A
B
To
ensure
Equitable
and
fairness
towards
students
in
terms
of
the
rights
and
responsibilities
under
our
Anne
Arundel
County
Public,
Schools
student
handbook
code
of
conduct.
In
addition,
our
primary
focus
is
to
make
sure
that
our
school
leaders
and
employees
have
the
equipment
and
resources
they
need,
as
outlined
in
the
code
for
infractions
of
students
in
terms
of
their
behavior
support
to
them.
With
regards
to
problem
solving,
in
addition
to
any
legal
parameters
around
exclusionary
disciplines,.
B
Safe
and
orderly
schools
is
a
division
of
student
support
services
and
the
process
to
work
with
us
would
have
to
do
with
conversation
around
extended
suspensions
and
expulsions,
issues
regarding
reportable
arrests
and
offenses,
bullying,
intimidation,
cyber
bullying
and
harassment,
in
addition
to
just
one-on-one
follow-up,
consults
and
customer
service,
around
keeping
schools
safe,
specifically,
our
relationship
with
North
County,
High
School,
where
we
may
go
out
and
have
conversations
around
the
climate
of
the
building,
things
that
are
happening
in
the
community.
That
could
impact
the
schools,
things
that
are
happening
in
the
schools
that
impact
the
community.
B
So
it
becomes
a
didactic
conversation
where
we
go
out
and
we
support
each
other
and
we
lean
into
them.
They
lean
into
us
and
we
are
pretty
much
advisors
to
the
work
we
guide
administrators
to
have
them,
make
the
best
most
healthiest
decisions
as
long
as
we're
finding
legal
parameters
in
which
to
do
so
and
minimizing
the
impact
of
exclusionary
discipline,
that's
the
biggest
and
most
key
is
keeping
children
in
school,
but
also
keeping
folks.
C
Safe,
so
the
process
of
working
with
safe
and
all
these
schools
is
when
a
student
commits
a
serious
active
misconduct
in
a
school
it's
investigated,
and
when
the
investigation
is
completed.
The
administrator
who
conducted
the
investigation
meets
with
the
principal
of
school.
They
make
a
determination
how
they're
going
to
handle
this
active
misconduct,
because
it's
a
violation
of
a
coach
student
conduct
in
the
end,
the
principal
has
the
right,
if
there's
evidence
in
the
investigation,
to
make
a
request
for
extended
suspension
for
expulsion
depending
on
how
serious
the
violation
is.
D
The
process
to
work
with
safe
and
orderly
schools
is
an
incident
occurs
at
a
school,
the
assistant
principal
principal.
They
investigate
that
incident
and
based
on
the
student
code
of
conduct.
They
look
up
the
category
if
it's
level,
one
two,
three
four
five
level
five
incidents
get
reported
to
us
oftentimes.
We
have
to
go
out
and
do
an
investigation
as
well.
D
We
investigate
the
school's
information,
but
we
also
interview
additional
students
and
Witnesses
and
gather
as
much
information
as
we
can,
because
when
they
submit
a
major
incident,
referral
they're
asking
for
the
removal
of
the
student
for
an
extended
suspension,
that's
more
than
10
days,
so
we
want
to
make
sure
the
student
receives
due
process.
So
one
of
those
means
of
doing
that
is
one
of
us.
An
independent
third
party
person
who
are
trained
in
mediation
and
hearings
and
investigation
goes
out
and
investigates
the
incident.
D
We
hold
a
hearing
conference
with
the
parent,
the
student
and
the
school
administrator
and
the
principal,
and
from
that
conference
the
investigation
is
completed.
We
bring
the
results
the
write-up
to
our
boss,
Dr
Swift
makes
a
first
review
and
then
it
moves
on
to
the
assistant
superintendent
of
schools,
who
makes
the
final
review,
because
the
request
for
an
extended
suspension
is
a
serious
situation.
D
E
The
process
of
working
with
saving
orderly
schools
is
we.
We
have
a
great
process.
We
have
great
working
relationship
with
Dr,
Alice,
Swift
and
her
team.
We
have
our
team
come
out
in
the
summertime
and
do
professional
development
with
our
secretaries
and
with
our
AP
team,
to
make
sure
that
we
are
adhering
to
all
of
the
policies
and
the
procedures
and
the
regulations
via
the
code
of
conduct.
