Susan Love & Christy Perdomo Discuss Naviance, A Database That Assists Students With Post-Secondary Planning and Scholarship Opportunities

C

Ninth
grade
for
students
to
start
thinking
about
what
are
some
of
the
things
that
they're
doing
currently,
whether
it's
extracurricular
or
leadership
and
start
to
add
that
to
a
template.
So
by
the
time
that
there
are
a
junior
or
senior
and
they
want
to
apply
for
a
job
or
particular
college
and
have
a
resume
that
they
would
have
that
already
built
up
as
they
go
through
each
grade
level,
because
many
times,
if
they
wait,
then
they're
going
to
be
like
what
did
I
do
or
what
courses
did
I
take?
B
B
And
so,
for
what
you
want
to
do
is
you
want
to
build
on
that?
Because
in
ninth
grade
they're
transitioning
from
eighth
grade,
you
know
and
so
there
for
them?
You
know
building
that
resume
and
some
possible
career
interests
in
thinking
about
it
from
you
know
just
interest
in
relating
it
to
some
electives
that
they
could
choose
to
take
for
their
following
year
in
high
school
and
I.
Think
that
that's
really
important
and
then
a
junior
year
is
really
looking
at.
B
You
know,
college
search
and
then
senior
year,
completing
the
application
process
finishing
that
up
and
then
looking
for
some
scholarships,
but
there's
a
variety
of
tools.
It's
a
very
comprehensive
platform
so
that
we
probably
probably
tried
to
break
it
down
for
each
grade
level,
which
would
match
the
development
of
what
the
child
is
going
through
at
that
stage
in
life.
So
each
year.
A
C
B
Really
I
mean
what
we'd
have
to
find
out.
There
are
many
school
systems
within
the
country
that
use
the
knob
man's
family
connections
program,
so
it
might
be
something
that
they
are
familiar
with.
So
we
just
you
know
the
school
counselor
would
work
with
the
student
and
kind
of
figure
out,
create
them
a
new
account
and
see
how
they
can
match
up
some
of
the
work
that
they've
done
prior
before.
So
it's
not
going
to
be
a
disconnect
or
have
a
difficult
time
matching
them.
B
B
B
The
skills
that
they
need,
but
it's
more
than
that
it's
also
having
them
understand
the
processes
that
have
to
happen
and
the
knowledge
for
those
processes
to
happen.
So,
let's
say,
if
you
have
a
student
that
is
taking
honors
or
AP
or
ib
program,
or
you
have
a
student
in
a
career
completer,
it's
more
than
just
taking
the
course
it's
now.
Why
is
that
important?
And
what
can
you
do
to
lead
you
to
the
next
step
beyond
high
school?
Those
are
things
that
may
or
may
not
be
articulated
in
the
classroom.
B
So
it's
really
important
when
the
school
counselors
integrate
within
the
class
stream
and
do
their
lessons
that
they're
explaining
why
it's
important
that
their
it's
important
to
take
a
particular
pathway
or
a
particular
course
in
relationship
to
whether
it's
an
apprenticeship
or
a
career
school
or
a
four
year
or
two
university
I,
think
sometimes
that
we
just
tell
people
all
right.
You
need
to
take
this,
but
we
don't
are.
We
don't
explain
to
them.
Why
that's
important
so
the
lessons
that
the
counselors
are
holding
with
the
students
and
there's
the
pieces
of
Naviance.
B
C
B
In
a
student
account
when
they
go
in,
it
would
have
just
their
demographics
that
where
they
live
just
their
information
that
comes
from
the
student
data,
just
the
same
thing
as
you
would
say,
we
that
data
is
uploaded.
So
it's
all
current,
but
the
nice
thing
about
Naviance
is
that
it's
broken
into
three
tabs.
One
of
them
is
it
about
Medes,
haves,
a
career
tab
and
then
there's
one
basically
on
just
the
college
piece.
The
career
piece
is
really
just
for
them
to
explore.
There's
some
independent
surveys.
B
They
can
do
so
that
they're
able
to
figure
out
their
interests,
but
not
pinpoint
maybe
a
particular
career,
but
it
might
fall
under
a
grander
scope
like
they
would
like
the
arts,
but
that
doesn't
mean
they're
going
to
become
an
actor.
So
one
of
the
nice
things
it
does
is
it
kind
of
gives
them
some
room.
Some
general
room
like
I,
like
the
arts,
but
maybe
I,
also
like
science,
and
then
it
gives
them
a
list
of
some
careers
that
they
could.
B
They
could
research,
there's
videos
that
they
could
research
and
it
also
talks
about
careers
with
two
years:
post-secondary
education
for
years
or
even
a
master's
degree.
So
they
can
look
at
careers
that
fall
under
level
of
education
as
well
or
something
that's
right
out
of
high
school.
So
that's
really
a
nice
compliment
for
them
that
they're
able
to
save
their
interest
and
put
it
in
it
to
another
category.
