A
A
B
You
tell
me
a
little
bit
about
yourself
sure
my
name
is
Jodi
I
see
like
you
mentioned
I'm,
the
I
have
the
privilege
to
be
the
supervisor
for
food
and
nutrition
services
here
in
Anne,
Arundel
County,
Public,
Schools
I'm,
also
the
mom
of
two
girls
that
go
to
Anne
Arundel,
County,
Public
Schools
and
a
registered
dietitian.
So
my
training
of
knowing
nutrition
and
knowing
fruits
and
vegetables
and
the
foods
that
we
eat
and
serve
are
what
brought
me
here
to
the
county
over
24
years
ago.
All.
B
A
B
Meal
as
a
mom
of
two
that
do
eat
school
meals
and
the
registered
dietitian
first
and
foremost,
its
nutritional
value
is
why
they
should
join
us
all
of
our
school
meals.
I
still
do
the
menus,
so
we
look
at
fruits
and
vegetables
and
whole
grains
and
proteins
on
all
of
the
meals.
We
serve
milk
with
each
meal,
so
everything
is
so
packed
with
nutrition
and
it
really
has
our
students,
fueled
for
learning
and
fueled
for
activity.
So
to
be
able
to
come
to
us,
have
a
very
economical
meal.
B
B
So
we'll
start
with
breakfast.
So
if
you
join
us
for
breakfast
in
Anne,
Arundel
County
and
all
the
schools
offer
breakfast,
we
offer
them
two
grains
and
it's
all
whole
grains.
So
it
could
be
something
like
cereal.
It
could
be
a
granola
bar.
It
could
be
a
graham
cracker
there's
some
of
the
grain
choices,
it's
all
cold
or
continental.
So
we
serve
things
that
are
quick
and
easy
to
pick
up
either
have
in
the
cafeteria
have
in
the
classroom,
or
sometimes
we
just
serve
them
after
first
period
and
it's
on
the
go.
B
They
also
have
the
option
of
having
a
fresh
fruit
or
dried
fruit,
a
fruit
juice
and
a
choice
of
milk.
So
we
offer
a
fat-free
chocolate,
a
fat-free
strawberry
and
just
a
1%
in
a
fat-free,
no
flavor
milk.
So
really
a
good
variety
for
breakfast
and
something
to
get
them
going
for
lunch.
We
offer
five
different
components
so
lunch
they
get
to
offer.
We
offer
them
two
ounces
of
protein.
It
could
be
chicken,
it
could
be
beef,
we
even
have
falafel,
so
we
do
all
different
items.
B
B
So
we
really
highlight
at
least
eight
options
of
fruits
and
vegetables,
often
local
in
the
students
when
they
go
through
our
lines,
they're
able
to
select
as
many
fruits
and
vegetables
as
they
would
like
to
fill
their
tray
Wow
and
we
always
say,
fill
it
half
with
fruits
and
vegetables,
just
like
my
plate
and
it's
a
great
nutrition
tool
to
use
both
at
school
and
at
home.
Yeah.
B
B
Obviously
we
have
a
tray,
so
ours
is
not
circled,
but
it
shows
the
plate
and
we
really
we
specify
where's
the
protein
where's,
the
grain
they're
all
whole-grain,
like
even
our
rice,
our
our
pizza
crust
is
whole-grain,
so
we
really
highlight
those
items,
and
then
we
show
the
dairy
component
being
the
milk
and
the
unlimited
fruits
and
vegetables.
So
when
they're
making
their
plate
we're,
often
nudging
and
we're
saying
you
know,
would
you
like
some
more
fruits
and
vegetables?
Would
you
like
to
try
Kiwi?
B
Would
you
like
to
try
roasted
butternut
squash,
so
I
think
exactly
what
they're
doing
it's
at
school
is
what
a
mom
or
dad
at
home
can
do
or
a
grandparent
and
aunt
and
uncle
yeah
is
really
say.
What
did
you
have
at
school
today
and
how
did
you
fill
your
plate
with
fruits
and
vegetables?
So
it's
a
really
good
way
to
engage
your
family
engage
while
having
dinner
right
or
lunch
or
breakfast
and
really
spark
the
interest
to
see
what
are
they
eating
at
school?
B
Are
they
trying
those
fruits
and
vegetables
into
so
often
they'll
say?