E
So
our
students
are
really
in
line
and
we
are
in
line
with
what
the
district
is
offering
and
what
the
district
wants.
So
I
love
working
with
safe
and
early
schools,
Dr
Swift
and
her
team
they're
a
great
team.
They
work
well
together
and,
and
we're
just
a
part
we're
just
a
great
partnership
with
them.
F
So
the
process
for
working
with
safe
and
orderly
schools
is
the
same.
I've
had
the
opportunity
to
work
at
two
high
schools
in
Anne,
Arundel
County
as
principal
I
was
formerly
at
Old
Mill,
High,
School
and
I'm.
Currently,
the
principal
at
South,
River,
High,
School
I,
think
it's
really
important
that
you
get
to
know
who
your
point
of
contact
is
in
safe
and
orderly,
get
their
phone
number
have
their
email,
they're
very
responsive
and
you
can
get
a
hold
of
them
almost
24
7..
F
So
in
the
beginning
of
the
year,
I
like
to
invite
my
point
of
contact
out,
along
with
the
option
of
the
rest
of
the
safe
and
orderly
team,
to
come
and
join
us
for
a
meeting.
One
of
the
important
things
that
we
do
is
we
talk
about
any
changes
to
the
student
code
of
conduct?
It's
really
important
for
us
here
at
South
River,
because
I
believe
in
creating
a
binder
that
all
of
our
administrators
use
in
order
to
stay
consistent
and
up
to
date
on
current
changes.
F
But
my
advice
would
be
that
when
in
doubt
always
ask
they're
a
partner
with
us,
and
so
it's
very
easy
to
get
answers
in
the
front
end.
Instead
of
waiting
all
the
way
until
it's
finished
and
if
you
have
a
chance
to
sit
on
the
student
code
of
conduct
review
panel.
I
highly
suggest
that
you
take
that
opportunity.
F
C
C
We
explained
the
district
procedure
to
the
family,
the
school
administrator
reviews,
their
findings
in
the
investigation.
I
have
questions
that
I
ask
the
student
because
I
want
to
get
his
or
her
side
of
the
story.
I
also
asked
the
parent
to
share
some
comments
with
this
or
questions.
If
they
have
them.
We
then
ask
the
principal
to
join
us
in
the
meeting
if
he
or
she
is
not
already
in
the
meeting,
and
we
ask
them
for
a
final
decision.
C
Are
you
still
supporting
your
requests
to
go
forward
to
the
central
office
for
a
final
decision,
or
are
you
resending
that
request
if
the
principal
decides
to
forward
the
request
it
this?
This
whole
packet
of
of
information
then
has
to
go
to
the
central
office.
I
submitted
a
summary
I
sit
down
with
the
two
designees
to
the
superintendent.
C
One
is
my
director
Dr
Swift,
and
the
other
is
the
assistant
superintendent
for
the
division
of
student
support
services
and
that's
Mrs
Sally
Eagan
I
meet
with
each
of
them
individually
to
discuss
the
case
and
to
share
any
evidence
that
that's
in
the
case
they
make
a
recommendation
and
once
the
two
of
them
make
a
recommendations,
zigan
is
the
person
who
signs
off
on
the
final
decision
and
from
that
point
a
letters
is
submitted
to
the
family
I
personally,
as
a
courtesy
to
the
family,
always
give
them
my
card
in
case.
C
They
want
to
know
what
the
decision
is
on
the
date
that
it's
made
now.
This
is
a
10-day
process.
Doesn't
go
past
that
10th
day
unless
there's
a
problem
with
the
family
attending
the
conference.
If
the
family
attends
the
conference,
it's
a
10-day
process.
Whatever
that
decision
is,
we
then
inform
the
family
through
through
the
mail
or
through
a
phone
call
and
through
the
mail
and
from
there
we
then
explain
to
them
where
they
will
be
going
if
they
are
removed
from
school.
C
F
Typically,
when
working
with
safe
and
orderly
schools,
the
results
that
I
have
seen
have
been
very
positive
for
myself
and
for
my
administrative
team.
It's
an
easy
way
to
collaborate
and
to
save
time
when
you're
working
on
a
case
or
an
issue
in
the
building.
It's
afforded
me
the
opportunity
to
build
relationships
with
other
Personnel
in
Anne.
Arundel
County
part
of
my
job
is
maintaining
a
safe
and
secure
building.
