Description
Kathy Speaks with Sandy Owen from the County Library about "SAIL" and the 2017 Summer Reading Program
A
Books,
music
movies,
homework,
help
storytimes
stem
events,
training
resources
and
more
and
all
for
free.
Does
it
sound
too
good
to
be
true?
Well,
it's
happening
every
day
in
our
Anne
Arundel
County
Public
Library's,
whether
you
are
a
regular
library,
user
or
don't
yet
even
have
your
library
card,
there's
always
something
new
to
learn
about
what
the
library
has
to
offer.
We
look
with
sandy
Owen
from
our
county's
public
library
system,
about
getting
the
most
out
of
your
local
library
branch
and
to
see
what's
coming
up
for
this
year's
summer
reading
program.
A
B
A
B
We're
very
fortunate
because
we
have
15
branches
that
are
scattered
throughout
the
county.
So
even
if
you
live
in
the
southernmost
enter
the
northernmost
end,
you
could
find
a
branch,
but
we
also
have
another
branch,
which
is
very
exciting,
which
is
our
virtual
branch
and
that
branch
can
be
reached
either
with
a
if
you
have
an
internet
connection
at
home
up
with
your
computer.
If
you
have
mobile
devices
like
a
smartphone
or
a
tablet,
you
can
simply
download
the
a
a
CPL
app
and
you
can
get
an
access
to
the
library
that
way
and.
B
A
B
B
Public
libraries
are
not
only
important,
for
students
are
important
for
everybody.
We
have
a
vast
source
of
all
kinds
of
resources
that
are
so
useful
and
a
lot
of
times.
People
don't
know
that
they
can
have
access
to
all
this
information.
There's
course
we
have
books,
ebooks
and
magazines
and
dvds
DVDs
and
all
these
different
things,
but
you
have
access
to
all
these
different
databases
that
the
library
subscribes
to,
and
you
can
do
things
like
take
class
on
Linda
like
you
might
take
up.
B
A
B
B
A
B
I'm
going
to
read
here
so
I
don't
get
it
messed
up.
Sale
is
our
virtual
library
card
student
access
to
improve,
learn
and
what
it
is.
It's
a
virtual
card
and
actually
the
we've
had
partnered
exclusively
with
Anne
Arundel
County
public
school
system
to
create
this
card
so
how
every
student's
that's
enrolled
in
Anne,
Arundel,
County,
Public
Schools
has
a
card
and
they
can
access
this.
B
You
have
to
know
your
the
sale
account
starts
with
two
1997,
which
is
that
denotes
in
arundel,
county
public
library
and
then
there's
23
other
numbers,
0
8
0,
and
then
you
end
with
your
six
digit
student,
ID
number
and
any
student
can
should
know,
there's
ID
number.
If
they
don't,
they
can
get
it
from
their
teacher.
When
you
get
in
you
can
you
have
a
password
which
you
can
change
if
you
want
to,
but
it's
very
easy,
it's
your
birthday.
B
So
it
would
be
the
child's
birthday
so
it's
month
day
year
to
get
in
and
you
can
access
everything
all
the
databases
for
research
brainfuse
for
homework
help,
and
there
is
online
tutoring
available.
Ebooks
audiobooks,
linda,
which
I
spoke
about
before
the
rosetta
stone,
which
is
a
learn,
a
language
knowledge,
which
is
a
great,
really
great
benefit.
Of
course
you
can
get
into
the
library
catalog
and
you
can,
how
you
get
in
is
to
download
the
library
app
on
your
phone
or
your
or
your
tablet.
B
And
then,
when
you
do
that,
then
you
can
get
in
good.
Put
in
you'll,
go
right
into
the
catalog,
and
our
our
website
is
www,
a
CPL
dotnet,
of
course,
and
that's
what
you
type
in
on
your
home
computer
up
as
well
and
her.
So
what
you're,
seeing
in
the
if
you
use
an
app
or
whether
you
go
in
on
your
home
computer,
is
basically
the
same
catalog.
Okay,
so.
A
If
I
understand
correctly,
every
student
in
the
county
right
now
from
kindergarten
through
12th
grade,
has
a
preset
up
Salek
out.
Yes
on
those
numbers
that
you
had
said,
plus
their
student
number
when
they
go
in,
they
just
need
to
enter
their
password,
which
is
currently
their
birth
date,
and
they
have
access
to
any
of
the
library's
online
resources
from
that
sale
account.
Yes,.
B
A
A
B
We're
focusing
on
now
is
the
sale
account
because
there's
some
special
privileges
with
the
sale
account.
