Arlington Cemetery is using the latest technology to help visitors explore the area. The ANC Explorer app connects families, visitors and the public to the cemetery's history by helping them locate gravesites and points of interest. The app is free and available for download via the iOS App Store and Android Google Play.

Commonwealth Attorney Theo Stamos and Police Chief Doug Scott will take part in a community forum, discussing trust and confidence in the criminal justice system on Oct. 15 from 7-9 p.m. at Wakefield High School. Arlington’s streetcar system is one step closer to reality. The Arlington County Board approved a $26 million contract for HDR Engineering, Inc. to develop preliminary design plans for the Columbia Pike and Crystal City -Potomac Yard segments. Fall is finally here, and that means the trees will soon begin shedding their leaves. It’s time to get prepared for the County’s extensive leaf bag pickup and vacuum collection program. Leaf bags are collected the day after your regular trash collection day, starting November 3. Vacuum collection begins November 10, and is organized by civic association. Check our website for information about when the vacuum truck will be in your neighborhood.

And what if you don’t have a rake for all those leaves? No problem, because Arlington’s Central Library has launched its Garden Tool Lending Program. You can easily check out many tools to help you prepare for all the seasons, and make your yard look great. With that green thumb still in mind, just remember that residents are responsible for trimming trees and shrubs on their property, especially if they encroach on public spaces such as sidewalks and streetsigns. Arlington's leaf collection program is an annual event where we provide the residents of the county opportunities to get rid of their leaves in an environmentally responsible way. We offer really two aspects to the program: there's the bag collection program and also the vacuum collection program. Basically, it's a huge vacuum that collects the leaves.

Those two programs actually collect the leaves and bring them back to the earth products, recycling yard, where they're processed by a tub, grinder and actually turned into leaf mulch, which we make available to the residents for the spring and summer, planting seasons and gardening seasons, and we provide two passes to our vacuum program for the first pass. You'll see, yellow signs in your neighborhood marking and indicating when we're coming by to collect the leaves for the second pass will be using orange signs.

We typically try to put the signs out a weekend prior to your collection period, starting so we want people have a weekend to be able to break out their leaves, be able to collected the following week. um Some of the concerns they have about placement of leaves again, we have a vacuum truck. We think when we come to a pile that it's purely leaves, if you have other material mixed in with those leaves it's gonna, get sucked into the vacuum and potentially damage our equipment.

We also ask you to separate them from a park vehicle and we need about ten feet of clearance, because we have to get the hose relatively close to the curb and gutter line and then the truck needed to negotiate around the park car. We also asked residents not to put them close to storm sewers, because again they have a tendency to blow and migrant. We don't want the leaves going into the storm sewers if possible, leaf.

Bags are collected the day after your regular trash collection starting on November. Third vacuum collection begins on November 10th and is organized by Civic Association check our website for information about when the vacuum truck will be in your neighborhood and what, if you don't have a rake for all those leaves no problem because Arlington Central Library has launched its garden tool lending program.