We
all
want
to
do
what's
best
for
students
having
this
collaboration
was
safe
and
orderly
is
Paramount
to
ensuring
a
safe
and
secure
building.
D
Programs
like
Mary
Moss
at
Albert,
Adams
or
Phoenix
Academy.
We
just
want
to
make
sure
that
during
that
time
frame
they
receive
Services
they're
getting
educated.
We
also
have
some
other
resources.
We
can
refer
them
to,
so
the
outcome
would
be
fair,
due
process
and
Educational
Services
provided
and
then,
of
course,
we
return
them
after
and
try
to
help
them
in
that
transition
process
as
well.
E
So
typical
results
vary
with
safe
and
early,
but
I
appreciate
the
in-depth
knowledge
that
they
have
the
the
way
that
they
actually
investigate
a
case
that
goes
deeper
than
how
maybe
our
investigation
happens
at
the
school,
so
I'm
very
pleased
with
all
of
the
results
of
safe
and
orderly,
whether
they
come
back
in
our
favor,
whether
they
come
back
with
a
different
decision.
E
I'm
always
pleased
with
safe
and
early,
because
I
know
that
they're
doing
the
best
what's
best
in
the
interest
for
all
students
and
what's
in
the
best
interest
for
schools,
so
doc,
like
I,
said
Dr
Swift
and
her
team.
They
do
a
great
job
of
investigating
and
going
in
depth
and
making
the
right
decision
for
the
school
and
for
the
students.
B
B
B
Specifically,
we
could
enter
our
building
and
a
parent
could
have
a
concern
or
issues,
and
we
roll
our
sleeves
up
and
take
the
lead
by
getting
in
delving
in
sitting
down,
having
conversations
to
hear
them
out
to
try
to
offer
resources
and
support
to
also
then
build
the
capacity
of
those
that
we
serve
in
the
schools,
I.E
the
principal
and
their
administrative
teams,
pulling
them
in
to
unpack
some
of
the
things
that
parents
may
have
shared
with
us,
or
even
students.
G
Students
coming
back
well,
let
me
just
say
before
they
even
go:
I
have
the
pleasure
if
I
am
conducting
an
investigation
and
talking
to
families,
one
of
the
things
that
I
say
to
students
and
family
is
this
particular
issue
does
not
define
you.
This
Behavior
does
not
define
you
and
then
I
start
talking
about.
Where
do
you
see
yourself
in
the
future
and
so
I
kind
of
begin
that
conversation
before
they
even
leave,
but
I
think
students
coming
back.
G
So
one
of
the
other
roles
that
I
play
in
the
office
of
safe
and
orderly
schools
is
the
adjudication
process.
What
is
that?
That's
when
our
students
have
gone
out
and
unfortunately,
have
committed
a
crime
in
the
community?
So
it
is
not
a
school
discipline,
but
is
it
an
activity
that
has
happened
outside
of
the
schoolhouse?
Those
students
are
then
placed
in
placements
like
our
hickey
schools,
our
juvenile
detention
centers,
and
so
when
it
is
time
for
students
to
come
back
from
that
process
there
it's
it's
huge.
G
There
has
been
some
comments
about
those
those
students
returning
to
our
alternative
schools
when
they
come,
but
I've
decided
that
we,
those
kids,
have
already
come
from
their
alternative
school
settings,
I'm
not
going
to
hold
them
hostage
to
what
happened
in
the
past.
But
if
the
schools
do
it
right,
if
we
do
it
right,
then
we
give
kids
a
second
chance
and
an
opportunity
to
be
successful
back
in
our
Anne
Arundel
County
Public
Schools.
E
So,
working
with
saving
early
on
these
modern
challenges
that
we
have
with
students,
the
rise
of
bullying
and
intimidation
via
a
physical
or
personal
bullying,
or
even
cyber
bullying,
the
rise
of
a
lot
of
things.
Self-Medication
vaping
a
lot
of
these
things,
so
we
partner
with
safe
and
early
schools
to
really
really
Hammer
those
code
of
conduct.
