This
school
was
built
for
them
and
with
this
new
facility
truly
they
have
the
potential
to
reach
their
goals
and
dreams
for
the
future,
no
exceptions.
This
is
a
very
significant
day
in
rich
history
of
our
school,
but
before
we
go
further
in
the
program,
I
want
to
introduce
some
special
guests
who
have
come
to
help
us
celebrate.
C
C
And
thank
you
from
the
bottom
of
my
heart
for
the
support
that
you
have
given
me
throughout
this
whole
process
and
the
trust
so
when
I
was
charged
to
lead
this
school
almost
three
years
ago,
I
had
some
really
big
shoes
to
fill.
This
was
school.
This
school
is
named
after
a
great
man
who
was
the
principal
here
for
46
years.
Mr.
Walter
s,
Mills
parole
in
his
imprint
on
this
school
in
County
is
evident
today.
The
principal
who
preceded
me,
my
own
personal
mentor,
mrs.
C
Alfreda
Adams,
led
this
school
with
sincere
love
and
it
showed
in
everything
she
did.
I
am
so
grateful
that
I
have
been
entrusted
with
this
unique
and
special
opportunity
to
join
a
community
so
rich
in
history.
It
is
my
privilege
to
serve
this
community
and
to
be
part
of
this
milestone
of
our
schools.
Legacy.
I
would
like,
at
this
point,
to
ask
Miss
Mills.
If
you
would
like
to
say
a
few
words
before
you
do
I'd
like
to
note
that
Miss
Mills
has
been
so
awesome.
C
E
Thank
You
mrs.
Myers,
just
a
bit
about
the
lunch,
my
grandson,
who
should
be
here
soon
anyway
said
grandma.
Can
you
come
come
to
school
and
pass
out
the
milk
okay?
So
anyway,
it's
been
fun.
The
last
few
weeks
doing
that
the
pre-k
and
kindergarten
is
I
like
to
thank
miss
Myers
for
allowing
me
to
speak
on
the
behalf
of
my
father
and
the
family.
E
It's
it's
really
phenomenal
to
see
this
building
now
this
building
opened
in
1952,
52,
53
and
I
was
there's
a
picture
somewhere
in
my
house
standing
out
on
the
front
which
I
think
is
back
there
now
at
the
time
it
was
the
front
with
my
little
person,
everything
at
the
opening
day
of
that
building.
So
it's
kind
of
come
full
circle
to
be
here.
E
40
50,
60
some
years
later,
with
the
new
building
totally
I,
am
totally
confused
as
to
where
anything
is
I
think
this
is
really
where
the
auditorium
was
about
in
the
original
building,
but
anyway
I'd
like
to
introduce
a
few
people
of
my
own.
If
you
don't
mind,
my
daughter
and
my
two
grandsons
have
just
arrived
any
other
Mills
family
here,
I
had
some
cousins
who
are
coming,
don't
see
them,
but
they
would
stand
my
daughter,
Irene
and
my
oldest
grandson
Elijah
and
the
one
who's
in
the
54
kindergarten.
E
E
And
I
would
I
would
be
very
remiss
in
not
mentioning
this
lady's
name,
because
she
was
the
one
who
propelled
the
board
to
change
their
law
about
the
time
a
person
had
to
be
deceased
before
a
building
would
be
named
after
them.
She's
a
lawyer.
She
was
major
lawyering.
If
you
will,
then
in
1994
this
is
Miss
all
the
woman
rhonda
Pindell
charles.
Please
stand
up.
E
She
canvassed
the
community
got
petitions
went
before
the
board
on
numerous
occasions,
because
it
was
a
hard
struggle.
Was
it
not
mr.
house,
but
she
persevered
and
the
name
was
changed
the
same
year
that
my
father
passed
I've
seen
it
written.
That
was
three
years
I
thought
at
the
time
it
was
ten
years.
Wasn't
it
they
were
saying
ten,
three
okay,
three,
but
we
went
beyond
that.
So
I
appreciate
that
the
family
appreciates
that.
So
many
of
you
didn't
know
my
mother,
but
once
she
got
started
talking
she
caught
talking.
E
My
father
wasn't
quite
like
that.
So
to
keep
from
boring,
you
I'm
going
to
go
sit
down
now
and
thank
you
all
for
being
here
and
please
continue
to
support
Mills
parole
school.
