A
Hello
and
welcome
to
Abba
deceivers
I'm
your
host
dot
Arita
coordinator
of
avid
today
on
avid
achievers.
We
will
get
the
chance
to
discover
the
benefits
of
avid,
hear
first-hand
knowledge
and
learn
what
it
is
to
be
an
avid
student.
Today
we
are
joined
by
Anne
Arundel
County
Public
Schools
students
who
will
share
their
avid
experiences
with
us.
Welcome
to
the
show
the
avid
elective
class
begin
in
our
district
secondary
schools
in
2003.
A
Each
secondary
school
is
currently
on
the
path
to
making
avid
strategies
come
alive
for
the
entire
school,
with
school-wide
efforts
to
promote
consistent
and
intentional
writing
inquiry
collaboration
organization
and
reading
strategies.
These
strategies
will
will
arm
all
students
with
the
21st
century
skills
that
are
needed
for
success
in
their
post-secondary.
Endeavors
avid
elementary
follows
a
similar
model
where
all
students
in
the
school
are
impacted
by
avid
strategies
to
improve
college
and
career
readiness
for
all
learners.
The
avid
elementary
program
is
in
twelve
of
our
elementary
schools.
A
Right
now,
we
are
pleased
to
welcome
three
student
panelists
to
our
show
today.
Welcome

and
welcome
to

is
one
of
the
most
experienced
avid
showcase
sites
on
the
East
Coast.
Thank
you
for
being
with
us
today.
B
Me
is
full
of
people
that
you
get
to
meet
throughout
your
high
school
experience
and
middle
and
elementary
and
you
you
get
to
be
with
them
throughout
the
rest
of
your
life.
Honestly
I've
had
the
same
ever
class
since
freshman
year,
and
it's
just
been
a
great
experience
to
be
with
them
and
be
a
part
of
something
something
new.
B
C
D
Avid
to
me
is
like
organized
organ
aid
organization,
which
means
like
to
where
you
have
everything
in
a
certain
thing.
That's
already
for
you
to
work
on
and
make
sure
you
get
your
grades
on
like
Jen
I
said
like
it
helps
you
for
college,
so
you
make
sure
you're
ready
and
you
don't
get
back
grades
and
you
don't
struggle
and
that's
why
I
think
that's
what
avid
is
about
to
make
you
ready
for
life?
Okay,.
A
D
A
So
college
and
career
readiness
is
obviously
alive
and
well
on
the
wall.
As
a
Point
Pleasant,
the
school
uses
virtually
every
wall
space
available
to
promote
avid
strategies
that
students
are
currently
working
on.
Teachers
all
have
door
signs
next
to
their
classroom
that
highlight
the
college's
they
went
to.
Students
throughout
the
school
are
consistently
and
intentionally
using
the
focus
note-taking
process
in
their
classes.
They
are
comfortable
at
taking
two
and
three
column
notes:
processing
their
notes,
connecting
thinking,
summarizing
and
reflecting,
and
even
with
applying
their
notes
to
a
project
or
class
discussion.
A
Students
stay
organized
by
using
their
agenda
books
with
fidelity.
They
also
use
agenda
books
to
set
goals
and
revisit
these
goals
to
monitor
to
their
own
progress,
one-pagers
adorn
the
halls
and
classroom
Billiton
boards
alike.
One-Pagers
are
a
wonderful
strategy
that
allows
students
to
creatively
express
their
knowledge
and
thinking
on
a
reading
or
topic.
D
That
so
it's
like
kind
of
set
up
as
a
college,
because
it
has
like
all
the
flags
of
a
college
and
we
earn
well.
You
can't
just
go
to
the
dorm
room,
you
never
you
want,
you
have
to
earn
it
and
then
you
get
to
go
in
there.
And
then
you
like
play
games
with
your
friends
and
you
have
to
earn
it
and
they
set
up.
D
A
I
know
there
are
things
in
the
dorm
room
that
can
be
found
in
any
dorm
room.
I
heard
there's
a
way
in
there
and
that
kids
can
get
comfortable
and
play
on
the
Wii.
