Description
New Host, Kate Roos, Interviews Anne Weaver, Office of School & Family Partnerships, About the Upcoming Family Involvement Conference.
A
B
B
B
A
number
of
things,
first
of
all
families
will
get
information
about,
as
I
said
ways
to
help
their
children
do
better
in
school
information
about
curriculum
what
their
children
are,
learning,
how
they
can
help
them
at
home.
Also,
information
about
community
resources
that
help
can
help
support
the
family
and
the
student,
and
also
a
great
chance
to
network
with
other
families.
B
That,
to
me,
is
one
of
the
real
benefits
of
this
conference,
because
there
is
time
for
families
to
talk
to
one
another
at
breakfast,
at
lunch
and
so
on
and
also
share
while
they're
in
their
workshops.
There
also
will
be
information
tables
that
they
can
browse
and
ask
questions
of
people
from
the
school
system.
Departments
such
as
special
education
and
also
from
the
community,
like
the
library
will
have
materials
there.
B
There
also
will
be
a
table
on
information
about
drug
and
alcohol
awareness,
as
well
as
many
others,
so
there's
a
whole
variety
of
things
that
parents
will
be
able
to
get.
We
also
offer
a
number
of
breakout
sessions.
There
will
be
11
topics
and
parents
can
choose
two
of
them
and
what
we
try
to
do
is
plan
for
topics
that
would
interest
parents
who
have
children
from
pre-kindergarten
all
the
way
through
high
school.
B
So
we
try
to
appeal
to
everyone
and
get
lots
and
lots
of
information
out
there,
but
you
don't
only
have
to
be
a
parent
with
a
child
in
a
a
CPS.
In
order
to
come,
we
would
love
to
have
people
from
the
community
attend
anyone,
who's
interested
or
works
with
children,
and
also
we
have
a
growing
number
of
people
who
work
in
the
childcare
community
who
come
and
they
are
able
to
earn
credits
toward
their
certification
by
attending.
The
conference,
which
is
wonderful.
B
We
I
do
have
to
say
that
we
really
could
not
put
this
conference
on
if
it
weren't
for
all
the
partners
that
we
work
with
it's
just
impossible
for
our
small
office
to
do
this
by
ourselves.
So
we
work
with
Anne
Arundel
Community
College
who's
been
a
wonderful
partner
for
years,
we're
able
to
use
their
facilities.
They
provide
funds
for
our
meals
that
day
and
they
also
issue
CEUs
to
everyone
who
comes
and
fills
out
the
registration
papers.
Those
are
continuing
education
units
that
many
people
need
for
their
jobs
or
their
their
continuing
education.
B
B
Pediatrics
has
become
a
partner
in
the
last
couple
of
years
and
they
provide
some
wonderful
speakers
on
topics
related
to
children's
health
and
well-being,
social-emotional
growth
and
so
on.
So
we
have
a
lot
of
partners,
those
plus
our
County
school
system
departments
who
help
us
by
providing
speakers,
information,
information
tables
and
so
on.
So
it
should
be
a
great
conference.
We
get
terrific
feedback
from
parents
and
we
use
the
feedback
every
year
to
design
the
next
year's
conference.
So
we
really
are
listening
to
parents
the
whole
time
yeah
that.
A
B
Families
will
arrive
in
the
morning.
Registration
starts
at
about
8:30
parents.
A
lot
of
people
come
a
little
bit
before
that
they
sign
in,
and
then
they
have
a
cut.
We
have
a
continental
breakfast
for
them.
After
that
we
attend
a
large
group
session
where
there's
a
keynote
speaker
and
we're
very
excited
once
again
this
year
to
have
our
superintendent
dr.,
Earle
Otto,
who
will
be
speaking
on
make
your
moments
count,
which
is
a
terrific
topic,
I,
think
and
very
inspirational
after
that.
B
We'll
go
over
to
another
classroom
building
and
parents
can
choose
to
workshop
sessions
to
go
to
each
less
for
about
an
hour
and
there
will
be
11
different
titles.
They
can
choose
from
so
a
wide
again
a
wide
variety
of
topics
after
they
go
to
their
workshop
sessions.
We'll
come
back
to
the
initial
dining
hall
cafeteria
and
we'll
have
lunch
and
a
chance
to
sit
at
tables
and
talk
to
other
parents
and
interact
with
people
at
the
information
tables.
So
it's
a
full
day,
yeah
yeah.
It
sounds.
B
Again,
as
I
said,
they
get
to
choose
two
and
they
can
choose
them
when
they
get
there
that
day
and
there
are
11
different
titles
and
a
couple
of
them
I'll
mention
I,
won't
mention
all
of
them.
We
have
some
math
mathematics,
resource
teachers
from
the
elementary
level
who
are
going
to
do
a
session
on
elementary
curriculum
and
activities
that
parents
can
do
at
home
to
help
their
children
with
Common
Core
math.