E
Lessons
try
to
get
kids
to
really
change
the
behavior,
but
in
order
to
change
Behavior,
you
have
to
replace
it
with
something
positive,
and
so
we
are
really
working,
we're
safe
and
orally
and
positively
in
a
positive
relationship
to
make
sure
that
if
we
are
going
to
change
behavior
in
students
that
we
replace
it
with
a
good
behavior
and
safe
and
early
helps
us
do
those
things
by
monitoring
how
many
students
are
being
bullied
and
giving
us
feedback
on
how
to
maneuver
through
some
of
the
challenges
of
of
our
students
and
so
I
appreciate
you
safe
and
early
Dr
Swift
and
her
team
for
all
that
they
do
not
just
from
North
Carolina
High
School,
but
for
all
that
they
do
for
our
own
account.
F
Schools
today
and
in
my
job
as
a
principal
modern
challenges,
have
changed
drastically
from
what
we've
seen
I
think
it's
very
important
that
we
understand
the
impact
that
the
covet
pandemic
has
had
on
children
on
adults
and
on
skilled
school
buildings.
In
particular,
mental
health
has
changed.
Expectations
have
changed
some
of
the
things
at
the
high
school
level
that
we're
seeing
are
students
being
able
to
problem
solve
with
their
peers.
F
F
B
B
One
of
those
areas
of
focus
is
that
we
provide
access
for
our
parents
or
reporters
for
bullying
online
through
our
Internet
site,
as
we
are
required
under
the
Maryland
State
Department
of
Education
and
State
Board
of
Education
our
model
policy
to
address
the
needs
of
our
families,
who
do
believe
that
their
children
are
victims
of
bullying
cyber
bullying,
intimidation,
harassment.
We
have
a
requirement
within
a
48
hours
to
investigate
those
reports
and
to
provide
supportive
measures
to
our
students.
B
In
addition,
the
safe
and
orderly
schools
office
offers,
through
our
Charles
Leisure
programs,
alcohol,
drug
and
tobacco,
the
responsible
action
program
and,
of
course,
our
bias,
behavior
and
language
courses
to
assist
our
families
with
the
challenges
that
our
students
face
daily
and
to
more
or
less
look
for
ways
to
mitigate
these
things.
So
they
do
not
occur
again.
There's.
D
Some
Modern
challenges
that
our
school
system
and
our
students
face
today
with
the
increase
of
social
media
technology
and
the
constant
use
of
cell
phones.
Often
our
students
have
to
deal
with
cyber
bullying
harassment,
all
types
of
things
and
and
the
influence
of
different
things
that
are
posted
on
those
social
media.
So
our
school
system,
with
our
student
code
of
conduct
committee
and
which
is,
is
comprised
of
Administrators
staff
from
all
throughout
the
Board
of
Education,
the
central
office
and
throughout
the
county.
D
We
try
to
look
at
what
the
major
issues
are
and
we
try
to
cover
them
in
the
student
handbook,
using
the
board
regulations
and
policies,
we
have
policies,
saying
you
can't
harass
in
Cyberbully,
we
have
misuse
of
social
media
misuse
of
personal
electronic
devices.
We've
had
students
do
some
things
on
the
school-based
computers.
So
that's
one
of
the
things
that
we
look
at.
We
want
again
a
safe
education,
a
good
education,
a
fair
education.
So
we
try
to
make
sure
we're
consistent
across
the
county
and
teaching
the
students
the
right
way
to
use
their
technology.
D
B
Schools
and
as
unfortunate
as
this
part
of
the
conversation
is
there
are
some
students
that
are
sometimes
placed
on
requests
for
extended
suspensions
or
expulsions.
When
that
happens,
the
team
that
I
do
oversee
has
an
opportunity
to
go
to
schools
and
to
meet
with
those
families
to
give
them
their
procedural,
due
process,
to
provide
adequate
supports
to
the
schools
and,
of
course,
mentorship
and
to
build
the
capacity
of
our
school
leaders
through
the
investigation
process.
B
We
want
to
make
sure
that
if
there
are
any
special
education
needs
or
students
with
504
plans
that
they
get
their
supports,
that
we're
looking
through
their
behavior
intervention
plans
that
we
are
supporting
schools,
then,
through
their
transition
back
to
school
through
readmission,
to
pretty
much
mitigate
the
issue
and
that
we
have
zero
recidivism
upon
their
return.
And
then
we
put
them
back
on
track
to
graduate
and
become
better
citizens
in
a
career
and
Workforce
ready
expectation
after
graduation.
C
C
We
also
May
sit
down
and
have
a
conversation
with
them
about
how
to
coordinate
that
service.