While
sitting
on
some
couches
and
soft
seating
you
can
earn,
treats
and
the
privilege
to
play.
Games
I
saw
cornhole
in
there
and
they
feel
like
they're,
truly
in
a
dorm
environment.
There's
a
mini
fridge
with
snacks
and
drinks
and
college
pennants,
like
you
said,
and
there's
even
a
lava
lamp
yeah.
That
really
sounds
like
a
dorm
room
to
me.
A
Do
kids
enjoy
getting
to
go
to
the
dorm
room?
Yes,
they
do
a
lot
excellent.
So
in
our
office
we
keep
track
of
a
lot
of
data
that
says
avid's
doing
good
things
and
kids
are
growing
because
of
avid.
So
we
know
that
there
are
a
lot
of
benefits
from
being
fall
involved
in
avid
and
with
avid
experiences.
Can
you
tell
us
what
you
think
some
benefits
are
to
being
an
avid
student,
some.
B
B
For
you,
great
and
as
well
as
learning
the
network,
because
once
you
go
on
and
go
through
life,
you
have
to
learn
how
to
communicate
in
network
and
networking
is
basically
being
able
to
communicate
with
others.
To
benefit
yourself.
So
being
able
to
advocate,
for
yourself
is
a
big
stuff
for
in
admin
as
well.
B
Even
colleges,
actually,
we
talked
to
your
college
at
our
college.
Fair
at
school
yesterday
and
I
got
to
get
a
free
free
waiver
and
we're
also
gonna
visit
soon.
So.
A
C
Feel
like
some
of
the
benefits
that
we
have
is
just
getting
to
like.
Is
it
colleges
in
general,
because
I
know
that
some
classes
definitely
in
middle
school
in
elementary
school,
they
don't
get
to
actually
like
go
to
college.
Go
to
see,
you
know
what
it's
like,
what
the
dorm
rooms
are
like
that
and
just
having
leadership
of
opportunities.
C
Organization,
you
just
organization
is
like
the
key
thing.
You
know
if
you
have
like
once
you
move
on
to
college
you're
gonna
be
an
adult
and
you
need
to
like
know
how
to
organize
stuff
so
like
if
you're,
not
really
good
at
organization.
It's
not
gonna
really
benefit
you
or
help
you
that
much
but
being
an
average
just
helps
it's
like
another
step
up
to
what
you
really
want
to
do.
I.
A
So
in
middle
and
high
school
avid
is
an
elective
class,
so
you
choose
to
participate
in
avid.
It
takes
up
one
of
your
elective
spots
yeah.
So
you
can
join
avid
in
sixth
grade
seventh
grade
eighth
grade,
all
the
way
up
to
10th
or
11th
grade.
What
makes
you
gen
AIA
and
destiny
can
continue
with
avid
each
year.
B
So
what
makes
me
want
to
continue
with
it
is
being
in
the
presence
of
people
that
also
want
to
do
well
in
life.
Like
miss
gray
she's
such
an
amazing
teacher,
I
love
her
so
much
she's
like
mentors
for
me,
and
you
know
she
really
guides
me
to
keep
going
and
striving
to
be
better
than
what
I
was
the
day
before
you
know.
C
I
just
feel,
like
you
know,
I
have
wonderful
teachers
with
since
she's
a
wonderful
teacher.
She
tells
you
like.
Okay,
if
you
get
something
else,
you
like
give
you
a
bad
grade.
She'll,
let
you
actually
like
redo
it
and
she'll
talk
you
through
it
and
I
also
feel
like
the
people
in
your
average
class
like
they're,
not
just
your
peers
or
Friendster.
Actually,
it's
like
an
avid
family.
C
B
A
D
I
will
because
I
wanted
to
do
well
in
life
and
not
you
have
bad
grades
and
just
like
and
have
good
grades
in
one
class,
because
you
have
to
have
good
grades
and
you're
supposed
to
have
good
grades
in
all
classes.
Succeed
like
it
also
avid
it
helps
you
prepare
for
like
every
single
step
in
your
life.
