Description
When Arlington Arts Center heard about the County's Urban Agriculture task force, it decided to mount an exhibit that looked at issues of farming, ecology, and sustainability and turn it into a Community project.
A
B
This
exhibition
is
a
little
bit
different
for
us.
We
have
a
couple
of
sight
projects
that
are
part
of
a
big
program
called
Green
Acres,
but
this
exhibition
really
shows
what
artists
have
been
doing
over
a
long
period
of
time
dealing
with
issues
of
farming
in
ecology,
and
so
we've
got
a
big
sculpture
on
our
front
lawn,
a
community
garden
on
our
side
lawn
an
exhibition
on
the
inside
of
our
galleries
that
deals
with
all
these
different
sorts
of
issues.
B
We
learned
about
two
years
ago
that
Arlington
County
had
put
together
an
urban
agriculture,
Task
Force
run
out
of
the
county,
but
looking
at
all
different
sorts
of
ideas,
of
how
the
county
could
best
respond
to
issues
of
Agriculture
here
in
Arlington,
which
we
know
is
a
rapidly
growing
community,
and
so
we
really
wanted
to
think
about
it.
From
an
artistic
point
of
view,.
C
There
is
some
historical
precedent
for
that.
In
the
early
stages
of
this
grassroots
movement,
you
did
see
artists
doing
art
installations
in
urban
areas
for
food
production.
There
was
a
wheat
field
in
Manhattan,
for
example,
and
it
just
was
there
to
get
attention
to
show
people
how
important
this
is,
and
it
also
pointed
out
how
so
many
people
had
lost
touch
with
the
concept
of
knowing
where
their
food
was
coming
from.
The
initiative
is
looking
at
how
to
bring
agricultural
practices
to
our
urban
or
semi
urban
environment.
C
D
Some
of
the
basic
elements
in
life
are
air
water,
shelter
and
food
in
as
urban
as
we
may
become.
We
cannot
forget
that
we're
human
beings
and
that
we
are
one
with
the
land
and
as
a
community,
we
also
have
to
develop
systems
in
where
we
don't
have
to
always
be
exporting
important
things.
I
mean
it
could
be
right
here
in
our
own
neighborhoods.
D
B
Idea
is
that
this
task
force
is
thinking
about
and
some
of
the
recommendations
that
they
were
working
on,
making
their
ideas.
That
artists
have
been
working
on
for
a
really
long
time,
looking
at
different
ways
to
approach
farming
and
thinking
about
different
strategies,
and
we
thought
that
we
could
bring
in
an
artistic
perspective
to
what
we
see
is
really
a
big
community
concern.
C
B
It's
a
really
unusual
experience.
You
have
to
actually
water
your
exhibition,
we're
very
used
to
just
hanging
paintings
up
and
inviting
people
into
come
and
see
and
enjoy
them.
This
is
very
interactive
both
for
the
audience,
but
also
for
the
staff.
It's
really
really
different
to
have
to
keep
an
exhibition
alive.
A
Pagani
website
has
tons
of
resources
to
help
you
get
your
AG
on
just
search
on
urban
agriculture
and

find
classes,
workshops,
expert

and
answers
to
all
your
frequently
asked
questions.
It's
a

urban

shop
and
don't
forget
to
check
out