If
they
don't
know
how
to
go
about
doing
it,
because
one
of
the
issues
that
our
parents
have
with
the
central
office
in
general,
is
they
don't
necessarily
know
how
to
navigate
through
some
of
the
processes
that
we
have
here?
So
because
we
have
worked
multiple
positions
as
Educators
in
animal
County,
Public,
School
System,
you
know
we
may
be
the
person
that
can
help
them
coordinate
that
service,
that
their
child
needs.
C
The
goal,
ultimately,
is
we
want
that
child
to
return
to
school
is
a
much
more
productive
student
than
they
were
when
we,
you
know,
possibly
had
to
remove
them
from
school
for
a
period
of
time?
Also,
when
we
hold
our
discipline
conferences
at
the
end
of
it,
we
we
talk
about
the
readmission
process.
The
readmission
process
is
that
moment
when
the
student
has
completed
whatever
that
consequence
may
be.
We
then
meet
with
the
student,
the
school
and
the
parent
guardian,
and
we
determine
what
school
you're
going
to
return
to.
C
What
will
the
conditions
be
when
you
return
to
school
and
if
we
have
to
administratively
transfer
you
to
another
school
because
of
a
circumstance
in
your
home
school
we've
been
most
likely
will
hold
that
conference
at
the
new
school
and
meet
the
new
administrative
team.
They
will
put
some
type
of
a
safety
plan
together
to
ensure
that
you
know
when
you
come
into
the
building
you
adjust
to
the
environment
and
once
again
the
goal
is
for
you
to
return
as
a
much
more
productive
student
in
general.
C
D
And
early
schools
provides
several
supports
and
options
for
our
parents
and
students
and
families.
One
thing
when
a
student
gets
to
a
level
where
the
school
has
requested
an
extended
suspension
or
an
expulsion
which
requires
our
office
as
a
Special
Assistant
to
go
out
and
investigate
we're
called
special
assistance,
we're
School
discipline,
hearing
officers
but
I
like
the
term
Special
Assistant,
because
I
I
explained
to
the
parents
and
the
student
and
the
school
in
the
conference.
We
assist
them
specially.
D
So
when
we
go
out
and
we're
investigating
these
cases
and
then
holding
the
hearing,
we're
assisting
the
superintendent,
because
the
request
actually
comes
into
his
office,
he
can't
go
out
to
all
the
schools.
His
assistant
superintendent
has
this
office
and
oversees
us,
and
one
of
us
gets
assigned
to
go
out
so
we're
assisting
them
in
this
process.
And
then
the
conference
we're
assisting
the
school
in
helping
them
make
sure
they
have
all
the
proper
documents
and
everything
a
complete,
thorough
investigation.
D
But
then,
most
importantly,
we
tell
the
students
and
the
parents-
and
this
is
100-
true-
we're
there
to
assist
them
specially,
because
this
is
one
of
the
trickiest
most
difficult
things.
They're
going
to
go
through
a
school
is
asking
for
their
removal.
So
we
want
to
make
sure
that
everything
was
done
above
board
that
they
thoroughly
investigated
that
the
student
receives
due
process
they're
getting
school
work
while
they're
out
so
some
of
the
resources
we
give
and
provide
are
not
just
during
that
investigation
and
hearing
conference.
D
But
after
the
fact,
let's
say
they
get
the
extended
suspension
they're
also
or
if
they
don't
get
the
extended
suspension,
we're
going
to
refer
them
to
some
wonderful
educational
programs
that
our
school
system
has
created.
The
Charles
Leisure
behavioral
programs
have
a
class
for
it's
called
responsible,
Action,
Program,
ADP,
alternative
to
drug
program,
ATP
alternative
tobacco
program.
We
have
a
bias
motivated
course.
We
have
covered
different
areas
of
where
we've
seen
a
need
and
the
courses
are
provided
free
of
charge,
they're
provided
virtually.
D
We
have
different
levels,
so
we
have
an
elementary
program
and
a
person.
A
counselor
goes
right
out
to
the
schools
to
work
with
the
students
one-on-one,
because
you
know
we
tell
the
kids.
You
can't
do
this.
You
can't
do
that,
but
we
want
to
explain
why
and
how
and
give
them
better
strategies
and
skills
to
deal
with
difficult
situations
and
challenging
people.
