Description

The Commission on the Status of Women held its annual award ceremony to honor women of vision in Arlington. We'll tell you more about that event later in our program, but first...
Arlington celebrated Arbor Day at Barcroft Elementary School, with its 18th consecutive Tree City USA Award from the National Arbor Day Foundation. Arlington also honored 18 new Notable Trees and their caretakers. This brings us to 283 registered notable trees, which contribute to our ever-growing tree canopy. To see them all, check our website at environment.arlingtonva.us keyword notable.
It just got safer to walk and bike in Pentagon City. The County upgraded the area around South Hayes Street which sees thousands of bus, rail and bike riders each day. There are new traffic signals and crosswalks, as well as landscaping to beautify the neighborhood. For more information on the Pentagon City project, type multimodal into the search engine at arlingtonva.us.
Arlington recently celebrated the reopening of Rocky Run Park, which has something for everyone! For kids, there's a new tot lot and playground. Adults will enjoy the new courts, synthetic turf field, and outdoor fitness opportunities. Plus, there's a picnic shelter and landscaping that makes the park a great place to pass the time. Check it out at the corner of N. Barton Street and Fairfax Drive in the Courthouse area, and find any park using the find a park feature on the county website.
The Women of Vision awards are presented each year by the Arlington County Commission on the Status of Women as part of the celebration of Women's History Month. The awards are given to individuals who demonstrate a strong commitment to women's issues in the community. Take a look.
