From YouTube: NewsMakers: Arlington Aerials
Description
A segment from the NewsMakers program produced by Arlington Virginia Network featuring Olympic Gold Medal winner Dominique Dawes and her visit to the Barcroft Sports and Fitness Center. Dawes talked with fans and worked with members of the Arlington Aerials, Arlington County's Competitive Gymnastics Team.
A
Now,
you're,
probably
thinking
that
four-year
training
towards
the
Olympics
was
that
was
pretty
smooth
right
piece
of
cake.
Maybe
you
know
I
made
it
to
the
Olympics
just
by
fun
and
games
right
now.
I.
Remember
that
I,
remember
thinking
what
have
I
gotten
myself
into.
This
is
the
hardest
time
of
my
11-year
old
life.
Dominique.
B
Dawes
was
at
the
Barcroft
sports
and
fitness
center,
giving
her
fundamentals,
gymnastics
clinic
and
motivational
speech
for
the
Arlington
Ariel's
gymnastics
team,
Jennie
Archer,
president
of
the
Arlington
Ariel's
parents,
Association,
tells
us
what
it
means
to
the
girls
to
meet
gold,
medalist
Dominique
Dawes
in
person.
Oh,
it's.
C
An
awesome
experience
for
the
girls
to
have
someone
that
has
sort
of
reached
that
pinnacle
of
a
gymnastics
career
and
for
them
to
see
it.
Everything
from
the
youngest
girls
in
the
program
were
seven
up
through
the
the
teenagers
to
see
what
it
takes
to
work
that
hard
to
be
successful.
Dedication
to
the
sports
and
then
even
the
people
who
reached
the
pinnacle
career
have
a
hard
time
now.
A
A
I
was
capable
of
doing
and
I
brought
home
a
bronze
that
bronze
medal
to
this
day
does
not
leave
my
house,
because
that
is
my
prized
possession
to
know
and
to
tell
me
in
life
when
I'm
knocked
down
it's
up
to
me
to
pull
myself
back
up.
There
will
be
times
in
life
where
you
will
be
knocked
down.
Sometimes
you
knock
yourself
down
or
you
will
be
knocked
down
by
life
for
other
people,
but
you
got
to
make
sure
you
always
get
back
up.
D
Arlington
aerials
is
the
actual
competition
team
for
Arlington
County.
They
are
part
of
USA
Gymnastics,
so
they
go
and
compete
ranging
from
level
four.
We
have
up
through
level
nine
on
our
team
this
year
and
that
can
lead
to
competitions
in
the
area.
It
can
lead
to
state
competitions
and
somehow
made
it
to
a
regional
competition
which
includes
about
seven
different
states
competing
against
each
other.
C
Is
spectacular
for
a
county
facility?
I,
don't
think
you
see
very
many
of
them.
We
travel
to
a
lot
of
gyms
around
the
area
and
they're
all
private
clubs,
so
to
have
a
facility
of
this
caliber.
We
hear
a
lot
from
other
gyms
who
like
to
come
to
our
meets
here,
how
they
love
the
facility,
the
equipment,
the
way
that
the
meet
is
run
itself,
how
smoothly
and
efficiently
as
well
as
you
know,
the
opportunities
to
buy
things
and
things
that
we
put
out
there
for
them.
C
D
The
gym
we
have
the
recreational
classes
that
come
once
a
week
and
that's
really
the
fun
for
them
to
come
in
and
have
a
good
time
with
the
sport
of
gymnastics.
Then
we
have
the
range
of
those
that
are
a
little
bit
more
serious
with
the
sport
competitive
and
take
a
lot
of
time
out
of
their
life
to
be
a
part
of
the
sport
and
compete.
You.
A
Know
when
you
want
to
get
to
a
certain
height
or
a
certain
level,
either
in
academics
or
in
athletics
or
in
arts
or
whatever
you
have
an
interest
in
you're
gonna,
put
a
little
bit
more.
You
have
to
put
a
little
bit
more
time,
commitment
into
it
right.
You're
gonna
have
to
not
only
figure
out
what
your
strengths
are,
but
what
your
weaknesses
are
and
work
on
those
as
well.
They
work
the.