So
those
programs
are
our
main
support
and
resource,
but
also
in
every
one
of
our
conferences.
We
have
a
several
pages
of
resources.
D
We
give
them
different
programs
in
Anne,
Arundel
County
that
they
can
access
and
if
they
need
additional
help.
Most
of
us
were
former
ppws
and
counselors.
We
know
resources
in
the
area
and
we
we
tap
back
into
those
skills
and
and
just
really
try
to
help
them
through
the
process.
Because
you
know
an
incident
occurred,
they're
kids,
they
did
something.
D
G
Do
I
provide
support
in
my
role
at
program
specialists
in
the
office
of
safe
and
always
School,
it's
a
lot,
and
so
when
I
started
in
this
role,
I
was
doing
with
the
special
assistants
do,
which
is
to
go
out
and
provide
support
in
conducting
interviews
and
and
conferences
for
those
students
who
violated
the
code
of
conduct
investigation.
Then
my
road
morph
into
providing
School
support
as
a
past
principal
assistant,
principal
school
counselor,
a
senior
manager
for
disproportionality
and
discipline.
G
So
if
it's
picking
up
or
walking
and
doing
lunch
duty
or
Walking,
The,
Halls
or
providing
restorative
practices,
support
doing
the
community
building
Circle
that,
for
me,
I
go
in
and
I
just
do
whatever
the
school
needs,
and
that
leaves
me
with
a
smile,
because
I
know
that
I
am
giving
them
the
support
they
need.
They
need
based
on
what
their
needs
are
in
the
building.
One
of
the
other
highlights
of
school
support
is
kids
at
Hope.
G
Kids
at
Hope
is
a
cultural
framework
that
really
dictates
how
we
believe
in
kids,
how
we
support
kids
through
our
relationships
and
how
we
help
kids
to
time
travel
to
a
place
where
they
don't
even
think
exist,
come
back
in
the
presence
and
start
the
work
and
the
journey
of
being
a
success
in
their
journey
of
Anne
Arundel,
County,
Public,
Schools,
kids
with
hope.
I
am
a
treasure
hunter.
That's
what
I
am
so
even
before
I
say:
I
am
a
program.
G
B
Say
to
anyone
about
the
office
of
safe
and
orderly
schools
with
regards
to
the
appreciation
of
the
work
is
we're
human
too?
We're
parents
first,
as
I
said
at
the
onset
along
with
that
we
come
with
over
120
years
worth
of
experience
in
terms
of
my
team.
In
addition
to
that,
we
are
here
to
support
families,
to
provide
resources,
to
rehabilitate
and
to
provide
interventions
and
support
and
and
the
work
is
uncomfortable
at
times.
But
it
has
to
be
done
because
the
priority
is
the
safety
and
the
educational
opportunities
that
students
should
be
in
school.
B
But
more
than
that,
we
come
to
work
with
open-mindedness
and
we
look
to
provide
Diversified
and
Equitable
institution
of
discipline
if
it
has
to
happen
intervention
if
it
has
to
happen
but
more
or
less
equal
access
and,
of
course,
procedural
due
process
to
students
who
do
fall
in
our
office
and
have
to
go
through
a
process
that
may
be
uncomfortable
for
a
while.
But
through
the
process
they
normally
come
through
to
be
better
students
and
and
graduate
from
Anne
Arundel
County
Public
Schools.
C
So
what
I
think
that
people
should
know
about
our
office-
and
they
should
be
appreciative
of
it-
is
the
fact
that
each
of
my
colleagues
have
worked
multiple
positions
in
leadership
in
animal
County
public
school
system.
So
we
have
a
lot
of
experience
when
it
comes
to
working
with
students
and
families.
We
have
a
lot
of
resources
that
we
have
used
over
the
years
and
we
can
provide
those
resources
through
coordination.
C
C
I
have
to
be
fair
and
objective
in
my
presentation
in
the
conference,
so
I'm
not
working
just
for
the
school
I'm,
not
just
advocating
for
the
family
I'm
there
to
make
sure
that
both
sides
understand
what
the
process
is
and
what
options
they
both
have
and
coming
to
a
conclusion
in
terms
of
what's
going
to
happen,
so
my
role
is
I
like
it
to
be
a
little
less
formal,
more
informal
I
like
that
good
eye
contact
from
the
student,
because
I
want
to
make
sure
we
understand
each
other.