Oh,
there
was
no
fruits
and
vegetables
today
and
role
model,
I,
think
role
modeling
for
parents
watching
it's
so
key
I'm
often
asked
you
know
how
do
your
children
eat
like
this,
and
how
do
you
get
your
girls
to
do
this?
Well,
we
eat
like
that.
We
don't
make
separate
meals
for
them,
so
I
really
mimic
again,
all
those
same,
how
the
food
components,
the
protein,
the
grain,
the
fruit
and
the
vegetable
and
what
we
do
at
home.
B
A
B
Students,
our
staff
and
we've
been
doing
it
for
years.
We've
been
doing
it
since
about
2007
yeah,
so
we
really
do
have
salad
bars
everywhere
and
the
local
is
so
key
for
us.
So
we
really
try
to
incorporate
local
produce
as
much
as
we
can.
Our
milk
is
also
from
many
local
dairies
and
we
know
the
the
milk
that
our
our
children
and
the
students
are
consuming,
but
the
fruits
and
the
vegetables
it's
so
fun.
B
For
instance,
we
just
did
bok
choy,
so
we
have
a
local
farmer
and
he's
in
Salisbury
Maryland
and
he
grows
bok
choy.
So
what
better
way
to
expose
our
students
to
bok
choy
and
we
do
roasted
butternut
squash,
we
do
acorn
squash,
we
do
Brussels
sprouts,
it's
really
the
colors
of
the
rainbow
and
that's
probably
another
big
big
tip
is
when
you're
preparing
meals
at
home,
just
like
we
do
at
school.
Look
at
the
colors
of
the
rainbow.
B
So
when
we
look
at
our
fruits
and
vegetable
really
the
vegetables,
we
always
have
a
dark,
green
vegetable,
a
rat
or
an
orange
vegetable.
We
always
look
at
some
legumes,
so
we
do
black
beans.
We
do
vegetarian
beans,
any
kind
of
bean
that
you
can
add
into
a
mix
or
just
do
it
solo,
and
then
we
do
an
other
vegetable.
We
kind
of
let
some
of
our
some
potatoes
go.
They
are
very
infrequently,
but
sometimes
we
do
just
green
beans
or
we
do
corn
things
like
that
yeah,
but
it's
really
fun.
A
A
B
They
said
kids
will
never
eat
roasted
butternut
squash,
and
not
only
is
it
really
good
and
roast
I
mean
we've
roast
so
many
vegetables
in
Anne,
Arundel
County,
but
it's
local
yeah.
So
we
have
Schlegel
farms
as
one
of
our
local
farms
in
Waldorf
Maryland.
He
grows
the
Acorn
in
the
butternut.
He
grows
so
many
items
for
us.
So
it's
so
awesome
to
be
able
to
be
on
the
farm
and
see
all
of
this
great
product
and
then
have
it
picked,
come
right
to
our
schools
and
we
roast
it
and
serve
it.
Wow.
B
So
a
lot
of
our
apples
are
all
from
Colora
orchards,
so
that's
also
in
Cecil,
County
we've
been
buying
from
them
also
for
years.
Baywater
farms
is
another
one
of
our
local
farms
and
McGhee
farms.
We
recently
had
a
trip
to
Pfeiffer
orchards
or
Pfeiffer
farms
and
that's
in
Delaware.
So
when
we
look
at
what
is
local
for
us
in
Anne
Arundel
County,
we
look
at
about
a
hundred
and
fifty
miles.
B
We
are
branching
out
to
go
to
maybe
200
miles
shortly
and
maybe
even
250,
because
a
lot
of
our
protein
is
coming
from
about
250.
So
a
lot
of
our
chicken
farms
are
about
250
miles
away.
So
we
really
are
looking
at
incorporating
local
as
much
as
we
can
and
as
often
as
we
can
in
the
best
way
is
to
highlight
a
farmer.
While
we
do
it
and
I
know,
we
talked
a
little
bit
before
about
tasting
in
the
rainbow,
so
a
parent
can
look
at
tasting
in
the
rainbow
on
YouTube.
B
All
of
the
children
get
to
see
it
in
an
around
County
Public
Schools,
and
it's
really
a
great
way
to
educate
our
students
about
a
new,
fresh
fruit
or
vegetable.
It's
always
about
the
colors
of
the
rainbow
and
for
some
students
that
maybe
have
never
seen
bok
choy
or
white.
