C
Today
is
a
very
sad
day
for
arlington
county
and
for
arlington
county
government.
James
bia,
an
arlingtonian
and
a
member
of
our
county
staff
for
24
years
was
killed
today,
apparently
electrocuted
as
he
helped
another
employee
remove
temporary
lighting
that
made
it
possible
for
crews
to
work
through
the
night
to
repair
a
broken
water
main.
C
A
second
worker
injured
in
the
incident
was
transported
by
medstar
to
an
area
hospital.
We
are
withholding
his
name
for
privacy
reasons.
We
were
nearing
completion
of
the
work
and
they
were
removing
lights
because
they
were
no
longer
needed
because
of
daylight.
There
were
no
actual
eyewitnesses
to
the
scene
and
the
investigation
is
ongoing.
B
The
incident
is
still
under
investigation
by
the
police
department,
our
risk
management,
arlington
county
risk
management
and
virginia
osha
and
they're
treating
this
as
an
industrial
accident.
However,
I
don't
know
at
this
time.
You
know
if
there
were
any
safety
violations
at
all
again
that
will
come
from
the
investigation
by
osha
and
risk
management
and
police
department.
C
D
He's
a
type
of
guy
like
a
lot
of
the
folks
that
we
have
in
des
who,
who
are
generally
unrecognized
for
the
work
they
do
working
through
the
night
and
conditions
which
most
people
find
deplorable
last
night
in
the
trench
with
with
water
he's
a
type
person
who's
out
plowing
snow.
It's
also
the
type
of
person
that
you're
not
finding
complaining
about
the
work
he
loved
his
family,
he
loved
his
co-workers,
he
loved
working
for
the
county,
it's
an
enormous
loss,
it's
an
absolutely
enormous
loss
for
us
when
you're
saying.
Thank
you
on
thanksgiving.
D
Remember
the
folks
who
are
providing
service
that
people
don't
think
about.
You
know
the
folks
that
are
providing
the
water
and
they're
making
sure
that
the
storage
is
taken
away
and
that
the
roads
are
safe
to
be
on
and
that
the
people
are
there
to
serve.
I
think
it's!
If
nothing
else.
It's
a
poignant
reminder
about
how
dangerous
the
job
really
is,
and
sometimes
that
gets
forgotten.