Okay,
you
can
check
out
up
to
three
items
without
fines.
Of
course,
the
books
or
items
has
to
be
returned
or
you
will
at
some
point
or
you
will
have
to
pay
for
a
lost
item.
And
so,
when
you
come
into
the
library,
you
could
just
tell
the
librarian
that
you're
in
a
a
CPS
student
and
and
then
give
them
that
your
student
ID,
number
and
they'll
type
in
the
rest
and
get
you
right
in
and
clearing
out
and.
A
And
the
benefit
of
the
new
finds
is,
for
example,
I
would
imagine
if
you
have
a
student
who's,
a
younger
student
and
just
moving
into
chapter
books.
It
needs
a
little
bit
of
a
longer
time
period
than
the
three-week
typical
checkout
time
to
finish
that
book,
then
they
can
keep
that
out
for
longer
with
no
fines.
That's.
A
B
B
Okay
and
the
kids
actually
sometimes
that
access
internal
county,
public
library
when
they're
in
school,
yes-
and
we
really
have
worked
very
hard
to
partner
with
the
teachers
and
the
librarians
and
the
reading
specialists-
to
create
this
great
partnership
so
that
it
really
will
give
the
kids
access
to
the
information
they
they
need
to
have
really
to
succeed
in
school
to
our
our
library,
motto
is
to
educate
and
enrich,
and
what
was
the
other
thing?
I
can't
remember
now,
but
that's
okay,
no.
A
A
B
Called
build
a
better
world,
so
we'll
be
focusing
on
a
lot
of
different
things.
Some
stem
things
that
building
aspect,
but
you
can
also
build
a
better
world
by
taking
care
of
your
planet
like
ecology,
they're,
just
it
can
go
anyway.
Building
a
better
world
can
be
becoming
a
better
person
being
kind
to
others,
and
so
we
will
have
programs
and
activities
that
will
be
designed
to
work
on
those
or
stress
those
things
that
work
on
those
things
and,
of
course
we
will
be
stressing
readings
and
there
will
be
a
program
well.
B
First
of
all,
let
me
tell
you
what
we
want
the
children
to
do.
They
can
go
in
right
now
because
too,
with
their
sale
account
and
they
can
click
on
summer
reading,
it
will
be
either
listed
under
events
or
on
the.
If
you
go
in
on
the
mobile
wireless,
you
can
you'll
see
like
a
little
icon
next
summer,
Lamar.
A
B
Last
year,
with
our
online
registration
system
and
being
back,
if
you
get
the
app
go
into
being
stacked
and
register,
then
you'll
be
ready,
offset
to
sign
up
for
summer
reading
program
when
it
opens,
which
is
June
first
and
first,
okay
and
the
thing
I
think
that
it
is,
if
you
go
in
now,
when
you
go
in
being
stack,
you
can
go
in
yourself
or
you
can
go
and
your
parent
can
go
in
if
you're,
not
old
enough
to
know
to
do
it.
Your
self
share.
B
You
get
a
choice
of
preferences,
it's
kind
of
a
readers
advisory
tool.
So
when
kids,
you
know
you
yes,
there,
you
have
a
little
girl
who
likes
princesses
and
then
she
also
likes
I,
don't
know
dancing
ballet
or
something
like
that.
You
can
click
on
these
different
interests
and
then,
when
you
did,
the
program
will
suggest
but
I.
A
A
B
B
A
I
love
that
book
recommendation
to
because
I
constantly
have
friends
asking
oh
I
have
a
you
know:
I
have
a
son
I
have
a
daughter
who
I'm
trying
to
get
to
encourage
to
read
more
but
I,
don't
know
what
what
books
they
would
be
interested
in
or
what's
appropriate,
though.
Based
on
what
you
said,
you
could
search
by
the
child's
own
interest
and
find
things
that
they
might
want
to
read.
B
B
There's
other
ways
you
can
do
that
too.
Of
course,
we
always
have
our
wonderful
staff
in
the
branches
who
are
trained
to
you
know
just
go
in
and
ask
them
usually
ask
you
if
the
child
something
well,
what
do
you
really
like
and
what
have
you
read
before
and
they
will
give
suggestions?
Another
thing
you
could
do
also
on
the
website.
A
A
Know
it
sounds
like
you
have
so
many
exciting
things
planned
both
virtually
and
also
in
the
branches
so
to
go
in
get
your
child
sale
account.
You
know
make
sure
that
they
know
the
number
for
that
and
start
checking
out
the
summer
reading
program
now,
because
sign
up
what
you
said
is
June.
First,
let.