This
has
a
large
legacy
here
in
this
community,
the
little
red
house
and
then
the
building
is
over
by
up
the
Rosenwald
schools
over
by
Mount
Olive,
and
now
this
wonderful
new
edifice
and
we
thank
everyone
who
helped
this
happen
and
best
of
luck
to
miss
Myers
and
the
rest
of
the
staff
here
at
this
school.
Thank
you
so
much
for
the
opportunity.
E
C
You
Miss
Mills
Cooper
I
cannot
express
how
much
it
means
to
have
your
family
here
with
us
celebrating
today,
as
you
tour
the
building
today,
please
make
sure
you
stop
by
the
front
office.
We
have
a
beautiful
display
of
mr.
Mill's
contributions
to
our
County
and
to
our
state,
and
it's
a
beautiful
written
summary
of
all
the
work
that
he's
done.
So
we
really
want
you
to
make
sure
you
see
that
before
you
leave
mrs.
Adams.
C
So,
as
I
mentioned,
miss
Adams
is
beloved
in
this
community
and
a
highly
respected
educator
about
15
years
ago,
as
I.
Well,
maybe
a
longer
than
that
began.
My
journey
in
administration,
I
was
taking
coursework
in
the
evenings
and
miss
Adams
came
and
presented
at
one
of
my
classes
and
at
that
time
I
was
I'm.
Gonna
drop.
It
I
can't
do
this.
C
C
F
Good
evening,
thank
you,
mrs.
Myers,
to
all
of
the
officials
here
and
the
wonderful
parents.
I
have
to
tell
you.
Nils
Perrault
was
my
second
home
I
loved
every
minute
of
walking
through
those
doors,
because
I
wanted
to
make
a
difference
not
only
for
the
children
but
the
parents
and
the
community
and
the
staff.
F
We
made
a
difference
because
we
all
work
together
as
a
unit
as
a
team
and
as
a
family
retirement
is
good
but
I
truly
miss
the
children,
I
missed
a
community
and
the
staff
I
really
don't
miss.
All
of
the
work
put
that
aside,
but
I
am
truly
honored
this
evening
to
have
the
library
named
after
me.
I
am
totally
in
shock.
F
Education
is
so
important
and
when
the
boys
and
girls
came
to
my
office,
I
always
said:
do
your
best
strive
for
your
goals
and
dreams
never
ever
give
up,
because
you
can
always
be
the
best
of
whatever
you
do
and
I
can
see
that
from
this
building
and
mrs.
Myers
had
her
fingers
all
over
it
that
the
boys
and
girls
will
continue
to
be
kids
at
hope.
So
I
do.
Thank
you.
So
very
very
much
and
I
am
honored.
Thank
you.
C
And
I
would
like
to
thank
her
daughter
amber
for
doing
such
an
awesome
job,
keeping
this
secret
and
making
sure
you
came
tonight
and
keep
you
away
from
the
library
before
you
walked
in.
So
thank
you
as
we
reflect
on
the
importance
of
family
and
legacies.
I
would
like
to
take
this
opportunity
to
recognize
and
thank
my
own
family.
C
They
have
been
incredibly
patient
with
me
very
understanding
of
my
job
and
the
time
that
it
takes
and
they
provide
me
with
so
much
support
and
it's
just
an
honor
that
I
can
actually
say
thank
you
to
them
in
person
and
introduce
them
to
you.
My
husband
Dave
I'd
like
to
introduce
my
husband
Dave
and
my
eldest
son
Daniel,
who
is
now
walking
Rhys
around,
but
my
eldest
son
Daniel,
his
wife
Heather,
and
there
are
three
children,
Juliana,
Cora
and
Rhys.
C
My
son
Andrew
his
wife
Elizabeth
and
their
son
David,
my
daughter,
Abigail,
and
her
boyfriend
Matt
coming
all
the
way
down
from
College
Park
I,
truly
appreciate
each
and
every
one
of
you
and
I.
Just
I
know
that
you
are
always
with
me
and
my
fault
and
I
know
that
I'm
not
always
home,
but
I
do
appreciate
the
encouragement
that
you
give
to
me
and
how
much
you
support
me.
I
can't
give
enough
praise
to
my
staff.
They
are
an
incredible
group
of
educators
who
have
been
so
professional
and
wonderful
throughout
this
whole
process.
C
Doing
everything
they
could
to
make
sure
that
the
integrity
and
instruction
was
maintained
so
that
our
students
remain
safe
and
learning.
Thank
you
so
much
staff.
You
have
been
awesome
for
the
last
for
the
last
two
years,
and
this
is
this
is
not
an
exaggeration.
