Description
Kate talks with Michelle McConville, Program Coordinator, AACPL about programs that support students.
A
B
I
started
with
Anne
Arundel
County
Public
Library
about
eight
years
ago,
I
started
as
a
part-time
person
and
then
I
went
full
time
and
the
Edgewater
library.
So
I
was
there
for
five
years
and
got
to
present
our
early
childhood
story
times
and
do
book
clubs
and
work
with
our
schools
and
visits,
and
so
I
did
a
lot
of
work
with
children,
mm-hmm
and
then
about
six
months
ago,
I
was
promoted
to
the
programming
coordinator,
Wow.
B
A
B
Never
the
same
day
by
any
means,
I
work
with
an
incredible
team,
and
our
job
is
to
help
coordinate
activities
from
the
community
and
bring
them
to
all
of
our
15
locations
or
16.
If
you
include
our
virtual
services,
so
my
job
is
to
work
with
outside
presenters
and
programmers
and
help
bring
them
into
our
branches.
Okay,.
A
A
B
Absolutely
the
sale
card
is
something
that
we
started
actually
last
school
year
and
it's
actually
an
acronym
for
student
access
to
improved
learning,
and
it
is
a
virtual
library
card
that
every
student
in
Anne
Arundel,
County,
Public
Schools,
has
it
is
connected
with
their
student
ID
number
and
that
card
gives
them
fine,
free
checkouts
for
up
to
three
items.
So
they
can
check
books
out
for
three
weeks
if
they
forget
to
turn
it
in,
they
aren't
penalized
with
any
of
our
fines.
It
also
gives
them
full
access
to
all
of
our
premium
resources.
B
All
of
our
online
resources,
particularly
our
homework,
help
we
have
a
homework
Center
and
within
that
we
have
online
tutoring
that
is
available
from
2:00
p.m.
until
midnight
seven
days
a
week
for
all
grades,
all
subjects
the
tutoring
is
handled
by
certified
teachers
and
all
subjects.
So
it's
really
something
for
students
to
take
advantage
of
wow.
A
B
B
A
A
B
B
A
B
Can
look
them
up,
they
can
give
us
their
student
ID
number
and
can
look
them
up
that
way
to
use
any
of
the
online
resources
from
home.
They
can
it's
a
combination
of
our
number
and
then
their
student
ID
number,
and
so
they
can
call
one
of
the
branches
to
get
our
information
and
it's
also
available
on
the
website.
Wow.
A
B
Do
we
have
an
educator
card
and
with
that
that
is
available
for
any
teacher
in
Anne,
Arundel
County,
Public
Schools?
They
can
just
go
into
any
of
our
branches
to
sign
up
and
the
educator
card
is
another
fine
free
card
and
teachers
can
checkout
up
to
99
items
on
this
card.
They
get
an
extended
checkout,
so
they
get
a
six-week
checkout
instead
of
the
three
weeks
and
they
can
renew
their
items
two
times,
so
they
can
actually
have
materials
for
their
classrooms
for
12
weeks.
B
A
B
Just
a
standard
library
card,
so
they
could,
they
will
have
access
to
any
of
the
online
resources
as
well,
so
they
could
use
it
for
to
access
ebooks
or
electronic
audiobooks
in
the
classrooms.
But
there
is
also
any
of
the
databases
that
we
have.
They
could
have
access
to
those
as
well
where's
that
a
stone
if
they
want
their
kids
working
with
rosetta
stone
they
could
sign
in
with
that
or
the
kids
could
use
their
sail
card
to.
A
A
B
Year
we
are
once
again
partnering
for
the
read
with
me
challenge
month
and
if
we
have
five
branches
that
will
be
hosting
events
during
January
and
for
families
to
come
in
pick
out
materials,
obviously
that
they
can
use
to
read
together
and
I
know.
The
challenge
has
different
genres,
so
there's
poetry,
books
and
nonfiction
books
and
read
something
by
a
female
author
things
like
that.
B
A
C
B
A
B
Doing
more
stem
stuff
all
the
time
we
have
3d
printers
at
five
of
our
branches
that
were
provided
with
funds
from
our
library
foundation,
as
well
as
the
Laurel
racetrack
impact
committee
and
with
those
3d
printers.
We
have
workshops
on
how
to
use
three
print
3d
printing,
how
to
use
some
of
the
software
that
you
can
go
along
with
them,
but
they
are
also
available
for
public
use.
So
the
public
can
bring
in
projects
on
a
flash
drive
and
we
can
actually
print
them
using
the
3d
printer
Wow.
A
B
A
B
Actually
limitless,
they
I've
seen
one
of
our
branches
made
blocks
for
children
like
the
little
ABC
blocks.
So
they're
three-dimensional
it's
a
actual
plastic
box
that
was
created
on
the
3d
printer,
so
it
just
has
plastic
in
it
that
is
fed
through
based
on
the
program
that
will
build
anything
you
want.
I
was
looking
at
somebody
yesterday
on
their
desk.
B
They
had
a
little
elephant
and
I
had
moveable
feet
and
a
trunk
that
was
moving
my
daughter's
going
to
be
using
it
for
her
science,
fair
project
this
this
winter,
where
she's
going
to
make
something
that
will
actually
could
potentially
be
attached
to
an
airplane
that
she
could
make
with
a
3d
printer.
That
is.
A
C
B
A
brand-new
website
that
is
nice
and
clean
you
can
search
by
events.
You
can
search
by
age
if
you're
looking
for
just
stem
events
at
the
Annapolis
library,
it's
easy
enough
to
pull
up
a
calendar
that
has
that
and
then
we
also
have
our
library
happenings,
and
these
are
our
quarterly
guides.
They
come
out
four
times
a
year.
This
one
is
for
the
Fall,
but
we
have
them
each
season
and
they
have
a
complete
listing
of
all
of
the
programs
each
one.
Usually
we
have
about
a
thousand
programs
within
our
15
branches,
each
quarter.
B
B
Any
one
of
the
branches
they
are
in
any
of
the
libraries,
but
also
keep
an
eye
out
the
form
at
pediatricians
office
or
putting
them
in
some
of
the
the
pediatricians
office,
we're
putting
them
in
some
of
the
hands
at
the
schools.
So
sometimes
they
are
available
on
out
by
the
the
office
at
the
schools.
But
the
main
place
is
to
probably
come
to
the
library
and
pick
them
up
and
pick
out
some
things
to
go
home
with
all.
A
Right
that
sounds
great
okay,
and
with
just
a
few
minutes
left
Michelle
I
just
want
to
ask:
is
there
anything
else
going
on
at
the
library
that
you'd,
like
parents
and
students,
to
know
about
any
other
there's
so
much
going
on?
It
almost
seems
like
it'd,
be
hard
to
nail
down
just
a
few
more
things,
but
anything
else
that
we
should
know
well.
B
I
think
it's
important
to
know
that
we
do
programming
for
all
ages,
so
we
have
our
story
times
for
our
babies
as
well
as
programs
all
the
way
up
for
senior
citizens.
So
we
have
computer
classes
that
are
run
at
our
Odenton
branch
where
we
have
a
computer
lab,
so
they
do
Microsoft,
Word
and
Excel
classes.
We
work
with
community
partners
with
ask
a
lawyer
programs.
