Description
A segment of AVN's monthly magazine show, "Here/now." In this segment, our resident pop historian Jim Byers checks out some great old home movies from the Glencarlyn Parade some 50 years ago, and tries to date the footage precisely.
A
B
You
know
mystery
films
and
you
know
things
that
you're
not
sure
exactly
when
they
might
have
been
taken.
You
can
look
at
the
clothes
you
can
look
at
the
cars
and
make
a
pretty
good
guess
and
from
what
I'm
singer
there's
a
late
40s,
General
Motors
car
in
the
background
there,
but
the
Styles
things
like
the
capri
pants
that
the
women
are
wearing
if
they
look
a
little
more
1950s.
So
let's
look
a
little
bit
more.
That's
just
I
think
a
kaiser
from
the
early
nineteen
fifty.
So
that
puts
us
into
the
50.
B
But
again
you
notice
the
clothes
that
people
are
wearing.
You
know
all
the
the
adults
are
dressed.
You
see
a
lot
of
sundresses
and
you
know
nowadays
people
just
be
in
jeans,
but
you
know
here's
a
you
know
your
typical
suburban
mom
with
the
sun
dress
on,
and
that
was
a
1956
Ford
that
was
there
so
and
I'm
1955
Plymouth.
So
we
know
where,
at
least
towards
the
mid,
later
mid
fifties,
and
it's
also
great
you
see
a
lot
of
the
the
no
sidewalk
which
of
course,
won't
think.
B
B
Wow
yeah:
that's
a
19th
55
now
1954
Ford
police
car,
the
leaves
back
there
so
yeah
we're,
at
least
in
the
mid-1950s
we've
at
least
gotten
up
to
nineteen
fifty-six
and
I'm.
Looking
at
country
costume,
there's
a
lot
of
grass
skirts
and
hula
skirts
in
the
in
the
in
the
crowd,
so
I'm
wondering
if
that
might
be
connected
to
the
Hawaii
becoming
a
today,
so
that
would
have
been
1959
so
again
we're
putting
it.
You
know,
certainly
in
the
late
nineteen
fifties.
B
B
You
see
a
lot
of
the
Latin
costuming.
Of
course,
Latin
music
was
was
a
very
big
in
the
1950s
week.
We
tend
to
think
back
now
and
immediately
think,
oh
as
soon
as
1950
hit
midnight,
nineteen
fifty
people
started
doing
rock
and
roll
and
did
away
with
big
bands,
but
Mambo
and
cha-cha-cha
were
all
very
popular.
There's
a
Spanish
seniorita
there
and
yeah.
So
you're,
really
seeing
a
reflection
of
what
people
were
interested
in.
B
B
Looking
at
the
clothes,
you
don't
see
a
whole
lot
of
shorts.
Even
you
know
several
of
the
the
adult
men
are
wearing
long
pants.
You
see
women
and
sundresses
and
capri
pants.
I
would
say
that,
especially
because
the
newest
cars
in
the
in
the
film
are
1955
plymouth
and
a
nineteen,
fifty
six
or
so,
and
they
have
a
lot
of
shots
of
different
car
than
the
you
see
cars
from
table
from
the
immediate
post-war
period.
B
You
see
a
lot
of
1946-47
era,
automobile,
a
few
early
fifties,
cars
and
a
couple
of
newer
cars
that
looks
to
be
pretty
much
brand
new,
so
I
would
say
that
that
just
based
from
somewhere
between
1957
and
in
1960
at
the
very
latest,
but
again
just
judging
by
the
hair
styles
that
are
more
rooted
in
in
1940's
style,
the
look
of
the
addresses
that
people
are
wearing
and
the
cars
that
are
that
are
in
here.
I
would
say
that
it's
definitely
between
1957
and
1960.
A
Wow
fascinating
stuff
Jim
thanks
much
and
we'd
really
like
to
thank
j,
big
bundaberg
for
the
use
of
his
home
movie,
and
if
you
have
some
old
film
of
arlington
that
you
think
would
be
of
interest
to
the
whole
community.
