From YouTube: Street Beat | Lynn Street
Description
ATV and DES are launching a new segment called "Street Beat", detailing all the work Arlington is doing keeping the streets safer and better maintained. In this first segment, we look at some operational improvements to help make the "Intersection of Doom" (Lynn St. and Lee Highway) a safer place.
A
Arlington
gets
top
marks
as
a
great
place
to
live
work
and
play,
but
potholes
water,
main
breaks
and
service
outages
are
a
fact
of
life
in
any
community
in
response
to
requests
about
how
the
county
deals.
With
these
issues,
we're
introducing
a
new
segment
called
street,
beat
here's
Larry
Marcus
to
tell
us
today
about
improvements
going
on
Lee
Highway.
B
Hi,
my
name
is
Larry
Marcus
I'm,
with
Arlington
County
Department
of
Environmental
Services
translation
engineering
operations
on
the
bureau
chief,
we're
here
at
lien
Lynn
in
Rosslyn
to
talk
about
pedestrian
safety
bike
safety
at
critical
intersection,
where
we
have
1700
cyclists
in
the
peak
over
the
summer
crossing
one
leg
of
the
intersection,
the
same
place
where
we
have
600
cars
per
hour
coming
off,
66
wanting
to
go
either
on
key
bridge
or
up
into
Rosslyn.
So
quite
the
challenge.
So
the
obvious
thing
to
do
is
separate
the
best
we
can.
B
These
movements
well
there's
certainly
an
opportunity
to
build
something
which
we're
going
to
begin
the
planning
on.
But
what
can
we
do
now
cheaply?
So
this
is
what
we've
done
and
it's
in
place.
We've
illuminated
a
special
turn
restriction
to
stop
those
vehicles
off
of
66,
allow
the
pedestrians
and
the
cyclists
to
start
early
to
have
their
own
time
about
ten
seconds
to
cross
that
leg
early.
Then
there's
the
countdown
time
to
let
them
clear
and
then.
B
Finally,
while
the
signals
still
green
for
the
vehicles,
there's
a
don't
walk
sign
for
those
peds
bikes,
and
then
it
lets
the
cars
clear
from
an
intersection
where
we're
have
won
the
top
five
worst
accident
rates
in
the
county.
It's
now
off
the
top
25
list,
based
on
those
operational
improvements,
that's
supported
with
the
enforcement
from
the
police,
which
is
very,
very
important,
as
well
as
the
education
from
the
police
for
those
violating
at
the
at
this
intersection
and
then
finally,
getting
the
word
out
as
we're
doing
now
and
few
other
venues.