We
have
been
moving
and
shifting
packing
and
unpacking
and
packing
again
and
with
all
of
the
distractions
that
come
with
being
construction
while
occupation,
they
have
never
done
wavered.
C
They
have
stayed
strong
throughout
the
whole
process
and
you
can
see
it
in
the
the
children
the
children
have
shown,
with
their
smiles
and
continued
learning
that
everything
can
go
on
around
them,
but
yet
they
are
staying
focused
on
their
learning
and
it's
because
of
the
dedication
of
the
teachers,
so
I
appreciate
them
very
much.
It's
important
to
recognize
other
leaders
that
have
been
here
for
the
last
two
years.
I
was
blessed
with
the
privilege
of
working
with
mister
mr.
Walker
mr.
Rodney
Walker.
C
He
was
a
wonderful
assistant
principal
who
was
very
supportive
to
the
team
during
this
whole
process
and
he
left
a
lasting
impression
on
this
school
in
his
two
short
year.
So
I
would
love
to
recognize
him
and
the
support
that
he
gave
us,
and
we
are
so
fortunate
to
have
a
wonderful
new
assistant,
principal
mrs.
ke
Cunningham,
to
our
school
team.
We
are
very
appreciated
of
her
strong,
compassionate
leadership.
C
Our
building
service
workers,
under
the
leadership
of
our
chief
custodian,
miss
Morales,
have
worked
tirelessly
many
weekends
holidays
and
late
evening
hours
over
the
last
two
years
to
support
this
renovation.
Our
secretarial
staff
has
shown
much
dedication
to
the
mills
parole
community
and
they
really
helped
to
keep
us
all
in
line
and
on
track,
and
they
have
been
wonderful.
C
You
are
our
truest
partners,
always
putting
students
first.
Thank
you
and
I'd
like
to
take
a
moment
just
to
briefly
acknowledge
some
other
people
that
took
to
make
it
happen
for
us
here
anytime
that
we
ever
needed
help.
There
was
always
an
army
of
people
to
come
in
and
help,
and
it's
so
appreciative
to
the
people
that
were
able
to
come
here
and
support
us.
Thank
you
to
mr.
Alex
Scheck
Novick,
the
chief
operating
officer
for
Anne,
Arundel,
County,
Public,
Schools
and
I
know
he
was
here
yeah.
C
Facilities,
director
Lisa
seaman
Crawford
project
managers,
Kim
salamy,
Robert,
Spence
and
Alice
early,
and
the
entire
Anne
Arundel
County
Public
Schools
facilities
team
for
their
attention
to
detail
and
dedication
to
ensuring
that
our
needs
were
met.
I
would
like
to
recognize
the
work
of
the
architects
at
TCA
and
the
amazing
construction
team
of
oak
contracting.
C
You
made
this
process
possible.
Oh
contracting
deserves
our
kudos
and
respect
for
the
diligence
in
completing
this
project,
with
very
minimal
impact
on
teachers
and
students.
We
truly
appreciate
the
partnership
with
this
company.
They
did
a
wonderful
job
again.
I
can't
say
enough
about
the
staff
here
and
the
staff
at
the
facilities.
They
have
been
amazing
and
we
couldn't
have
done
this
without
you
at
this
time.
I
would
like
Milan
to
come
up
hi.
G
My
name
is
Milan
van
Wagner
I
am
excited
fifth-grader
and
future
Broadway
singer,
but
if
that
doesn't
work
out,
I
want
to
work
with
animals
on
behalf
of
the
students
at
Walter,
S
Mills
parol
elementary
school.
Thank
you
for
all
of
the
work
you
have
done
to
make
our
school
great.
At
this
time,
I
would
like
to
introduce
the
Board
of
Education
of
Anne
Arundel
County
mr.
soll
on
web.
Thank.
H
H
This
community
I've
walked
through
a
lot
I.
Do
a
lot
of
walkabouts
and
I
walked
through
parole,
a
lot
and
I've
looked
at
the
plaques
and
the
placards
and
there's
a
lot
of
history
in
this
community.
This
community
truly
exemplifies
unity,
and
it's
got
so
much
history
to
goes
back
so
far,
it's
worthy
of
a
chapter
in
a
history
book
I've
just
for
some
people
who
don't
know,
take
a
walk
and
see
about
what
was
going
on
a
parole
around
the
Civil
War
time.
As
a
matter
of
fact,
1939,
that's
a
significant
date.
H
H
D
You,
mr.
Webb,
thank
you
Miss
Meyers.
This
really
is
exciting.
It
truly
is
there's
wonderful
energy
in
the
room
and
it's
the
school
has
been
that
way
for
years.