B
So
they
can
go
right
to
the
search
category
in
which
they've
chosen
and
selected,
and
that's
really
important
so
that
when
you're
working
with
your
child,
let's,
if
I
was
a
parent
and
it's
scheduling
is
coming
up-
you
know
and
all
that
the
booklets
and
all
the
opportunities
that
we
have
for
in
Anne
Arundel
County
that
they're
able
to
match
up
hey.
Why
don't
you
take
a
course?
There's
3d
design?
You
have
an
interest
in
the
arts.
Why
don't
you
take
it
now?
Maybe
you
could
evolve
into
a
future
career
pathway.
B
C
B
High
school
students
every
year
have
an
academic
plan
and
it's
almost
like
what
is
your
goal?
What
is
your
pathway?
Is
your
pathway
college?
Is
your
pathway?
I
want
to
be
a
chef,
is
it
to
apply
but
the
cat
center.
So
every
year
the
office
of
school
counseling
works
with
the
students
they
go
in
and
they
look
at
the
selected
pathway
or
their
selected
goal
and.
C
B
Either
change
it
or
tweak
it
or
update
it,
because
in
9th
and
10th
grade,
that's
really
the
formative
time.
Most
students
think
that
they're
going
to
go
to
a
college,
but
then
there's
so
many
other
opportunities
they'll
find
out
something
about
it.
The
Career
and
Technology
education,
centers
or
they'll
figure
out
a
ninth.
You
know
from
8th
to
9th
whether
they
want
to
go
to
a
particular
magnet
school.
So.
C
B
C
B
A
B
A
B
A
B
So
they
would
either
create
a
college
or
career
goal
or
they
could
have
like
your
own
personal
goal,
like
I,
want
to
make
the
honor
roll
this
year
or
I'm
going
to
pass
a
certain
class
that
might
be
difficult
so
that
they
have
that
they're,
so
parents
are
able
to
view
it.
This
program
is
more
for
student
uses
is
for
parents
to
help,
support
and
understand
what
goals
and
interests
the
student
has,
but
it's
really
for
the
student
to
use,
and
so
one
of
the
about
me
tabs
is
their
career
interests.
B
There's
a
gallup
strength
poll
that
they
can
take
and
it
can
show
the
students
strengths
so
that
students
can
go
in
and
say
hey.
These
are
my
strengths,
I'm
a
great
collaboration,
so
I
love
tasks
that
it
will
help
me
collaborate
like
so
activities
within
the
classroom
or
even
future
careers.
You
know
I,
don't
want
to
sit
by
myself
and
work
all
day,
I'd
rather
work
in
a
team
environment.
B
So
those
things
that
helping
students
start
to
begin
to
become
aware
of
what
their
strengths
are,
are
really
critical
life
skills
and
how
they
can
leverage
that
in
their
classroom,
but
also
in
their
future
careers.
The
other
things
I
mentioned
before
was
the
resume.
So
that's
the
about
me.
Tab,
there's
also
a
portfolio,
so
as
students
are
going
through
their
their
high
school
career,
if
there's
some
sort
of
poetry
or
or
auditions
or
any
kind
of
papers,
they
can
upload
them
into
their
portfolio
and.
C
B
They
can
give
people
access,
so
they
can
access
their
portfolio
even
beyond
as
an
alumni.
You
can
go
back
in
and
look
at
that
so
I
think
those
things
are,
you
know
important
items
in
this
day
and
time
as
people
are
looking
at
how
I
can
manage
and
organize
these
projects
that
I've
completed
that
I
want.
B
C
B
C
B
Want
to
be
mindful
and
go
back
to
it
at
later
time
and
that's
really
important,
because
then
parents
can
sit
with
their
child
when
it's
the
time
to
start
applying
for
schools
and
say:
okay,
let's
go
what
were
your
favorites
and
what
is
the
reason
why
you
know
you've
selected
these
schools,
so
as
the
about
me
tab,
it's
really
just
them
going
in
and
using
the
functions,
but
then
saving
them
for
the
things
that
they
really
want
to
highlight
in
capture
and
I.
Think
that's
a
wonderful
place.
A
B
C
B
A
A
A
B
I
have
to
pick
something,
and
is
this:
what
I'm
going
to
do
for
the
rest
of
my
life
and
that
it's
really
important
when
we
talk
to
children
that
no?
This
is
just
a
first
step,
you're
going
to
have
reduce
all
the
time
you're
just
going
to
expand
upon
what
you
want
to
do
and
you're
going
to
grow
and
change.
So
in
that
respect,
it's
fantastic
for.
C
C
A
B
I
think,
as
I
mentioned
before,
really
the
program
the
use
of
the
program
is
for
students.
I
think
parents
can
support
knowing
that's
available
and
what
it
can
do
for
the
student
and
the
family
and
how
it
can
assist
in
this
college
and
career
preparation
and
I.
Think
that's
the
basic
key
just
working
with
your
child
around
career
and
post-secondary
development.
C
B
B
Parents
have
access,
they
can
contact
their
school
counselor
at
their
school
and
get
their
own
login
and
account
information,
or
they
can
just
sit
down
with
their
child
and
look
at
their
child's,
but
we
really
want
parents
on
that
on
their
accounts,
just
so
that
I
know
that
you
know
as
the
system.
