be
difficult
to
navigate
in
1972,
the
first
federal
education
for
all
handicapped
children.
Act

passed

it
has
been
reauthorized
many
times
the
most
recent
in
2004
as
the
individuals
with
disabilities,
education,
improvement,
act
of
2004
or
the
idea

the

the

the

the
student
through
specially
designed
instruction.

processes

school
level,

collaborative
decision

team

problem-solving
processes.

teams
will
review

interventions
for
academics
and
or
behavior.
There
are
also
other
strategies
and
plans

may
be
put
in
place
that
can
address
your
concerns.

Federal
and
state
regulations
require
that
there
be
a
written
referral
to
begin
the
special
education
process
that
referral
may
come
from
a
staff,
member
or
a
parent
or
guardian
under
federal
and
state
law.
Those
are
the
only
two
parties
that
can
initiate
a
referral
to
begin.
The
special
education
process
put
your
request
in
writing
to
the
staff
at
your
child's
school
to
the
principal
counselor
or
teacher.

iep
process
timeline
in
maryland
the
eligibility
process
begins
with
the
initial
date.
The
student
is
referred
and
ends
with
the
eligibility
determination
within
that
time
frame.
Screening
occurs
and
testing
may
or
may
not
happen
in
maryland.
There
are
60
days
from
the
date
written
consent
to
assess
is
received
or
90
days
from
the
date.
The
referral
is
made,
whichever
is
shorter,
to
complete
the
eligibility
determination.

the
student
must
be
identified
under
one
of
the
14
educational
eligibility
codes.
There
must
be
adverse
educational
impact
in
the
school
setting
and
the
student
must
require
specialized
instruction,
which
was
defined
as
modification
to

instruction
in
order
to
access
and
progress
in
the
curriculum.
