A
For
18
years,
the
Rosebud
film
competition
has
sought
out
and
rewarded
fresh
and
innovative
filmmakers
in
Virginia,
Maryland
and
DC.
The
competition
gives
exposure
to
the
deserving
independent
film
and
video
artists
in
our
area.
We're
really
pleased
today
to
have
the
driving
force
behind
the
competition
Jackie
Steven,
who
is
with
Arlington
independent
media
access
station,
and
we
also
have
the
pleasure
of
having
two
other
guests
who
are
finalists
in
the
Rosebud
competition.
We've
got
raw
parish
as
well
as
Steven
get
REE.
So
we're
really
glad
to
have
you
all
here
today
and
jackie.
A
B
At
that
time
or
film
festivals
that
were
unique
to
this
area
and
rosebud
is
open
exclusively
to
DC
Maryland
and
Virginia.
Filmmakers
rosebuds
mission
also
is
to
find
films
that
are
innovative,
unusual,
experimental
or
deeply
personal.
So
we
have
a
very
defined
mission
as
to
what
we're
looking
for
and
to
also
really
reward
our
artists,
who
are
here
in
this
area
when.
B
Showcase
of
the
nominees
there
are
20
nominees,
and
two
of
them
are
here
with
us
today,
but
the
20
nominees
are
all
showcased
on
in
June,
fourteenth
at
rosalind
spectrum
theater
at
the
rosebud
nominee.
Showcase
tickets,
for
that
event,
are
only
eight
dollars
and
are
available
at
the
door.
So
you
can
see
all
20
films
at
six
and
a
half
hours.
No,
no
films
for
eight
dollars
at.
B
A
C
My
film
is
called
headache
and
it's
composed
entirely
of
what
some
people
call
found
footage
you
can
think
of
it
as
discarded.
Footage
it's
old
commercials,
corporate
public
relations,
films,
educational
films
and
what
I
do
is
I.
Look
at
lots
of
these
kind
of
films
because
I,
like
them
a
lot
and
then
just
based
on
the
images.
C
I
come
up
with
a
narrative
or
a
story,
and
then
I
write
out
that
story,
I
record
it
and
kind
of
I'm,
usually
the
voice,
talent,
I,
kind
of
make
up
a
character
record,
the
new
story
and
then
re
edit.
The
footage
to
the
to
the
story
and
what
I
find
it
does
is.
First
of
all,
it
makes
me
make
stories
that
I
could
have
never
thought
of
in
a
million
years,
because
I'm
keying
off
of
the
images,
but
then
what
I
find
is
myself
pops
right
through
it?
C
A
C
There's
always
been
a
lot
of
work
around
found
footage
and
a
lot
of
artists,
I've
kind
of
got
one
foot
in
the
fine
arts
world
and
one
foot
in
the
video
world.
So
a
lot
of
fine
art
video
artists
are
using
found.
Footage
is
quite
a
bit
of
that
and
kind
of
reappropriation
air
ative.
That's
also
been
done
in
the
past
as
well.
So
it's
a
it's
a
tradition
that
I
didn't
make
up
at
one.
C
C
I'm
dreaming
I'm
like
at
a
resort
in
I,
think
Arizona.
It's
a
desert,
I've
got
my
lawn
chair,
everything's
great,
it's
hot,
but
it's
dry
heat,
so
I'm
feeling
warm
but
not
bothered.
The
only
weird
thing
are
these
little
buildings
miles
in
the
distance.
I
know
they
are
far
away
somehow,
but
when
I
look
right
at
them
they
seem
close,
then
boom
flash
and
a
bomb
goes
off
and
before
I
can
really
react.
This
big
suitcase
snaps
me
up.
It
sweeps
me
off
I.
C
A
D
The
it's
a
music
video
I
guess
is
the
larger
genre
for
a
band
that
I'm
in
called
the
cassettes
and
the
the
actual
animation
is,
is
hand-drawn.
It's
sort
of
hand-drawn
art
by
the
lead
singer
of
the
band
actually
and
then
digitally
animated.
So
basically
he
drew
the
backgrounds
and
the
characters
and
whatnot
and
drew
them
in
such
a
way.
So
they
could
be
animated.

B
Arlington
independent
media
is
the
public
access
center
that
serves
this
county.
We
have
classes
in
television
production
everything
from
very
basic
classes
through
master
classes,
but
then
we
also
have
equipment
and
facilities
available
for
you
to
use
to
create
either
independent
films
or
anything
that
you
want.
And
then
we
have
a
channel
that
we
air
it
on
here
in
Arlington,
oh
wow,.
A
That
sounds
great
I
mean
this
is
a
great
resource
not
only
for
Arlington
filmmakers,
but
really
for
anyone
in
Arlington
to
be
able
to
take
advantage
of
some
of
the
resources
that
you
have.
That's
awesome.
Ok,
we
gotta
go
but
we'll
see
you
next
month
from
the
avian
studios.
Remember
it's
all
happening
here
now.
