A
Good
afternoon
everybody
thank
you
for
being
here.
We
are
here
to
talk
about
hands
to
hearts,
which
is
in
Arlington
County
initiative
between
the
hospital
Virginia,
Hospital
Center
and
our
partners
at
Arlington,
County,
Fire
and
EMS.
We
are
here
also
for
a
more
important
reason,
because
hands
to
heart
saves
lives
and
we
have
a
hands
to
heart
story
for
everyone
today
and
Ben
is
here
with
us
because
of
hands
to
hearts
and
bystander
CPR.
So
I
just
want
to
give
Ben
a
round
of
applause
for
being
brave
enough
to
share
his
story.
B
So
it
started
out,
it
was
a
Friday.
It
was
a
typical
school
day.
My
son
got
up,
he
made
himself
some
breakfast,
he
went
off
to
school
and
then
about
a
half
an
hour
later,
I
get
a
call
from
the
school.
That
said,
you
know
your
son
has
collapsed.
We
think
he
has
had
had
a
seizure.
You
need
to
get
to
the
hospital
immediately
and
as.
B
Have
to
tell
you
the
only
thing
that
went
through
my
mind
was
like
it
was
their
school
shooting
because
you
know
why
else
would
would
my
son
have
collapsed?
My
son
is
perfectly
healthy.
He
has
no
health
issues
and
so
you
know
I
rushed
to
the
hospital
and
you
know
they're
there.
My
son
was
at
the
Virginia
Hospital
center
and
his.
B
What
I
did
find
out,
which
was
you
know,
as
a
parent,
just
sends
my
heart
racing
every
time
I
think
about
it
is
only
1
in
10
people
survived
one
in
10,
I
mean
my
kid
was
a
really
lucky
kid
and
I
am
had
this
happened
when
he
was
walking
to
school.
If
it
had
happened
on
the
bus,
if
it
had
happened,
you
know
kind
of
in
another
instance.
He
may
not
have
survived
so.
C
The
American
Heart
Association
recognized
that
in
2015
only
about
42%
of
people
were
receiving
by
seing
her
CPR
when
they
had
a
cardiac
arrest
outside
the
hospital.
So
they
said
of
goal
of
doubling
that
number
of
42
percent
by
2020.
So
in
order
to
accomplish
that,
they've
started
promoting
community
CPR
programs,
so.
B
C
B
C
Then
it's
an
effort
to
get
the
community
to
be
able
to
recognize
cardiac
arrests,
call
for
help
and
start
compressing
the
chest
record
the
three
C's
so
check
for
responsiveness,
if
so,
unresponsive
not
breathing,
normally
or
not.
Breathing,
you
want
to
call
for
help
when
I,
when
one
send
somebody
to
get
an
ad
and
the
third
C
is
compress
the
chest
which
is
just
hands
only
compressions,
no
ventilations
or
rescue
breathing
is
required.
It's
very
simple.