We
did
white
asparagus,
Wow
we've
done
asparagus,
even
traditional
green
we've
done
purple
cauliflower
yeah.
B
So
it's
a
great
way
to
say
know:
your
farmer
know
where
your
food
comes
from
and
it's
just
so
healthy,
it's
healthy
for
us
and
what
we
serve
our
students,
but
we're
also
impacting
the
farmer
in
a
very
positive
way.
So
we're
really
keeping
all
of
our
money
going
back
locally
and
often
there
are
farms
of
5th
and
6th
and
7th
generations.
B
A
Okay,
so
wow
that's
a
lot
and
going
back
to
tasting
of
the
rainbow,
because
that
sounds
really
exciting.
I
just
want
to
know
a
little
bit
more
about
that,
and
also
when
students
see
tasting
of
the
rainbow
and
because,
as
parent
I
may
want
to
ask
my
student
what
was
on
tasting
of
the
rainbow
perfect.
B
So
it's
offered
the
first
Friday
in
all
schools,
so
all
schools
in
around
the
county,
public
schools,
get
to
I'm
celebrate
it's
one,
simple
item.
So,
for
instance,
the
bok
choy
is
what
we
most
recently
had,
but
every
student
who
comes
through
or
adult
right.
So
any
customer
who
really
comes
through
our
line
if
they
purchase
a
school
lunch,
they
get
a
sample
of
this.
So
the
first
time
we
did
brussel
sprouts,
we
steamed
them
and
the
students
were
like
yeah.
It's
ok.
B
Now
we
roast
them
and
we
put
some
balsamic
glaze
on
them
and
it's
part
of
our
menu
item.
But
everybody
who
comes
through
always
the
first
Friday
they
get
to
sample
it
and
they
get
to
watch
a
video.
So
the
video
is
our
education
piece
and
it's
really
the
way
to
connect
to
the
farmer,
to
the
student
to
Food
and
Nutrition
Services
and
keeping
that
healthy
message
embedded.
They
get
to
learn
fun,
facts
about
the
item
that
they're
testing.
They
also
get
to
learn,
nutritional
facts
about
it.
B
B
Sure
the
Brooklyn
Park
farmers
market,
we
worked
with
the
Department
of
Health
it
we
started
three
years
ago
and
we
looked
at
a
map
of
our
county
and
we
noticed
there
is
a
food
desert
up
in
the
northern
part
of
our
county.
So
what
that
means
for
someone
watching
is
that
the
families
up
there
didn't
have
access
to
healthy
fruits
and
vegetables.
So
we
elected
to
put
a
farmers
market
in
conjunction
with
Schlegel
Farms
in
the
Department
of
Health
at
Brooklyn
Park
middle
school.
B
This
is
also
a
summer
site,
so
we
provide
free
summer
meals
at
this
site.
So
we
took
a
mobile
market
to
the
same
site
where
we
were
able
to
allow
fruits
vegetables.
We
have
the
police
department
join
us,
the
Department
of
Health
comes
and
they
do
planting
fruits
and
vegetables.
They
talk
about
nutrition,
education,
healthy
eating,
physical
activity
and
then
our
library,
media
specialists
and
the
Anne
Arundel
County
Public
Libraries
also
join
us
and
they
give
away
free
books.
They
do
read
Aloud's,
so
it's
truly
it's
better
than
Disney
and
it's
a
destination.
B
When
you
come
to
the
market
and
it's
in
my
it's
offered
in
Mondays
throughout
the
summer
you
get
full
enrichment,
you
get
to
have
a
free
summer
meal,
you
get
fruits
and
vegetables.
You
get
to
read
a
book,
you
get
to
meet
the
police
officers
this
year,
you're
gonna
meet
the
fire
department
and
you
get
to
learn
about
nutrition
and
physical
activity.
So
it's
a
win-win
for
the
whole
community.
Yeah.
A
Wow,
that
sounds
like
an
amazing
opportunity
for
the
Brooklyn
Park
community
and
anyone
who
can
travel
up
there,
but
this
has
been
incredibly
informative,
Jody.
Thank
you.
So
much
for
being
a
part
of
the
show.
Thank
you
for
having
me
it's
my
pleasure
and
thank
you
for
tuning
in
until
next
time.
This
