A
Central
libraries
flourishing
new
organic
vegetable
garden
got
the
VIP
treatment
recently
as
Christie
Vilsack
life
of
us
agricultural
Secretary,
Tom
Vilsack,
and
a
strong
supporter
of
community
gardening
came
for
a
visit
inspired
by
arlington
public
libraries.
Recent
arlington
reads:
2010
initiative,
which
focused
on
food
and
sustainability.
The
garden
is
a
cooperative
effort
by
several
area
groups.
It's.
B
A
wonderful
way
to
bring
people
together,
Tom
and
I
had
the
opportunity
to
help
the
first
lady
plant,
her
garden
with
children
at
the
White
House
this
year,
and
some
of
those
children
hadn't
ever
planted
anything
before
in
those
teeny
tiny
little
plants
was
such
a
wonderful
opportunity
to
help
the
children
do
that,
but
also
to
get
them
outside
and
to
help
them
understand
the
importance
of
fresh
fruits
and
vegetables.
What.
C
We're
doing
with
this
garden,
which
we
call
Arlington
reads:
Arlington
grows
because
it's
at
the
library
is
to
show
people
what
they
can
do
here
in
the
in
in
an
urban
setting
with
a
small
plot
with
a
lot
of
different
crops
and
we're
going
to
continue
to
do
this
as
the
season
goes
on.
We
just
got
it
in
in
late
May.
So
really
we
missed
a
little
the
cool
season,
such
as
peas
and
so
on.
C
A
C
D
Arlington
food
assistance
center
is
one
of
the
few
food
banks
that
I
know
of
that
can
accept
homegrown
produce.
So
we
started
looking
around
for
spots
in
the
community
where
we
could
have
a
garden
and
have
a
water
source,
and
things
like
that-
and
this
came
to
be
once
it's
harvested-
the
food
will
go
to
the
Arlington
food
assistance
center
and
be
distributed
to
the
clients
there.
You'll.
C
B
Of
the
community
gardens
are
sharing
them
with
people
who
don't
have
access
to
fresh
fruits
and
vegetables.
So
that's
what
community
is
all
about
and
I
think
it's
really
really
important
that
we
do
it
on
a
really
elementary
level.
A
lot
of
government
is
hard
to
understand,
but
this
is
something
we
can
all
do
and
it's
going
to
benefit
all
of
us
and
it's
going
to
make
us
all
feel
better.
If.