For
decades,
it
really
is
Old
Home
Week,
so,
as
I
got
here,
early
I
got
here
about
a
half
hour
early
and
just
watch.
The
families
come
in
and
hug
and
greet
each
other
as
there
are
alums
and
families
for
many
many
years
back,
and
so
it
really
is
exciting
to
have
this
building
finally
completed.
D
We've
said,
thanks
to
all
the
great
many
people
that
have
that
have
participated
in
getting
us
to
where
we
are
today.
I
do
need
to
a
special
shout
out
to
the
staff.
Once
again.
Thank
you.
Thank
you.
I
know
that
you
had
to
pack
and
unpack
and
pack
and
unpack
and
pack
and
unpack,
and
then
pack
and
unpack,
and
it's
a
lot
over
a
two-year
period
and
so
I.
Thank
you
for
that,
because
you
kept
focus
on
the
students.
D
In
a
building
like
this,
a
revitalization
of
about
thirty
million
dollars
doesn't
happen
overnight
clearly,
and
it
doesn't
happen
without
the
support
of
lots
of
different
folks.
It
starts
with
our
Board
of
Education
and
their
vision
for
facilities,
improvement
plan
that
takes
decades
and
decades
to
complete
so
I.
Thank
you
for
that
also
to
our
state
entity
and
and
you'll
hear
from
delegate
McMillan
soon
once
it
goes
from
the
Board
of
Education.
D
The
state
then
has
to
embrace
what
it
is
that
we
want
to
do
with
our
schools
in
terms
of
construction,
revitalization,
modernization
and
then,
when
it
goes
from
the
state,
it
then
goes
to
and
you'll
hear
a
chant
you'll
get
a
chance
to
hear
from
mr.
Trumbauer.
It
then
goes
through
our
County
Council
and
those
entities
have
worked
together
beautifully
for
years
and
so
I
do.
Thank
the
state
and
I
do
thank
our
County
for
continuing
to
work
with
us
to
bring
us
this
amazing
building.
So,
ladies
and
gentlemen,
I
know
it's
back-to-school
night.
D
Thank
you
enjoy
your
time
and
into
the
absolutely
wonderful
LaFrieda
Adams.
You
have
been
the
mentor
to
many
and
and
we've
gotten
to
know
each
other
over
the
last
nine
years
and
I
have
had
the
pleasure
of
watching
you
operate
and
I
try
to
emulate
your
leadership,
and
so
we
are
delighted.
You've
joined
us
this
evening.
Ladies
and
gentlemen,
congratulations
on
this
wonderful
place.
Thank
you.
Now.
I
Thank
you,
I'm
delegate,
herb,
Macmillan
and
speaker
Mike,
Bush
and
Senator
John,
Astle
I
couldn't
be
here
this
evening,
but
I
certainly
want
to
convey
their
joy
and
happiness
on
this
on
this
great
occasion.
This
is
a
depending
on
how
you
look
at
it.
This
is
a
double
whammy.
We
have
a
blue
ribbon
cutting
and
it's
back-to-school
night
and
as
a
dad
who's
done.
The
back-to-school
night
thing
many
times
before
in
a
PTA
president
I
know
that
that
in
many
ways
is
the
main
event.
I
also
know
how
tired
a
lot
of
you.
I
Parents
are,
and
teachers
are
having
already
put
in
a
long
day.
So
thank
you
so
much
for
coming
for
that.
It's
so
important
for
the
children,
and
we
appreciate
it.
There
is
one
other
thing
I
want
to
say
to
you.
We've
thanked
a
lot
of
people
tonight,
but
I
want
to
thank
you
because
it's
your
money
that
did
this.
I
I
J
You
delegate
McMillan
it's
it's
great
to
be
here
to
welcome
everybody
to
the
new
Mills
parole,
elementary,
a
quick
story.
The
first
time
I
came
here.
It
was
right
after
I
was
elected.
I
had
made
a
pledge
to
myself.
I
wanted
to
go
out
and
visit
all
of
the
schools
in
my
district
and
I
think
it
was
before
your
time
a
principal
Meyers
I
think
it
was
principal
Adams
that
showed
me
around
and
she
said:
hey
come
with
me.
J
But
what
what
I
want
to
say
is
parole
is
a
great
community
and
you
deserve
a
community
school
and
now
you
have
that
previously,
the
front
of
the
school
faced
a
parking
lot
Chinquapin
round
road.
Now
it
opens
up
with
open
arms
into
parole.