What.
B
C
Think
some
advice
I
would
give
to
some
who's
stepping
into
avid
or
considering
you
know
going
in
to
have
it.
You
have
to
be
determined
and,
like
don't
always
doubt
yourself,
and
you
know
have
that
confidence
that
you
know
everybody
strives
to
have
and
just
be
just
be
the
best
that
you
can
be.
You
know
these
are
kids
that
will
understand
what
you're
going
through
and
they're,
not
gonna,
make
fun
of
you.
If
you
get
something
wrong,
they'll
actually
try
and
help
you,
okay,.
B
B
What
keeps
us
going,
what
keeps
us
striving
to
to
be
better
every
day,
and
so
at
the
end,
we
got
to
keep
those
three
cards
and
we
kept
those
in
our
book
back
to
remember
like
this
is
where
we're
this
is
where
we're
going
in
like
this
is
who
we're
trying
to
be
there
for
like
just
motivating
ourselves
and
I
thought.
That
was
amazing,
because
it
actually
helped
me
to
want
to
keep
going
and
work
harder
and
be
stronger
in
all
my
classes.
Sometimes.
B
B
C
Couldn't
write
your
name
on
it,
and
so
you
would
follow
it
up
and
throw
it
across
the
room
and
whoever
grabs
that
they
after
like
find
out
who
it
is,
and
it's
very
funny
because
some
people
could
get
it
wrong
and
everybody's
like
well
I
didn't
say
that
I
don't
have
that.
So
it's
just
a
good
way
to
get
to
knowing
your
peers
and
new
upcoming
friends.
That's
really
hoped.
B
A
Okay,
I
do
think
that's
one
of
the
best
parts
of
avid
is
having
this
group
of
people
that
you
know
have
the
same
goals
of
you
as
you
and
are
there
to
support
you.
Ryan
comes
from
different
backgrounds.
Absolutely
so
one
of
the
reasons
why
we
do
a
lot
of
class
building
and
team-building
in
avid
is
because
we
do
avid
tutorials
and
when
we
do
avid
tutorials,
you
have
to
be
vulnerable
in
front
of
your
classmates.
A
B
B
A
B
A
B
Sometimes
because
sometimes
I
feel
like
I,
always
know
the
answer,
but
have
the
time
you're
not
right.
So
then
they
have
to
like.
Oh
whoa
is
that
right
and
you're
like
hold
up,
because
when
we
go
back
and
check
so
it's
it's
pretty
different,
getting
up
and
actually
happening
to
talk
and
advocate
for
yourself
so
getting
to
do
that
in
a
V.
It
helps
me
become
a
better
person
and
to
further
my
communication
skills,
a
destiny.
C
C
Definitely,
if
you're
in
the
new
group
for
tutorials,
you
want
to
like
get
more
comfortable
around
them
and
like
actually
admit
that
you're
having
a
problem
with
it
now
something
that
I've
realized
in
middle
school
is
that
most
tutorial
questions
aren't
about
math
and
I.
Feel
like
left
is
a
tricky
subject,
because
you
know
there's
fractions
and
dividing
and
multiplying
integers
and
all
of
that
stuff-
and
you
know
some
kids
just
don't
get
it
as
quick
as
most
other
kids
to
do
so.
It's
like
well
hey.
C
A
So
one
of
our
goals,
in
as
an
avid
program,
is
to
spread
these
avid
strategies
that
we're
using
in
the
avid
elective
class
out
into
the
school
for
all
students.
So
there's
a
lot
of
teacher
training
and
teacher
education
that
goes
on,
so
that
these
strategies
can
be
happening
in
classes
with
all
students
as
well,
so
Shawn
at
your
school.
What
are
some
strategies
that
your
teachers
use
with
you
in
class
well
strategies.
D
That
we
are
like
that
we
do
is
we
do
like
note-taking?
We
do
Cornell
notes
which
is
like
based
on
what
you've
read
to
make
sure
like.
