Walter

Arlington
County
Board
Chairman,
Jay,
Walter
Tejada
and
vice
chairman
jeff,
I
said,
helped
cut
the
ribbon.
Both
men
were
present
three
years
earlier
in
washington,
DC
at
Capital,
Bikeshare
official
launch
bicycling.
D
Is
a
realistic
option
for
a
lot
more
people
than
know
it
today,
and
putting
these
red
bikes
all
over
the
streets
of
our
region
will
immediately
wake
up
a
lot
of
folks
to
that
reality.
Well,
this
is
my
baby.
This
is
a
regional
discussion,
a
regional
collaboration
between
the
District
of
Columbia
in
Arlington,
and
we
came
together
to
make
this
work
as
a
region
all.
B
C
E
Fact
that
everyone
has
credit
card,
almost
everyone
is
a
credit
card.
These
days
makes
bike-sharing
possible
because
you
can
have
a
credit
card
based
system,
so
the
technology
was
just
about
ready.
Our
antenna,
DC
streets
were
ready.
The
bike
culture
was
we're
starting
to
grow
in
the
region,
so
we
knew
it
would
be
successful.
I,
don't
know
we
thought
it'd
be
quite
this
successful
the.
D
Magic
of
Arlington
is
that
this
is
an
expansion
of
our
fabulous
transportation
system
that
started
with
metro
and
went
to
the
art,
local
art,
bus
and
and
flex
car
and
now
spike
share
better
sidewalks.
We
work
so
hard
not
to
just
talk
about
the
options
to
driving
alone
in
car,
but
providing
the
infrastructure
and
the
opportunity
and
the
ease
of
doing
those
other
things
and.
C
Purpose
of
accs
is
to
reduce
congestion
and
get
people
to
choose
transportation
options
to
driving
alone.
We've
got
a
lot
of
programs
and
services
that
help
people
choose
transportation,
options,
we're
helping
about
800
Arlington
companies
and
we're
also
helping
about
400
residential
property
managers,
provide
benefits
to
the
people
in
their
buildings,
so
that
we
can
make
it
easy
for
people
to
choose
transit
bike
and
walk.
Other
programs
and
services
includes
Arlington's
car,
free
diet,
walk
arlington
and
bite
Garlington.
E
What
bike
arlington
does?
Is
we
try
to
make
it
easy
for
people
to
bike
in
arlington?
There
are
a
few
barriers
to
getting
more
people
biking
and
we
know
about
them.
That's
extensive
research
on
them,
the
biggest
one
is
is
the
safety
is
the
fear
of
getting
hit
by
a
car.
That
is
the
biggest
barrier
that
we
constantly
try
to
overcome.
We
do,
of
course,
encourage
wearing
a
helmet
when
you're
riding
a
bike,
whether
it's
your
own
bike
or
capital
bikeshare.
E
One
of
the
most
important
things
for
bike
safety
and
making
people
feel
comfortable
is
getting
more
people
biking
and
more
people
are
that
are
biking
the
safer.
It
is
for
everybody.
Drivers
are
more
aware
they
used
to
see
in
cyclists.
They
know
how
to
behave
around
cyclists.
Cyclists
tend
to
behave
better
when
they're,
surrounded
by
more
cyclists
and
Capital
Bikeshare,
certainly
help
with
that,
because
more
people
are
biking
than
ever
and
again
that
it's
slightly
safer,
I
haven't.
D
A
bike:
if
you
didn't
grow
up
bicycling,
you
could
be
a
little
anxious
about
getting
on
a
bike.
You
could
be
more
anxious
about
getting
on
a
bike
and
riding
a
bike
lane
where
there
may
be
a
car,
four
or
five
feet
from
you.
So
there
is
a
comfort
level
that
you
have
to
develop
in
the
county.
Is
here
not
to
replace
all
the
bike
shops
or
replace
all
the
private
programs,
but
to
complement
them.
D
E
Have
classes
for
whatever
level
of
biking
ability
you
are
at
everything
from
complete
beginner
cyclists
that
don't
even
know
how
to
ride
a
bike
that
never
learned
adults
that
never
learn
how
to
ride
a
bike
when
they
were
kids.
So
now
they
are
interested
in
finally
learning
how
to
ride
a
bike.
We
have
classes
for
that
and
of.
A
B
E
Stands
for
being
predictable,
alert
and
lawful,
whether
you're
biking,
whether
you're
walking
whether
you're
driving
so
their
trips
for
everybody
that
uses
the
streets.
This
is
not
just
a
biking
thing.
This
is
for
everybody,
if
you
remember
those
three
things,
and
also
just
to
have
patience
and
be
courteous
which
is
again
part
of
being
a
pal,
be
a
pal
to
your
fellow
road
users.
That's
going
to
make
a
big
difference
in
keeping
our
streets
safer
when.
D
I
grew
up,
the
street
was
a
place
for
car
and
that's
it
and
now
a
complete
street
is
a
place
from
curb
to
curb
and
beyond
where
you
have
a
sidewalk
and
a
planting
strip,
and
then
maybe
you
have
parking
or
you
have
bike
parking
and
a
bike
lane
and
pedestrians
crossing
and
cars
and
maybe
transit
buses
or
streetcar.
These
are
all
to
be
shared
complimentary
uses
of
the
public
right
away.
