Here in hanover,, maryland.

hi,, I'm wiley baker with another edition of athletes in action at one of anne arundel, county.

A

Public schools' charter, schools, chesapeake science, point.

A

Let's go knock down some jumpers with the tiger basketball team and head coach,, casey swenski.

A

Though the smallest high school in anne arundel county,.

A

This csp boy's basketball team plays with the biggest heart.

B

It's great,: it's very fun.. I've been playing here since my sophomore year., it's very fun,, so I've enjoyed it..

B

I've enjoyed many of it.

C

The fact that the school is so small,, we all know each other,, we see each other every day,, so we're all close in that aspect,. So it helps us on the court.. We all know each other,. We all know what each other do, our strengths and weaknesses, our tendencies,.

C

So it helps at the end of the day.

D

We're playing a lot of freshmen, three freshmen,.

D

Three sophomores, they're getting a lot of playing time., so the future is bright.. The team has come a long way since december fifth,, first game.

[Wiley] with cozy confines,, the tiger fans really make the point roar during games.

B

Since it's so small, they're right here,, so we can see them,, we can hear them loudly.

B

It's a lot of energy on the court,, so usually,.

E

It really helps the team play a lot. Better.

A

[Wiley] having every player ready to play is extra specially important for this chesapeake science point squad.

B

[Basketball player] shooting drills, dribbling drills, everything,, all the normal things. A team would do.

D

[Coach] coming in next year,, I have a weight program in the summer and a conditioning program, so we'll be in better shape, because when you're small, like we are,, we gotta play small and fast, so that we shoot the three, play, pressure. Defense.

A

[Wiley] this tiger family claws hard to put in the work.

A

In the classroom, as well as on the court.

E

I just gotta try to show through example, and if any of them need help,, then I'm there for them.

B

This is really important,, we need everybody.. Everybody plays a part on this team,, so we need everybody.

B

I tell them keep your grades. Good, stay out of trouble,.

B

Make sure you're right? Because this team's important.

B

We need everybody.

A

[Wiley], the leaders,, coaches, and captains alike, strive for ultimate success.

E

[Basketball player], the coach this year seems to be helping us out a lot as far as helping the young guys understand basketball, a little bit more, and we're starting to develop into a little bit more sound team.

D

[Coach], I'm a high energy guy to start with,, so we're gonna go 150% in practice,, and these kids love basketball.

B

[Basketball player], they lead us,, they push us hard, every single practice,, every single day.

B

they motivate us, and it's great..

B

We appreciate it for sure.

D

And you have to instill in it, they have to work hard, and you make it fun for them,. Too.

D

kids are enjoying it and everything.. We don't want to make it drudgery, or they don't want to come. Back. everyday,, they're, always showing up,, so we're doing something. Right.

[Wiley] and the captains take a lot of pride in setting that best example for their tigers.

B

It is great, you know., I've certainly embraced it, and it's teaching me a lot.

B

I've learned a lot from being a leader on this team. This year.

C

Being one of the first people to be on a varsity basketball team for any school is an honor in itself,, so being one of those guys, something I'm gonna remember,, I'm gonna, remember it for the rest of my life.

Basically, all the seniors last year, they left,.

E

So this is basically a brand new team, and I think we started gelling together really well.

E

Just due to us hanging together on or off the court, and it's helping us on the court.

C

It's an honor because I've been here for the last three years, and I've looked up to guys.. Now, I'm the guy that's being looked up. To., I'm the older guy., it's a rite of passage,! So I'm honored.

This is great., it's awesome.

B

we're not like any other school. we're very small,, but we've been able to make it happen,.

B

And it's great,, it's wonderful.

A
