mary's high school are the finalists for the independent schools teacher of the year award. The public schools winner will serve as the county representative for the state teacher of the year honor to be awarded in the fall.
