From YouTube: Potholes in Arlington
Description
There's five seasons in Arlington—spring, summer, fall, winter and pothole season! Learn how potholes form, how the County takes action to fill them, and what you can do to report a problem.
A
Potholes
are
generally
formed
during
the
winter,
in
particular
when
the
moisture
gets
down
into
the
porous
asphalt.
Water
will
get
down
in
there
and
then
in
the
winter
months,
particularly
in
the
mid-atlantic
region.
We
cycle
through
the
freezing
mark
on
a
regular
basis,
so
at
night
it's
below
freezing
during
the
day,
it's
above
freezing
and
potholes
form
from
a
combination
of
that
natural
effect
of
freezing
and
thawing
of
moisture
and
the
abuse
of
what
we
do
on
the
roads
with
heavy
cars,
trucks,
buses
and
other
equipment.
A
So
this
crew
is
a
mobile
pothole
crew,
so
they
go
to
multiple
locations.
In
a
single
day.
Situation
like
this
will
take
20
or
30
minutes
to
prep
and
then
repair
the
potholes.
Then
they'll
move
on
to
another
five
or
ten
different
locations
where
they
might
have
a
group
of
potholes
like
this,
or
they
may
have
just
individual
single
potholes
some
locations.
