From YouTube: Around Arlington: Old Dominion Sidewalks
Description
ATV's regular roundup of news and notes. In this edition, we take a look at the long-planned sidewalk upgrade on Old Dominion. Bluemont Park renovations celebrate with a ribbon cutting. The county has to BEE careful at a building in Nauck. JFAC is holding an informational meeting on bus storage in the county, which you can stream live right here. The Office of Emergency Management held a HERricane. The Office of Human Rights annual conference on work place discrimination looked at "Overcoming Barriers for Employment and Advancement of Females and Minorities." And we hold a meeting... in a bowl?
A
Arlington
prides
itself
on
being
a
walkable
community,
but
there
are
still
some
pockets
of
the
county
where
sidewalks
don't
exist.
We'll
tell
you
more
about
the
new
sidewalks
installed
along
Old

later
in
our
program,
but
first,
let's
play
ball.
We
celebrated
the
completion
of
the
renovated
baseball
fields
in
Bluemont
Park,
with
fanfare
and
a
ribbon-cutting.
In
addition
to
new
fencing,
bleachers
and
back
stops.
There
are
also
new
sod,
irrigation
and
drainage
to
ensure
a
great
playing
field.

The
upgrades
also
include

A
B
Old
Dominion
Drive
was
one
of
the
last
arterial
streets
in
Arlington
County
that
didn't
have
sidewalk
on
either
side
of
the
street.
This
project
installed
sidewalk
on
both
sides
of
the
street.
From
North
we
drove
towards
the
county
line
and
now
area
residents
can
enjoy
these
nice

sidewalk.
Not
only
did
we
install
sidewalk,
but
we
also
added
marked
crosswalks
to
several
intersections.
We
upgraded
the
bus
stops
to
make
them
more
accessible,
especially
to
those
with
disability,
ready
turn
lanes.
B
If
the
intersection
was
Williamsburg
Boulevard
to
improve
vehicular
efficiency,
we
updated
the
signals
with
new
technology.
We
added
street
life,
crews,
the
storm
drainage
system
and
we
upgraded
an
aging
water.
Main
construction
was
very
challenging
on
this
project
because
of
the
type
work
environment
and
we
were
trying
to
minimize
disruption
to
the
traveling
public.
We
finished
construction
ahead
of
schedule.
The
whole
project
wouldn't
have
been
possible
without
the
support
of
the
community
and
here,
to
tell
us
more
about
that
process.
