From YouTube: Here/now: GO Bags
Description
A segment of AVN's monthly magazine show, "Here/now", this segment features Debbie Powers from the Office of Emergency Management, explaining how and why to put together your own emergency "GO Bag".
A
Well,
we
conclude
this
special
episode
of
here.
Now
is
some
advice
for
what
each
of
us
can
do
to
be
better
prepared
for
emergencies
in
our
own
line
with
us
is
Debbie
powers
of
the
Office
of
Emergency
Management
Debbie
thanks
so
much
for
joining
us
I
want
delighted
to
be
here
and
be
able
to
share
the
things
that
we
have
learned
since
911
with
our
residents
and
our
folks
that
work
here,
oh
great
now,
September
is
emergency
preparedness
month.
Why
is
set
aside
a
month
or
emergency
preparedness?
A
Well,
we
hope
everybody's
prepared
for
every
month
for
every
emergency,
but
September
is
two
months.
It
was
designated
by
the
president
that
would
focus
everybody's
efforts
on
making
sure
that
you
know
how
to
do
forms.
You
know
how
to
make
a
plan-
and
you
know
how
to
get
involved
in
preparing
this,
because
it's
everybody's
responsibility
to
be
prepared
for
any
emergencies.
Now
you've
brought
with
us
here
today,
a
go-bag.
What
exactly
is
a
go
bag
of?
What's
inside?
Oh
there
are
lots
of
things
inside
and
think
about
a
go
bag
is
a
go.
A
Bag
is
what
you
personally
have
at
your
house,
and
you
have
to
evacuate
your
home.
It's
a
bad,
you
might
carry
with
you
if
you
commute
on
the
metro
or
it
can
be
a
bag
that
you
have
at
the
office
in
case
you
have
to
shelter
in
place
because
something
has
happened
outside
of
your
building
and
we
tell
you
to
stay
in
or
and
shelter
in
place.
Okay,
so
many
people
have
a
variety
of
bags.
A
They
have
them
at
home,
they
have
them
at
work
and
they
have
them
in
their
cars
or
on
the
metro
as
they
go,
and
every
bag
is
personal.
So
this
bag
is
our
demonstration
bag,
but
I
put
things
in
it.
That
I
thought
actually
happened
to
that.
Okay
and
my
go
bag
at
home
has
chocolate
which
I
did
not
bring
to
a
marriage
exactly
it
does
have
chocolate.
There
are
some
basic
things:
every
go
bag
should
have
every
good.
I
should
have
water,
okay,
it
can
be
any
kind
of
water.
Typically,
bottled
water
is
best.
A
Okay,
it's
sanitary
and
it's
unopened
and
it's
readily
available.
Okay
and
it
fits
easily
and
go
back.
Okay.
The
other
important
things
you
need
our
flashlights
okay
and
you
can
use
one
like
this.
It
has
battery
if
you
haven't
a
care,
less
and
less
light
in
here
with
a
reason
and
we
keep
it
in
a
plastic
bag
that
has
in
case
it's
raining
heavily
and
there's
a
lot
of
noise
experience
and
though
it
keeps
attracting
nice
and
honest,
the
other
fun
thing
with
the
flashlight.
A
If
you
don't
want
to
fool
with
batteries,
you
can
use
a
Craig
battery
I,
don't
know
what
you
can
see
that
or
not.
How
long
does
that?
Last
once
you
crank
it
up,
if
you
crank
it
enough,
and
it's
just
a
couple
minutes,
I
honestly
didn't
find
it
that
long,
but
if
you
crank
it
for
a
couple
minutes,
it
should
last
for
starting
this
for
an
hour
and
it
may
last
longer,
depending
on
the
type
of
flashlight
again,
but
you
put
it
in
your
go
bag
and
your
plastic
excuse
me
today.
A
The
other
thing
that's
important,
because
everybody
needs
to
know
how
to
get
information
in
an
emergency
communications.
It's
very
important
and
Arlington
has
done
a
really
good
job,
I.
Think
of
being
able
to
have
a
variety
of
systems
that
enable
people
to
get
information
in
a
variety
of
ways.
One
way
is
with
our
1700
AM
radio
station.
