Description
Wiley Baker hosts "The Score" and profiles Ryan Woods, the Athletic Director at Arundel High School.
A
Welcome
everyone
to
another
edition
of
the
score
Wylie
Baker
with
you
here.
As
a
reminder.
The
score
is
a
sports
show
here
on
a
ACPs
TV
and
the
Anne
Arundel
County
YouTube
channel,
where
our
athletes
and
action
show
focuses
on
a
specific
team
at
an
Anne
Arundel
County
public
school
to
score
zeroes
in
on
an
essential
individual
in
the
life
of
an
Arundel
County,
Public,
Schools
athletics,
and
today
we
have
one
such
individual
for
sure.
I
would
like
to
introduce
the
brand
new
athletic
director
in
Wildcat,
Country
and
Gambrills
Maryland.
A
B
I
grew
up
in
Anne,
Arundel
County
I
went
to
glimmering
high
school,
where
I
got
to
play
football
for
legendary
coach,
coach,
Ridgid
and
then
Brad
Wilson
afterwards
went
off
to
school
in
Delaware
and
played
Division
three
college
football
at
Wesley.
College
go
Wesley
and
you
know
it's,
which
is
a
nice
place,
because
I
have
a
couple
of
the
alumni
on
staff
at
at
at
Arundel.
B
Now
so
I
got
through
Wesley
came
back
and
started
teaching
at
my
alma
mater
at
Glen
Burnie
high
school
spent
14
years
there
as
an
English
teacher
as
the
academic
advisor
the
assistant
ad,
a
football
coach
and
also
the
supports
bowling
Commissioner
for
the
county,
and
this
is
my
first
year
as
the
new
ad
in
Wildcat
country,
so
I'm
very
excited
to
be.
There
talk.
B
I
will
say:
I
would
not
have
gone
to
college
without
athletics.
I
really
do
believe
that
I
think
that
it
opened
up
some
doors.
For
me,
I
didn't
really
know
what
I
wanted
to
do
as
a
senior
in
high
school.
So
when
I
play
was
playing,
football
I
got
some
offers.
10
different
schools
offered
me
a
chance
to
come
and
play
football,
and
that's
what
I
just
wanted
to
do.
I
just
wanted
to
play
football.
When
I
got
there,
I
fell
in
love
with
Wesley.
It
was
a
great
campus
small
community.
B
My
high
school
was
bigger
than
Wesley
at
the
time.
So
you
know
it
was.
It
was
a
place
where
everyone
kind
of
knew
each
other
I
I,
think
coming
back
to
Glen.
Burnie
really
opened
up
some
doors
for
me
and
I
really
wanted
to
give
back
through
athletics,
so
got
back
in
as
a
coach
coached
with
Lenny
Thomas,
four
or
four
years,
Nick
good
Malloy
for
two
years
before
he
moved
back
to
Annapolis
and
then
spent
a
couple
years
with
coach
Woodson
later
on
down
the
road.
B
So
I
got
the
opportunity
to
be
the
assistant
athletic
director
under
Bruce,
cider
and
Bruce
really
helped
develop
me
in
the
administration
aspect.
So
I
think
it's
really
important
for
students
to
get
involved
in
athletics
or
honestly
just
anywhere
in
the
school.
It
really
builds
a
sense
of
community.
My
goal
at
Arundel
is
really
to
just
build
the
whole
student,
not
just
part
of
it.
B
I
talked
Oh
everything
in
English
that
you
can
name
it's
kind
of
funny.
Miss
Davenport
when
I
interviewed
a
Rundle
says,
wait
you're,
not
a
phys,
ed
teacher.
What
am
I
going
to
do
with
you,
so
I
taught
English
nine
English
ten
English
eleven
I
taught
the
American
Film
Studies
curriculum,
which
I
got
to
actually
write
the
last
couple:
summers
through
curriculum,
writing,
I've
done
literature
magazine
I've,
pretty
much
done.
Everything
except
year
bore
yearbook
in
12th
grade,
so
Wow
I've
got
a
wealth
of
knowledge.
A
B
About
seven
years
ago,
Bruce
Eider
was
in
a
bind
Doug
Schreiber,
who
had
spent
years
at
Glen
Burnie
high
school
as
the
softball
coach
he
moved
on
and
he
became
an
administrator.
He
just
transferred
over
to
the
actually
the
Annapolis
area-
okay,
so
he's
over
there.
