Events
are
held
rain
or
shine
in
the
parking
garage
that
stretches
over
I
66
and
North
Quincy
Street.
On
the
first
Saturday
of
every
month.
Bruno
vember
will
hear
from
vendors,
shoppers
and
volunteers
about
this
fun
event,
but
first
the
Arlington
reads:
2008
launch
and
national
library
week
celebration.
We
begin
with
Diane
crèche
director
of
libraries
here.
C
This
afternoon,
for
our
kickoff
program
for
the
third
annual
Arlington
reads:
program,
which
is
a
celebration
of
reading
in
our
community
and
it's
an
opportunity
for
the
library
in
the
library
staff
to
connect
with
community
members
around
common
themes.
This
year
were
delighted
to
be
celebrating
the
twin
themes
of
inclusion
and
immigration,
and
we
are
indeed
fortunate
today
to
have
with
us
two
members
of
our
County
Board
Chairman,
Walter
Tejada
and
new
board
member
Mary
Hines,
who
are
joining
us
as
we
launch
our
Arlington
reads
this
afternoon.
Thanks
for.
D
Taking
time
to
be
here
this
afternoon,
it's
a
spring
afternoon,
we
could
all
be
doing
some
other
things
out.
There
I
was
engaging
in
some
of
the
joys
of
homeownership
earlier
this
morning
by
mowing
my
lawn
and
doing
other
things
they
know,
but
I
thought
was
important
to
come
here
and
be
part
of
this
very
important
event
and
it's
a
pleasure
to
be
once
again
together
with
home
and
they
web.
We
were
together.
D
Yes,
it
was
what
it
is
in
October
last
year
or
something
in
the
center
for
multicultural
Human,
Services
held
an
event
in
in
in
fairfax
entitled.
We
are
America
now,
and
so
the
two
of
us
were
two
of
the
many
speakers
that
were
presented
to
highlight
the
positive
contributions
that
immigrants
bring
to
our
country.
Arlington
reads:
basically,
there
were
three
major
goals:
promotes
literacy
and
the
joy
of
reading
builds
community.
E
D
Stimulating
the
dialogue,
our
civic
involvement
in
one
of
the
most
important
things
we
all
need
to
be
doing
collaboration
work
together.
It
fosters
also
inclusiveness
and
understanding
among
the
diverse
citizenry
and
in
order
to
be
a
proud
to
have
a
very
diverse
community,
and
so
this
is
a
terrific
initiative
that
Arlington
reads
is
focusing
on
this
year,
so
our
community
will
read
two
books,
one
adult
selection
and
one
for
young
people
which
discuss
themes
related
to
social
justice
and
immigration.
C
F
Left
Vietnam
when
I
was
seven,
and
so
you
could
say
most
of
my
memories,
of
more
growing
up
in
the
United
States
and
really
of
my
first
seven
years
in
Vietnam,
but
I
do
have
some
good
memories
of
Vietnam,
specifically
just
I'm
from
a
very
large
family,
the
small
fishing
town
southwest
of
Saigon
or
now
a
ho
Chi,
Minh
City.
But
I.
F
I
do
have
those
memories
that
are
very
vivid
and
being
out
at
sea
for
a
couple
of
days
and
running
out
of
food,
and
one
of
my
sisters
being
was
deathly
ill
ill
and
my
parents
thought
they
would
have
to
throw
her
overboard
because
she
was
so
ill
and
and
just
being
adrift.
But
you
know
there
were
so
many
of
us
out
there
in
the
ocean
in
the
same
position,
there
were
just
sees
the
votes
and
I
have
memories
of
US
Navy
picking
boat
people
from
their
boats
up
on
to
the
big
ships
and
I.
F
Remember
first
folks
that
I
recall
seeing
was
this
huge
Navy
ship,
picking
up
people
by
net
and
I?
Remember
being
people
falling
out
of
net
and
we
didn't
make
it
on
that
boat
that
particular
ship,
but
until
a
day
or
two
afterwards,
and
and
we
were
picked
up
by
a
navy
ship
that
actually,
instead
of
picking
people
up
by
net,
we
were
able
to
go
up
an
escalator.
So
that
was
my
first
experience
with
the
West
I've
never
gone
on
an
escalator
before
and
I
didn't
know
where
we
were
going
to.

A
A
G
I
give
a
Malo
great
big
round
of
applause,
to
flick,
I
and
lost
cats.
Always
it's
been
a
great
afternoon.
I.
Think
of
sharing
personal
experience
with
culture
and
with
reading
for
pleasure,
I
did
have
just
one
more
person
to
recognize
county
board
member
Mary
Hines
joined
us
here,
we're
so
happy
to
have
her
and
thank
you
very
much
for
coming.