C
D
People
should
know
what
our
office
does,
because
it's
not
just
the
discipline
office,
we
don't
just
go
put
kids
out
of
school
and
that's
what
I
think
people
think
sometimes
do
we
go
and
investigate
serious
incidents
and
requests
for
extended
suspensions
and
expulsion.
Yes,
we
do
because
someone
needs
to
do
it.
We
have
to
keep
our
schools
safe,
number
one
priority
of
any
superintendent,
safe
education.
So
it's
very
important
that
we
have
this
job,
but
with
that
said,
it's
also
very
important
that
we
go
out
and
we
use
our
skills.
D
We
were
teachers,
we
were
counselors,
we
were
ppws
administrators.
We
use
our
20-plus
years
of
working
in
schools
to
our
benefit
to
help
the
student,
the
parent,
the
school.
Through
this
process,
we
have
our
lives,
we
have
families,
we
have
kids,
we
know
the
importance
of
your
children.
We
want
to
make
sure
that
all
of
these
kids
are
treated
fairly
and
equitably
and
receive
due
process,
but
we
also
want
to
help
them
learn
how
to
do
better.
D
Next
time,
our
office
works
very
hard
to
help
everybody
to
make
sure
that
their
education
is
continued
and
to
get
them
back.
On
track,
whether
their
sanction
be
10
days,
11
days
or
45.,
it's
important
to
recognize
the
seriousness
of
issues
in
our
school
system,
any
school
system,
but
it's
also
very
important
to
recognize
the
needs
of
the
students
and
the
family
and
with
our
diverse
backgrounds
and
areas
of
student
Support
Services.
D
G
I
love
the
present,
that
is
an
awesome
initiative
and
I'm
so
glad
that
our
superintendent,
Dr
Bedell
had
the
thinking
the
thought
of
how
to
create
relationships
within
our
system.
You
know
for
a
long
time,
parents
community
members
often
were
not
happy
about
not
being
allowed
to
come
into.
Our
schools
be
present,
provides
that
opportunity.
G
What
I
love
about
it
is
that
it
presents
an
opportunity
for
the
community
to
connect
in
a
positive
manner,
with
students
and
staff
I,
often
joke
with
Dr
Bedell,
because
he
says
be
present,
then
I've
added
be
present
and
Beyond,
and
that
Beyond
piece
is
the
mentoring
piece
that,
of
course,
now
we
have
an
individual
Andre
Dillon
who
is
in
charge
of
our
mentoring
program.
But
the
beyond,
for
me,
is
that
mentoring
piece,
and
so,
as
our
volunteers
come
in,
they
build
relationships
with
students.
G
Hopefully
they
will
adopt
the
school
and
they'll
stay
with
that
student
all
through
their
Journey,
whether
it's
Elementary
to
middle
middle
to
high.
But
what
I'm
thinking
is
that
Beyond
peace
is
that
mentoring
piece.
It's
that
that
student,
that
graduates
and
comes
back
to
their
be
present
volunteer
and
says:
hey
I
want
to
go
into
cyber
security.
What
do
you
have
for
me?
I
know,
that's
how
you
work,
and
so
what
happens?
Is
those
students
come
back?
G
They
in
turn
with
their
be
present
volunteer,
and
then
they
come
back
to
Anne,
Arundel
County
and
hopefully
increase
our
Workforce,
because
now
they're
coming
back
to
the
county
to
work
in
jobs,
so
I
love
the
present.
It
is
all
about
hope.
It's
all
about
relationships,
it's
all
about
Community,
homeschool,
Community
connections
that
create
an
opportunity
for
our
students
to
be
successful
and
to
see
themselves
in
our
County
in
the
workforce,
foreign.
B
That
is
why
it
is
so
very
important
that
we
take
opportunities
to
get
into
schools
to
be
accessible
to
our
school
leaders,
to
our
teachers,
to
walk
the
halls
with
our
colleagues
and
to
familiarize
ourselves
with
the
lay
of
the
land
in
schools,
to
build
relationships
with
our
students
to
allow
them
to
come
up
and
ask
questions
to
be
real
and
and
just
have
fun
with
that.
But
with
that
as
well
another
typical
day,
it
would
be
to
serve
as
a
support
system.
Our
office
touches
student
Support
Services.