So
he
loves
some
big
shoes.
As
the
assistant
ad
and
burst
put
out
the
the
call
and
I
answered
it
didn't
really
know
what
I
was
gonna
do
the
first
year
and
Bruce
really
helped
me
to
really
understand
a
lot
about
the
administration
aspect.
B
I
still
got
to
coach
football,
so
that
was
awesome
and
I
was
doing
a
lot
of
the
security
work
at
that
point.
So
the
safety
and
security
is
a
big
issue
for
me.
I
really
want
to
make
sure
that
all
participants
in
the
game,
but
also
the
spectators,
are
feeling
safe
at
the
event,
so
bursts
really
developed
my
love
for
the
administration
side
I
got
into
it
loved.
It.
Bruce
actually
went
out
mid-year,
my
second
year
and
I
got
to
fill
in
for
him.
B
That
was
the
year
where
I
spent
the
years
teaching
five
English
classes.
I
was
the
acting
ad
with
no
assistant
ad.
The
academic
advisor
I
wasn't
coaching
football,
but
I
was
a
sports
bowling
Commissioner,
so
I
had
a
lot
of
hats
there
and
so
I
have
a
whole
wealth
of
knowledge
with
that
and
I
think.
It
really
helps
me
as
the
new
ad
over
Anne
Arundel,
because
now
I
know
all
the
working
parts
and.
A
B
I
had
the
the
chance
to
leave
Glen
Burnie
a
couple
different
times.
One
of
the
first
times
was
when
Nick
Malloy
transfer
back
to
Annapolis.
He
you
know,
I
I
was
his
JV
head
coach
and
he
really
wanted
me
to
come
with
them
and
we
had
a
really
great
bond
and
I
just
told
him
at
that
time.
I
just
wasn't
ready
to
leave,
but
it
was
my
alma
mater.
He
was
going
back
to
his
alma
mater
shows.
B
It
was
a
good
fit
for
both
of
us
to
stay
where
we
were
too
for
him
to
leave
and
for
me
to
stay
it
just
wasn't
ready.
This
year,
I
felt
like
I
was
leaving
the
place
in
a
better
spot
than
when
I
found
it
and
I
I
think
it
was.
It
was
my
time
to
leave.
I
think
Kyle's
done
a
great
job
over
there
looks
can
can
be
reality
in
the
way,
so
he's
really
improved
a
lot
of
the
campus
he's
really
working
on
a
lot
of
different
things.
B
Glen
Burnie
has
just
got
a
brand
new
second
gym
floor.
They've
got
a
new
sound
system
in
their
stadium
and
you're
scrolling.
Marquee
he's
done
a
lot
of
work
there.
We
they
just
got
the
brand
new
bleachers
in
the
new
press
box
there
that
they're
gonna
be
able
to
open
up
this
football
season
and
they're
they're
ready
to
roll,
so
I'm
excited
for
Glen
Burnie,
but
I'm,
also
very,
very
blessed
and
excited
to
be
stepping
in
Anne
Arundel,
comin
necessary,
set
me
up
in
a
great
spot.
It's
a
beautiful
campus.
B
A
B
So
my
wife,
Jessica
and
I
are
both
alumni
of
Glen
Burnie.
We
both
taught
there
we
both
coached
there.
She
was
involved
in
theater
arts
and
soccer
and
all
different
things.
Just
like
you
exactly.
We
we
put
on
a
lot
of
hats
there,
so
in
2017
we
actually
got
engaged
at
a
faculty,
the
first
faculty
meeting
of
the
year
and
in
on
April
18
2009
10
years
ago.
B
A
B
No
disrespect
to
any
other
school
in
the
county,
but
I
will
say
that
a
in
my
opinion
and
I
said
this
in
my
interview
and
it's
not
a
lie.
It's
it's
flat-out.
Just
my
opinion.
I've
always
looked
up
to
Arundel
I've,
always
kind
of
been
jealous
of
arundel.
They
have
it
all.
They
have
the
support
from
the
parents.
They
have
the
feeder
systems,
they
have
the
facilities,
they
have
the
winning
sports.
It's
really
a
great
facility.
I
am
big
on
tradition
in
history.
B
A
Here
with
Ryan
Woods,
the
new
athletic
director
of
the
Arundel
Wildcats
Arundel
high
school
in
Gambrills,
Maryland
and
Ryan,
maybe
this
is
a
little
early
to
ask
this.
