A
Mark
Schwartz
was
named
county
manager
earlier
this
month
and
we
have
an
interview
with
him
coming
up
later
in
our
program,
but
first
it's
cold
outside
and
like
it
or
not.
Winter
is
here
at
last
jessica,
baxter
from
Arlington's
Department
of
Environmental
Services
tells
us
how
to
stay
informed
when
severe
winter
weather
hits
and
our
newest
edition
of
street
beat.
B
Hi,
my
name
is
jessica,
baxter
and
I'm.
Acting
communications
manager
for
the
Department
of
Environmental
Services
and
on
this
street
beat
we're
going
to
talk
about
the
many
ways
that
you
can
stay
informed
this
winter
season
as
usual,
we'll
be
updating
the
public
through
our
snow
phases
and
the
snow
phases
really
monitor
the
progress
of
our
crews
on
streets,
whether
they're
in
Maine,
arterioles
or
residential
streets,
and
we
post
that
information
on
the
website
and
through
our
social
media
channels.
B
So
if
you
haven't
followed
us
make
sure
you
do
we're
at
at
arlington
des
for
Twitter
and
Arlington
Department
of
Environmental
Services
for
facebook,
but
there
are
also
many
new,
exciting
ways
that
you
can
stay
informed.
First,
starting
with
the
live
traffic
camera
website
that
we
launched
in
September
the
public's
able
to
view
180
cameras
from
critical
intersections
across
the
county.
And
then
you
can
also
access
this
information
via
your
mobile
device
and
on
on
laptop
or
your
home
computer.
B
So
it's
very
accessible
and
it's
definitely
a
good
tool
to
have
before
you
head
out
in
the
snow
or
icy
conditions.
And
finally,
we
have
the
snow
progress
map
and
this
is
an
interactive
map.
It's
updated
after
each
12-hour
shift
to
provide
the
best
and
most
accurate
information.
So,
as
you
can
see,
there
are
many
ways
to
stay
informed.
Thank
you
for
tuning
into
Street,
beat
and
we'll
see
you
next
time.
A
Thanks
Jessica
we'll
be
sure
to
keep
those
tips
in
mind,
check
our
snow
and
ice
central
page
to
find
out
the
latest
on
snow
removal,
closings
and
delays.
Governor
Terry
McAuliffe
presented
a
check
for
750
thousand
dollars
to
the
Arlington
partnership
for
affordable
housing,
Appa
applied
for
the
grant
to
help
fund
the
Columbia,
Hills
east
apartments
for
low
and
moderate
income
residents.
Let's
take
a
look.
We.
C
D
Are
receiving
750
thousand
dollars
in
financing
from
the
Virginia
State
Housing
Trust
Fund,
and
this
is
a
crucial
piece
of
a
larger
package
that
is
funding
our
229
unit.
New
construction,
infill
project,
Columbia
Hills
we've
been
combining
a
couple
different
financing
sources
that
haven't
been
combined
before
there's
two
different
kinds
of
tax
credits,
so
the
design
the
planning
process,
the
funding
process
I
think
there
are
a
lot
of
things
that
the
state
probably
looked
at
and
said:
that's
what
we
want
to
help
fund.
D
In
the
year
two
thousand
twenty
six
percent
of
our
housing
stock
was
affordable
to
low
income
families.
Today,
2016
9
percent
of
our
housing
stock
is
affordable.
So
there's
been
a
dramatic
change
in
who
can
live
here.
Who
is
able
to
have
a
short
commute,
take
advantage
of
our
wonderful
schools
and
parks
and
other
opportunities
and
I
do
think
that
the
state
wants
to
help
arly
tend
to
maintain
its
diversity
and
inclusivity.
Northern.

A
By
going
to
library,
arlington
VA
us
and
searching
for
arlington
mill,
the
arlington
county
board
selected
former
acting
county
manager
mark
schwartz
to
serve
as
county
manager
of
arlington
after
a
national
search
and
input
from
the
public.
Here
he
is
now
to
tell
us
more
about
his
role
as
county
manager.
Well,.
E
I'm
very
excited
about
it.
I
considered
a
great
opportunity,
I'm
thrilled,
that
the
board
has
confidence
in
me
and
it's
it's
a
new
board
and
I'm
excited
that
it's
actually
their
first
big
action,
they've
taken
I
think
the
priorities
that
I
laid
out
when
I
was
acting
manager,
the
ones
that
I
really
want
to
continue
to
emphasize,
and
so
there
are
three
areas
there.
One
is
economic
development,
and
that
is
the
number
one
priority
which
is
to
try
to
figure
out
how
to
make
arlington
attractive
for
businesses.
E
Second,
one
is
making
easier
to
do
business
and
to
get
information
from
the
county.
We
need
to
make
it
easier
for
people
to
get
access
to
the
data
we
have
as
a
county
and
also
make
it
easier
for
them
to
participate
technologies
ubiquitous,
and
we
need
to
be
adjusting
the
way
we
do
business
to
the
way
the
rest
of
the
world
has
been
doing
business
where
you
can
track
the
status
of
your
building
permit
or
what
it
is
you
what
it
is.
You've
purchased.
E
Those
kinds
of
things
I
think
are
almost
the
bare
minimum
of
what
people
expect
and
we're
not
there.
Yet-
and
we
know
how
to
do
it-
it's
been
proven
that
it
can
be
done.
So
that's
incredibly
important
people
should
expect
their
government
to
provide
service
to
them
in
the
same
way,
with
the
same
ease
that
they're
getting
it
from
from
a
business.