We
touch
the
multi-tiered
systems
of
support.
B
We
we
have
conversations
with
our
other
choice:
options,
offices,
the
office
of
special
ed,
our
high
schools,
middle
and
and
elementary
schools.
We
provide
one-on-one
consults.
We
work
with
schools
to
do
many
PDS
around
the
work
and
at
a
larger
scale,
we're
called
upon
to
provide
help
through
conferences
and
things
where
we
give
the
larger
body
or
the
mass
group
information
about
the
work,
so
that
they're
clear
in
the
direction
that
they
need
to
go
if
they
have
to
utilize
the
office
of
safe
and
orderly
schools.
C
A
successful
day
for
me
would
be
the
fact
that
I
would
go
to
the
school
meet
with
the
family.
I
would
provide
them
with
the
best
service
that
I
possibly
could
the
student
responds
in
an
appropriate
manner.
The
parent
feels
comfortable
at
the
end
of
the
conference.
The
school
feels
comfortable
being
at
a
conference.
Sometimes
the
result
is
a
difficult
result.
That's
based
on
the
findings
in
the
investigation.
If
the
student
admits
to
it
that
this
is
what
I
did.
However,.
C
D
D
Success
is
when
I
get
there
and
the
school
has
the
packet
ready
and
the
witnesses
I
want
to
interview
are
in
school
and
we
have
a
nice
smooth
conference.
Sometimes
people
come
in
rightfully
so
they're
very
upset
they
I
mean
who
would
be
happy
if
a
school
is
wanting
their
child
removed?
Nobody,
so
the
first
thing
we
try
to
do
is
make
the
situation
A
little
better
explain
to
the
parent.
The
process.
D
Sometimes
a
good
day
is
when
everything
goes
smoothly,
or
sometimes
a
good
day
is
when
things
start
off
not
smoothly,
but
then
by
the
end
of
the
conference,
you
feel,
like
everyone
feels
a
little
bit
better
about
the
situation.
You
know,
I
was
a
counselor
I
care
about
the
people
and
I
want
them
to
be
okay.
You
know,
like
I,
said:
I
would
be
unhappy
if
my
child
was
put
up
for
an
extended
suspension.
I
get
that,
but
I
want
to.
Let
them
know
they're
not
alone
in
this
situation.
D
So
someone
me
a
third
party
independent,
unbiased
person
who
does
not
work
at
that
school
is
coming
out
to
get
all
the
information
and
make
sure
that
everything
was
done
properly
and
that
we
move
forward
through
the
process.
So
a
good
day
is
when
you
feel
like
you,
helped
someone
through
the
process
or
made
a
difference,
and
then
you
know,
of
course,
I
have
a
great
department,
so
I
enjoy
my
colleagues
I
like
working
with
all
of
them.
D
Sometimes
when
we
don't
have
a
case
and
we're
writing
up
the
cases
it's
a
fun
day
as
well
or
a
good
day,
because
you
you
get
some
time
to
have
some.
You
know
colleague,
time
oftentimes,
we're
out
and
about
going
to
schools,
just
doing
the
conferences
and
doing
the
work,
and
that's
not
always
that
fun.
But
it's
it's
positive
when
you
feel
like
you,
helped
them
through
the
process
and
that
we're
going
to
get
them
their
education.
The
best
way
we
can
or
word.
G
Success
and
what
a
successful
day
looks
like
to
me,
but
let's
break
down
success.
What
does
that
mean
that
looks
different
for
everyone
and
what
I
say
to
students,
but
sex
happens
every
moment
of
the
day,
every
second
every
minute,
every
hour
every
day,
and
so
for
me,
success
is
putting
a
smile
on
students
or
staff
Faces
by
the
way
I
engage
with
them
by
the
way
that
I
create
an
opportunity
for
them
to
see
themselves
and
to
see
themselves
in
the
works
success.
G
Success
is
going
into
schools
and
seeing
students
are
happy
getting
along
and
or
using
restorative
practices,
to
create
an
opportunity
to
resolve
differences
that
they're
having
with
their
teachers
or
with
their
classmates
success.
Success
is
all
staff
and
all
buildings
creating
an
equitable
opportunity
for
all
of
our
students
to
thrive
within
each
building
and
to
be
successful.
Success
is
just
everyday
things.
Smiles
on
everyone's
face
accept
the
class
for
me.
