From YouTube: Arlington Prepares
Description
Are you prepared for an emergency? Would you know who to call, where to go? Do you have the proper supplies? The Office of Emergency Management, or OEM, knows that having all that information is key in an emergency, and that's why they developed the mobile app "Arlington Prepares."
A
B
The
office
of
emergency
management
works
on
informing
the
public
about
emergencies
that
are
coming
up
and
also
kind
of
coordinating
responses
back
home
in
the
Emergency
Operations
Center.
One
of
the
primary
functions
of
the
Office
of
Emergency
Management
is
communication
and
getting
information
out
in
an
emergency.
That's
what
people
are
looking
for.
We
know
that
smartphones
are
out
there
in
full
effect.
B
We're
really
hoping
that
people
take
the
conversations
that
they
had
when
they
were
making
plans
with
paper
tools
and
kind
of
transfer
that
to
their
phones.
Making
a
plan
asks
to
put
in
your
contact
information
who
your
emergency
contacts
are
and
any
other
information
that
you
think
would
be
helpful.
The
key
is
that
it's
stored
on
the
phone
and
it's
not
stored
in
any
server
anywhere,
where
the
county
has
it.
So
this
is
your
information,
so
feel
free
to
put
as
much
as
you
want.
B
A
C
Region
is
putting
efforts
in
all
over
the
place
to
work
better
on
evacuation
on
emergency
operations,
and
we
needed
this
center
to
be
a
state
of
the
art
center.
So
when
we're
assisting
regional
emergency
operation
centers,
we
have
the
best
information
here
that
is
easy
to
as
access
for
the
operators
in
this
facility
as
possible
to
make
it
easier
to
communicate
to
the
other
facilities.
C
We
have
connections
here
to
our
282
traffic
signals
and
in
the
county,
all
the
signals
run
independently,
but
we
can
communicate
back
here.
We
can
change
the
timing
patterns.
We
could
also
use
the
system
for
certain
weather
emergencies,
certainly
with
a
predicted
hurricane.
If
we
were
with
wherever
asked
to
create
an
evacuation
pattern
and
if
there's
ever
an
evacuation
ordered,
we
could
relatively
quickly
change
the
signal
timing
pattern.
We
potentially
could
also
do
the
same
during
snow
emergency
if
needed.
C
Another
capability
that
we're
expanding
into
our
permanent
variable
message
signs
out
on
on
the
roadways,
we'll
start
with
some
on
arlington
boulevard,
but
eventually
there'll
be
some
other
key
roadways
that
that
are
controlled
by
arlington.
We
can
warn
of
bad
conditions
ahead,
collisions
ahead.
We
can
just
provide
simple
travel
time
information.
We.
B
Would
work
with
transportation
on
any
digital
signage
issues
where
we
had
to
put
information
out
with
the
traffic
management
center
kind
of
getting
that
information
in
real-time?
It
makes
our
job
easier.
We
know
that
not
everyone
in
the
public
has
smartphones
has
iphones
android.
Some
folks
have
blackberries
where
they
can't
get
the
app.
So
we
try
to
get
our
information
of
being
formed.
Make
a
plan
get
involved
out
in
a
variety
of
formats.
B
People
learn
differently,
and
people
like
to
get
information
differently
and
we're
trying
to
make
sure
that
we're
doing
that
with
all
the
tools
in
our
tool
kit,
one
of
the
first
things
that
we
do
is
we
put
out
in
arlington
alert
if
you're
not
registered
for
arlington
alert.
We
highly
recommend
that
you
do
that
arlington
alert,
calm
and
register
yourself
and
that's
a
piece
where
we
can
put
information
out
to
the
community.
It's
a
one-way
communication
and
alert
them
of
what's
going
on.
B
What
the
app
allows
us
to
do
is
give
the
tools
to
the
individuals
to
say
this
is
what
you
should
do:
an
emergency,
make
your
own
plans
and
take
the
information.
That's
at
your
fingertips,
so
we're
using
the
app
and
hope
that
others
use
the
app
to
educate
themselves
about
incidents
and
other
hazards
so
that
when
our
other
forms
of
communication
come
out,
they
can
use
the
app
to
make
the
right
decisions
for
them
and
their
family.
