From YouTube: Around Arlington: Chainsaw Artist
Description
We visited Oakgrove Park and witnessed the creative solutions Landscape Architect Kathy von Bredow and her team used when redesigning the playground.
A
This
is
a
neighborhood
conservation
project
that
I
scoped
with
the
community,
and
one
of
the
reasons
that
the
tree
is
here
and
being
carved
is
that
I
designed
the
park
around
this
tree.
It
was
a
wonderful
old
oak
tree
and
obviously
it's
a
growth
park,
so
we
wanted
to
preserve
it
and
it
died
right
before
we
started
construction.
B
Since
it
had
died
on
them,
they
thought
what
can
I
do
with
it.
Let's
do
something
fun
for
the
park,
and
so
I
came
and
I
set
up
my
scaffold
it
all
around
it
and
spent
a
handful
of
days
out
here,
carving
it.
It's
a
really
fun
3d
piece
that
you
really
got
to
get
every
side
of
it
and
really
got
to
take
a
look
at
it
and
see
all
the
different
animals
and
all
the
different
things
that
are
going
on.
A
And
I
actually
had
a
lot
of
community
involvement
in
the
design.
I
worked
with
a
bunch
of
kids
and,
as
I
was
scoping
the
park
actually
with
the
community.
They
wanted
these
really
natural
elements
and
some
of
the
things
that
they
really
liked
and
the
scoping
process
were
these
whimsical
tree
trunks
carved
into
chairs
and
everything
else.
So
when
the
tree
died,
I
contacted
Andrew.