Community
I
think
that
is
a
very
important
distinction
to
make,
and
it's
on
George
and
Marion
Phelps
way,
another
community
icon.
So
all
kinds
of
things
coming
together
to
make
this
great.
But
I
did
like
doctor
a
lot.
J
Oh
I
got
here
a
few
minutes
early
and
wandered
around
a
bit
and
I
noticed.
There's
a
lot
of
empty
wall
space.
So
I
wanted
to
help
you
out
with
that
and
I
brought
you
something
to
hang
up
it's
a
it's
a
citation
from
the
whole
County
Council,
all
seven
of
us
signed
it,
and
that
doesn't
always
happen
if
you've
been
following
the
council,
but
this
is
to
celebrate
the
occasion
of
opening
up
this
beautiful
school,
so
welcome
teachers,
students,
parents,
staff.
Thank
you
very
much.
Mr.
K
You
like
to
make
a
few
comments.
Thank
you,
miss
Myers,
and
thanks
to
everybody
who
came
out
here
this
evening.
Some
of
you
may
remember
back
in
1990,
there
was
a
rumor
that
this
school
was
going
to
be
closed
or
turned
into
some
other
facility.
The
community
was
mobilized.
We
mobilized
our
elected
officials,
we
mobilized
everyone
in
the
community
and
inside
of
a
couple
of
months
we
had
gathered
3,600
petitions
to
keep
the
school
open
as
an
elementary
school
there.
K
This
was
the
last
of
the
african-american,
primarily
african-american
schools
that
was
still
open
as
a
facility
in
which
it
was
to
be
open.
Originally,
the
community
was
very
upset
and
the
Board
of
Education
heard
us,
and
not
only
did
the
school
remain
open
as
the
elementary
school.
It
got
a
significant
renovation
back
in
the
early
1990s
and
I
want
to
thank
everybody
in
the
parol
community
for
mobilizing,
because,
if
not
for
your
efforts,
we
would
not
be
standing
here
in
this
building.
Today.
K
We
can
only
imagine
if
this
school
were
not
an
elementary
school.
At
this
point
we
will
be
celebrating-
and
we
are
celebrating
at
this
point-
100
years
of
educational
excellence,
of
Walter,
S,
Mills,
parol
elementary
school.
That's
a
great
milestone
and
a
great
landmark.
This
school
started
in
1916
as
the
little
red
schoolhouse
in
the
area
of
Route,
2
and
West
Street.
It
then
moved
to
the
Rosenwald
school
on
Hicks
Avenue
and
then
in
the
early
1950s,
as
Valerie
said
it
moved
to
this
building.
K
There
are
multiple
generations,
four
and
five
generations
that
have
attended
this
school.
That's
a
testimony
to
the
community
and
what
we
were
able
and
what
we
have
been
able
to
accomplish.
On
Thursday
October,
the
8th.
We
will
have
a
production
here
entitled
Annapolis
one
city,
three
friends:
the
one
city
portion
will
be
a
lecture
by
the
Annapolis
history
consortium.
They
will
be
telling
us
about
the
role
that
parol
played
in
the
Civil
War.
The
second
half
of
the
production
will
be
the
three
friends
Ms
Katherine
Joyce
age,
93,
miss
pearl
swarn,
age,
93
and
mr.
K
Charles
Chesterfield
Harris
age
91.
They
will
be
reminiscing
about
old
times
times
that
they
spent
in
this
community
and
in
this
school
we
are
asking
all
of
you
to
come
out
on
that
night.
At
seven
o'clock.
We
will
also
be
having
our
parole,
Elementary,
School,
alumni
and
Friends
course
we'll
be
singing
on
that
night
and
Valerie
will
be
leading
the
course.
We
do
have
a
rehearsal
on
Wednesday
night
at
6:30.
So
please
come
out.
Yes,
it's
a
PSA,
but
we're
asking
all
of
you
to
come
out.
K
Karen
D
Haitians
will
be
doing
the
PowerPoint
and
we
will
have
old
pictures,
new
pictures,
new
stories
and
old
stories
that
will
tickle
your
funny
bone.
So
please
come
out
at
that
time,
but
I.
Thank
you.
All
miss
Myers
MS
Adams,
the
leadership
at
the
school
at
the
Board
of
Education,
dr.
al
lado.
All
of
you
have
been
instrumental
in
this
room
to
making
this
school
the
great
school
that
it
is
and
we
believe
the
best
elementary
school
in
the
whole
entire
county.
Thank
you
very
much.
Excellent.