When
we
go
back
to
reading
table,
then
we
like
see
what
we
got
and
see
if
we
got
the
answer
right
or
wrong
and
see
if
everybody
knows
what
we're
talking
about,
and
we
also
do
one-pagers,
which
is
about
like
a
of
what
you're
learning
in
class
like
in
social
studies
or
science,
and
then
we
also
do
note
anything
like
I
said,
which
we
do
like.
A
B
C
Yes,
we
do
use
average
strategies
in
their
classes
when
we
are
doing
our
portfolios.
We
are
using
the
Wicker
strategy
and
we
just
have
to
go
into
our
binder
and
find
like
each
sections
like
if
I
was
doing,
the
W
for
wicker
I
would
do
the
writing
portion,
and
you
know
the
first
thing
I
would
usually
go
to
if
any
other
kid
would
go
to
is
their
English
divider
in
their
binder
cause.
That's
where
you
do
most
of
your
essays
and
stuff.
But
overall
our
school
isn't
I'm
a
demonstration
school,
so
avid
I
mean
yeah.
D
Like
to
be
a
lawyer
when
I
grow
up
and
first
to
be
a
lawyer,
I
would
have
to
go
to
college
and
get
through
that
stage
and
then,
after
that,
I
would
have
to
become
well.
First,
you
don't
know
if
you're
gonna
become
a
lawyer
just
because
you
take
the
classes
for
that,
so
that
I
would
try
to
become
a
lawyer.
D
And
if
that
happened
since
I'm,
pretty
sure
that
a
lawyer
has
more
than
one
case
at
a
time
so
like
they
would
have
to
like
the
the
date
is
one
of
the
most
important
parts
and
and
name
because,
like
say,
one
person
turns
it
in
on
the
first
like
November.
First
and
the
other
person
turns
it
in
into
December.
D
The
person
in
December
could
probably
get
it
right
first,
if
they
didn't
put
oh,
if
the
first
person
didn't
put
the
date,
because
the
the
lawyer
wouldn't
know
they
would
get
so
much
cases
at
one
time,
so
I
think
that's
why
it
would
help
me
and
also
organization.
That's
why
that's
why
the
day
is
very
important
and
the
key
is
organization
in
college
destiny.
C
My
plan
is
to
go
to
college.
My
heart's
been
set
on
Maryland
University
I
feel
like
it's
gonna,
be
a
really
good
school
I've
heard
it's
a
really
good
school
and
I
want
to
become
a
teacher.
My
goal
has
been
to
become
a
teacher
ever
since
I
was
a
little
girl
used
to
you
know
pretend
I
had
imaginary
students
and
did
a
teacher
and
I
would
beg
my
little
sister
because
she
was
like
at
the
time
I
was
like.
C
A
C
I
feel
like
I
would
could
help
me
with
my
confidence
level,
because
you
know
once
you
start
going
into
your
college
classes
and
starting
to
like
lean
into
the
teacher
side
of
what
you're
going
to
learn
in
which
you're
gonna
become
you
know.
Sometimes
they
might
bring
you
down.
I
can't
do
this,
so
you
know
your
confidence
level
and
you
also
just
have
to
keep
your
grades
up.
To
be
honest
because
true,
like
this,
you
can't
become
a
teacher
and
not
have
good
grades.
You
know
that's
not
setting
a
good
example
for
your
soon-to-be
kids.
C
B
And
Jedi
and
I
want
to
be
a
psychologist,
and
every
will
help
me
with
that,
because
it
teaches
you
time:
management,
skills,
communication,
networking
and
time
management
is
a
big
one,
because
it's
not
it's
more
journey
about
school.
But
you
also
have
to
learn
how
to
have
fun,
but
as
well
as
doing

The
writing
on
the
walls
course
was
designed
to
create
an
exciting
experience
for
students
who
might
not
normally
consider
taking
an
art
course.
We
examine
modern
artists
in
a
modern
material
and
may
encourage
students
to
find
their
voice
and
tell
their
story
through
their
work.
Writing
on
the
walls
is
such
a
fun
class.
It's
a
fun
way
to
approach
art.