There
will
be
one
session
for
kindergarten
through
second
grade
and
then
another
one
for
third
through
fifth
grade.
B
A
B
We
are
also,
of
course,
thinking
about
high
school
students
and
so
we'll
have
a
session
on
planning
for
college.
There
will
be
a
counselor
from
ACPs
who
will
talk
about
the
kinds
of
things
parents
and
students
need
to
think
about
as
they're
planning
their
course
load
in
high
school
there'll
also
be
an
introduction
to
the
computer
program
Naviance,
which
helps
families,
get
information
about
good
colleges,
the
application
process
and
so
on,
plus
we're
inviting
someone
from
Anne
Arundel
Community
College.
B
Another
very
important
topic
and
timely
topic
is
cyber
safety,
online
safety,
social
media
safety,
we're
having
a
speaker
on
that
and
I
think
there'll
be
some
really
timely
information
because
it
changes
all
the
time
and
the
final
one
I
wanted
to
talk
about
is
you
know
we
have
such
a
ballooning,
opioid
crisis
in
Anne,
Arundel
County
and
there
have
been
a
number
of
community
forums
called,
not
my
child,
so
we're
putting
together
a
pan
of
various
experts
in
various
fields.
To
talk
about
what
the
crisis
is.
B
You
know
what
you
should
be
looking
for
in
your
children
and
then
what
resources
are
available.
If
you
think
there
is
a
problem
there,
so
it's
a
wide
range
of
topics,
I
think
you
know,
parents
always
say,
but
it's
so
hard
for
me
to
choose
which
to
to
go
to
and
I
understand
that.
But
we
want
to
try
to
provide
as
many
different
topics
from
child
development
through
curriculum
to
social,
emotional
growth,
community
resources
and
so
on
for
people
yeah,
yeah.
A
A
B
B
A
good
question:
the
community
college
restricts
a
attendance
in
their
classrooms
to
anyone
over
the
age
of
16,
so
children
younger
than
16,
are
not
allowed
in
classrooms.
However,
we
another
partner
is
the
community
colleges,
Child
Development
Center,
and
they
have
a
capacity
to
provide
care
for
up
to
50
children
and
the
child.
Your
child
needs
to
be
between
the
ages
of
3
and
12
and
must
be
toilet
trained.
We
require
a
pre-registration
for
that,
because
when
we
get
to
50,
unfortunately,
we
have
to
cut
it
off.
B
They
have
regulations,
they
need
to
work
under,
but
the
children
have
a
terrific
day.
They
are
provided
also
with
breakfast
a
snack
and
lunch
and
certified
childcare
professionals
will
be
planning
activities
for
them.
So
I
know
I've
heard
from
parents
that
sometimes
the
children
say
we
want
to
come
back.
We
want
to
come
back
and
that's
one
of
the
reasons
why
they
come
to
the
conference,
because
the
children
are
saying
I.
Remember
this,
it
was
so
much
fun.
Well,.
B
We
will
have
a
couple
of
ways:
people
can
sign
up.
There
will
be
a
flier
that
will
go
out
to
schools,
probably
mid-october.
Every
student
should
get
one
so
watch
the
backpacks
I
know.
Sometimes
children
don't
necessarily
give
you
all
the
papers
that
come
home
but
watch
the
backpacks
for
that
there
will
be
a
tear
off
at
the
bottom
of
that
flier.
So
you
can
mail
that
back
to
our
office,
if
you'd
like
to
do
that,
but
we
will
also
have
registration
information
online
on
that
flier,
so
you
can
register
online.
B
B
They
will
be
there
anyway,
but
if
you
require
an
interpreter
in
a
different
language,
you
can
request
that
on
the
tear
off
sheet
and
also
on
the
online
registration,
and
we
will
be
able
to
provide
interpreters
for
anyone
who
needs
them
that
day.
So
we
really
want
this
conference
to
be
accessed
as
accessible
as
possible
to
everyone.
In
addition,
we'll
be
sending
information
out
to
the
newspaper,
so
community
members
will
be
seeing
that
I'll
be
sending
information
to
the
libraries
to
the
childcare
community
to
the
Fort
Meade
childcare
community
out
there
too.
A
B
I
know
families
are
so
busy,
and
especially
this
time
of
the
year,
with
sports
and
Scouts
and
all
sorts
of
things.
We
asked
the
speakers
to
send
me
all
of
their
handouts
and
any
PowerPoint
presentations.
They
do
and
I
put
that
up
on
our
blackboard
site
and
the
way
you
can
find
that
is
to
go
to
blackboard,
dot,
a
ACPs,
dot,
org
and
there's
a
tab
up
at
the
top
that
says,
parents
and
community.
You
don't
need
a
password
for
that.
