We're not dogging it in harwood today, hi, I'm wiley baker with another edition of athletes in action, as we are down at southern high school, we're working it up with the southern bulldog boys, lacrosse team and head coach brendan brace time it up. Chad, the dogs, like their mix of bark and bite on the turf.

We have a good group of seniors and a good group of underclassmen and I think we're pretty deep this year compared to some years past team.

Means a lot been together for a while. Just keep keep going, keep trying to win the games a wide.

Variety of leaders encourage the team to reach its pinnacle. I.

Don't really like losing so if my teammates are joking around not trying to make them play harder know that it's real serious, because I'm trying to go real far this year.

I want to point team the right direction every day, pushing my teammates harder and harder just so we can reach our final goal getting to a state championship.

A lot of our team is younger and our same age as me, so I mean if coach brady asked me to do something: I'd do it and I try to get on kids. If they disagree or they don't like it, then I have to tell them what to do or get on them.

A good run through the regular season and post season usually means finding ways to keep all southern lacrosse players in good health.

Twice a week we do acl prevention. Our athletic trainer leads the guys in acl prevention stuff, so they're doing that, because that's a big big thing with the new turf is guys have torn acls.

Every day run a couple laps run a couple scenics around get in shape, try to stay healthy as much as possible. It's all about.

Stretching and conditioning you've got to work harder in the off season than you do during the season, so you can stay healthy and be ready for next I try to drink a lot of water eat. A lot of fruits and vegetables. Keep my core and cardio better.

Strong preparation off the field means well-prepared bulldogs on the field. We do.

Study hall for about an hour hour and a half every single day after school, to make sure that everybody's getting their work, done a good opportunity for them to get all their their homework done and go and get extra help with any teachers or anything. Every.

Day we got to get on kids about talking and doing their work and everyone's got to keep up the grades. Good.

And good grades is the most important thing, because, if you're not eligible, you can't play coach brace, really helps us out with study hall every day. I have.

A weighted gpa of 4.3 so try to keep my grades up with all my ap classes and honors classes.

Players and coaches matching intensity is a key to southern lacrosse's winning tradition. Both.

Of our coaches are assisting our head and we've known them since youth league and they've helped us grow up and they've taught me everything about. I know about lacrosse. I know these guys.

Forever, basically, like a father figure to me and great people.

The continued success of bulldog lacrosse is all about focus and diligence and love.

Of the sport I play indoor I play summer, I play outdoor play everything so I mean just the more you play the better you get. I.

Tend to be kind of faster than other kids, so if they beat me, I'm still a step behind they've, never really. Outrun me.

Dogs they enjoy lacrosse and it's it's fun to watch, because when you get a home crowd here at southern, it's it's great. It actually is great.

They're the best fan support. I could ever ask for man the great every game home away, no matter how far they're always there cheering us on.

Since it's not a big town, everybody comes out, sometimes watches the game and when, when we're doing real good, it's pretty loud, the.

Captains lead with pride and are humbled by their roles.

We're pretty close-knit because all of us grew up playing together, so we have a real, close bond. We.

Try to get everybody to listen to us, push them in the right way. Most of the time they do something wrong, we'll tell them what they do be easy with them. Do it again, probably get a little more.

Mad at them we're led by senior captains who keep us in check and help us just keep our heads straight and we just play as a team and that's our goal for the bulldogs.

Think getting back to a region championship game this year and uh and hopefully winning that would be, would be big for for our program. It would be big for our guys state championship.

That's about it getting better, each and every day and reaching that state championship. Knowing.