We
know
that
parents
are
definitely
on
it.
Looking
to
see
what
their
child's
interests
and
career
goals
are.
I
think
that's
really
key
and
then
also
to
see
what
this
program
can
do
for
their
child.
What.
C
B
B
A
A
B
C
B
A
spa-
and
there
are
so
many
components
to
the
college
application
process,
and
now
that
everything
is
pretty
much
online
for
many
schools,
it
is
still,
it
is
still
time-consuming
in
the
fact
that
there's
a
lot
of
pieces
that
have
to
be
in
place.
But
the
fact
is
that
you
have
a
place
to
put
everything
online
and
organize
it
and
manage
it
so
that
you're,
not
tracking
all
these
pieces
of
paper
that
you
can
upload
and
you
can
connect
to
the
common
application.
Your
students
resume
is
already
there.
A
B
C
C
A
B
On
the
school,
so
some
participate
in
the
common
application
and
it's
real
important.
If
you
have
a
student
in
10th
and
11th
grade-
and
you
don't
know
what
the
coming
up
feel
free
to
google
common
app,
they
have
their
own
site,
but
common,
app
and
Naviance
were
together,
but
for
institutions
outside
common
app
they
might
have
their
own
electronic
portal.
Okay,.
C
A
B
B
A
B
The
time,
okay,
scholarships
there
are
local
scholarships.
There
are
state
scholarships
there
are,
you
know
our
national
scholarships,
so
what
happens
is
at
the
school
level
they'll
input
scholarships
that
they
have
on
the
local,
since
we
have
moved
to
district
naviance.
Currently,
if
our
office
finds
out
about
some
national
scholarships.
A
B
Will
also
put
them
into
the
Naviance
account,
so
students
have
access,
there's
a
scholarship
stab
and
they
have
all
times
are
able
to
go
in
and
look
at
the
scholarships.
It's
really
nice,
because
if
a
student
completes
certain
interest,
inventories
it'll
match
them
based
on
interest.
So,
though
you
can
do
the
scholarship
lists
based
on
your
GPA,
also
on
your
interest
and
on
your
searches.
So
you
can
come
up
with
a
list
that
is
just
catered
to
Christopher
dermo
based.
A
B
She's
put
into
that
system
for
naviance,
or
you
can
just
go
to
the
general
list
and
check
them
out
and
and
there's
usually
links
where
many
scholarships
now
you
would
apply
online
for
a
link.
So
it's
not.
Some
of
them
are
sold
the
old
paper,
but
it's
a
nice
place
for
parents
and
students
start,
and
they
can
do
it
together.
That's
the
really
nice
thing.
C
B
A
B
They
could
go
there
school
counselor,
school
secretary,
school
counseling
secretary,
the
Registrar,
there's
always
going
to
be
somebody
that
will
be
able
to
help
them
with
that
with
that
process
or
that
piece
and
if
they're
not
sure
they
can
always
ask
us,
you
know
that's
not
at
the
school
level,
counselors
are
going
in
and
working
with
each
grade
level.
This
year
and
they've
made
a
real,
concerted
effort
to
do
that
and
partner
with
you
know,
implementing
that
within
our
curriculum.
B
You
know
the
government
sites
so
they're
always
going
through
Naviance
to
be
able
to
link
to
those
important
key
pieces,
and
I
think
that's
that's
the
critical
part
they're
also
able
to
we
upload
data
on
students
so
that
their
GPAs
there
there
s
80
scores,
are
going
to
be
there
and
their
class
rank.
So
at
any
one
point
in
time
that
they're
able
to
see
if
anything,
changes
and
I
think
that's,
you
know
necessary
as
well.
B
Much
though
very
much
so
they
like
the
electronic
piece
of
it.
They're,
like
you,
know
the
transcripts,
it's
just
easier,
so
that
they're
not
tracking
or
trying
to
track
thousands
of
pieces
of
paper,
and
it's
just
a
nice
way
to
organize
their
time
and
for
the
schools
and
for
the
families.
So
on
both
sides.
The
nice
thing
is
when
we
submit
something
that
you
get
like
a
code,
you
get
like
a
it's
like
a
tracking
number.
Okay.
A
B
A
C
B
A
A
B
That
they're
able
to
as
the
school
counselor
if
they
select
that
as
one
of
their
favorites,
then
we're
really
able
to
track
and
make
sure
that
they're
taking
core
classes,
because
you
need
to
take
a
certain
number
of
core
classes.
You
cheer
to
be
eligible,
you
know,
and
so,
even
when
you
move
from,
let's
say
you
come
from
a
private
school
to
a
public
school
and
you
are
an
athlete.
B
Really
is
you
know
so
in
talking
about
career
pieces
there's
you
know,
there's
career
schools.
You
can
look
at
as
well,
and
so
it's
not
just
if
I
want
to
go
to
college
or
you
know
one
of
the
Maryland
schools,
but
there
are
plenty
of
career
opportunities
for
students
and
even
as
a
school
counselor
that
can
manage
their
Naviance
account,
they
can
also
put
so
apprenticeship.
