A
We're
here
to
answer
some
key
questions
to
help
you
understand
how
arlington's
operating
budget
and
capital
plan
work
and
your
role
in
the
process.
First,
let's
take
a
look
at
how
the
program
services
and
projects
are
funded.
For
the
most
part,
our
revenue
is
generated
through
a
broad
range
of
taxes
and
fees,
with
the
bulk
coming
from
commercial,
real
estate
and
residential
real
estate
taxes.
A
The
rest
comes
from
things
like
personal
property
utilities
and
sales
taxes,
as
well
as
public
bonds,
state
and
federal
funding
and
developer
contributions.
So
where
does
all
the
money
go?
Arlington
county
pays
for
a
diverse
range
of
programs
projects
and
initiatives.
Schools,
the
police
and
fire
departments
are
funded
this
way,
as
well
as
things
like
street
maintenance,
our
art
bus
system,
trash
and
recycling
pickup,
but
also
libraries,
community,
centers
parks
and
programs
that
help
children,
families
and
older
adults.
A
It
provides
a
ton
of
things
for
this
community.
There
are
lots
of
things
to
consider
when
we
create
a
budget
and
that
responsibility
falls
to
me.
The
county
manager,
who
comes
up
with
proposals
to
submit
to
the
county
board
in
february
for
our
annual
operating
budget
and
every
other
may
for
our
capital
plan.