But
what
are
your
initial
expectations
for
your
athletic
teams
for
your
student
athletes,
your
coaches
and
your
fans
at
Arundel,
high
school?
Well,.
B
I
mean
I'm
walking
into
a
great
situation.
Our
student-athletes
are
competitive.
Our
families
are
intense,
I.
Think
all
these
things
put
together
make
a
Rundle
a
great
place
to
be
I
will
say
that
I,
it's
like
I,
said
before
I
being
the
academic
advisor
I
folk
and
a
core
content
teacher
I
focused
very
heavily
on
the
student
part
of
the
student-athlete.
It's
a
big
love
for
me.
I
want
to
make
sure
that
the
students
are
prepared,
coaching
staff.
We
have
an
amazing
coaching
staff.
We
have
had
little
to
no
turnover.
B
In
fact,
we've
only
been
able
to
add
coaches
I'm
walking
into
a
great
place.
A
Rundle
is
is
going
to
endure
some
transition
in
the
next
two
years
and
I
will
say
this
year
has
been
a
very
big
transition
year.
We
got
a
brand
new
gym
floor,
we've
got,
we've
got
a
full
school
repaint,
we've
got
a
ton
of
stuff
happening,
so
this
is
our
transitional
year,
but
one
thing
I
will
say
for
a
Rundle
high
school
is
that
there
will
be
a
rumble.
B
B
Mean
our
coaches
are
focused,
they're
focused
on
the
prize,
I
trust
in
them,
and
they're
they're
gonna
be
great.
What
I
can
do
from
my
end
is
the
points
of
emphasis
for
Anne
Arundel
County
Public
Schools
this
year.
My
biggest
thing
is
going
to
be
the
student
athlete
and
the
student
athlete
experience
so
I'm
gonna
be
positively
promoting
on
social
media.
We
just
have
a
just
created
a
brand
new
Instagram
account.
So
if
you're
willing
to
follow
us,
it's
a
Tourondel
athletics
on
instagram.
We
have
our
boosters
who
run
our
Twitter
and
our
Facebook
groups.
B
We
have
the
best
athletic
website
in
the
state
of
Maryland.
We
are
ranked
number
one
in
the
state
of
Maryland
and
I.
Think
that
has
a
lot
to
do
with
our
community
members,
so
check
us
out
at
Arundel,
athletics,
comm,
but
I'm
gonna
be
promoting
the
student-athlete
in
a
positive
manner,
and
and
what
can
I
do
for
that?
B
Well,
I
can
be
doing
that
on
social
media
and
I
can
also
be
improving
our
facilities,
so
we're
in
the
process
of
converting
one
of
our
open
gym
classrooms
into
a
new
space
for
our
cheerleading
program
and
our
wrestling
program
in
the
winter,
and
it's
it's
going
to
be
a
great
thing.
We
have
some
some
work
going
on
right
now
and
I
think
it's
going
to
be
an
exciting
place.
It.
A
It
really
sounds
like
this
is
going
to
be
a
perfect
fit
for
the
folks
in
Gambrills
and
I'm
excited
for
you,
we've
known
each
other
for
a
long
time
and
I
again
congratulate
you
on
making
what
was
the
difficult
decisions,
leaving
your
alma
mater,
obviously
but
wow.
What
a
step
up
for
you
and
to
be
very
honest
for
Anne
Arundel
County
public
schools
in
all
of
us,
we're
honored
to
have
you
as
the
new
athletic
director
at
Arundel,
High
School
Ryan.
Thank
you
so
much
for
joining
us
here
on
the
score
again
folks.
A
We
are
so
glad
to
have
Ryan
woods.
He
is
the
new
athletic
director
in
Wildcat
Country
at
Arundel,
high
school
and
Gambrills
Maryland
get
down
there,
see
him
and
enjoy
all
of
Arundel
high
school
athletics.
This
year,
as
always,
an
honor
and
memory
of
my
mom
Dee
Baker
I'm
Wylie
Baker.
Thank
you
so
much
for
watching
the
score.
I'll
talk
to
you
on
the
court
on
the
field
or
on
the
air
and
with
another
edition
of
the
score
right
here
on
Anne
Arundel,
County,
Public,
Schools
television
and
the
YouTube
channel.