Yes,
I've
listened
and
gets
always
on
the
air,
and
when
things
happen,
we
are
able
to
put
messages
on
today
is
a
Code
Orange
day.
A
Yes,
so
we
will
put
a
message
on
if
we
haven't
already
about
Code
Orange,
we've
got
general
messages
about
how
to
make
a
go
bag,
how
to
get
information,
it's
an
English
and
Spanish.
So
it's
it's
available.
24
7,
I'm
always
on
so
radio
was
really
important.
Okay,
I!
Dare
you
to
use
a
battery-operated
radio
or
I
like
the
crank,
cuz
I,
don't
want
to
see
the
family?
Can
you
always
have
to
have
slashed?
At
least
endeavors
have
to
keep
doing
it,
replacing
them?
A
Second
images,
if
you
great
yeah,
so
we
could
get
works
really
well
and
you
can
buy
these
and
a
variety
of
places
in
the
in
the
county
and
I'm
going
to
stick
that
in
the
background.
What
else
do
we
need?
Let
us
turn
out
burger
laughing.
You
need
to
have
bug
spray
and
more
some
kind
of
insect
repellent.
Okay,
you
definitely
need
a
first
aid
kit
really
important
lessons
repurchased.
I
also
bought
one
for
my
house.
You
need
wipes
that
are
disinfectant
wipes
just
in
case,
so
please
don't
go
hand
sanitizer,
really
important.
A
If
you
take
that
okay,
you
need
to
have
a
prescription
and
your
meditation,
you
need
it.
You
need
to
have
at
least
a
week
supply
in
your
and
your
go
bag
as
you
can
and
money.
When
power
is
out
the
gate
teams,
don't
work
either.
So
it's
really
important
to
have
some
cash
on
hand.
I
miss
you
recommend
we
recommend
about
three
hundred
dollars
for
a
lot
of
people.
A
That
may
be
difficult
to
do
all
at
once,
but
if
you
put
two
dollars
away
every
week
or
so
or
once
a
month,
so
you
save
up
your
money
for
your
go
bag.
It's
important
to
have
that
always
needs
food,
and
so
I
put
food
and
legs
and
I
go
back
here.
We've
got
peanuts
and
crackers
and
cheese,
crackers
and
peanut
butter
any
kind
of
snacks.
A
few
like
that
will
tide
you
over
that
has
a
good
protein
storehouses.
Of
course,
I
didn't
bring
chocolate
suggested
on
my
go
bag
of
time.
A
A
Black
deck
is
one
of
latex,
close
working
gloves
in
case
you
need
to
use
those
to
protect
your
hands
and
the
most
important
thing
I
think
an
the
one
thing.
That's
really
hard
for
people
to
do
is
head
of
your
own
personal
preparedness
plan,
and
we
have
these
handy-dandy
little
Z
cards
as
we
call
them,
and
every
employee
in
the
counting
is
supposed
to
get
one.
Did
you
do
I
got
one
if
it
filled
out
know
what
I've
done
doing
any
good?
A
If
you
have
them
and
they're
not
filled
out,
it
doesn't
take,
but
a
few
minutes
to
fill
amount.
It's
really
important,
particularly
if
you
have
children
to
make
sure
that
everybody
knows
where
to
meet
up
if
you're
at
home
and
you
have
to
meet
somewhere.
If
there's
a
fire
or
a
gas
leak
in
your
neighborhood
or
if
you're
at
work,
it's
important
for
children
to
feel
comfortable,
they
know
what's
going
to
happen
in
an
emergency
oxygen
if
mom
or
dad
has
to
stay
at
work,
which
frequently
happens,
these
are
available.
A
And
we
will
be
happy
to
send
them
to
you
if
we
also
have
brochures
on
pandemic
flu,
which
are
really
handy
and
everybody
was
supposed
to
get
in
their
citizens
back
in
January,
the
emergency
preparedness
information
and
there's
information
on
how
to
be
informed.
So
it
only
talks
about
the
radio,
but
we
have
Arlington
alert
and
the
website
and
avian
74
and
some
of
the
other
local
media
in
English
and
it's
in
Spanish.
Thank
you.
So
much
appreciate
it,
but
we
try
to
go
the
junior
to
get
next
one's
here
in
the
AVM
studios.
