Description
The people and places making news in Arlington County, VA
A
A
B
Just
feels
terrific,
I
mean
the
bond
issue
was
voted
on
in
1998,
so
to
see
this
after
all
of
the
kind
of
fits
and
starts
and
and
working
with
the
schools
to
make
it
happen.
At
one
time
there
were
going
to
be
two
facilities
on
the
site,
and
then
we
decided,
oh
no,
it
made
sense
to
join
and
have
this
kind
of
campus
effect.
So
I
think
the
fact
that
it's
here
and
it's
no
longer
a
gleam
in
the
eye
is
so
important
not
only
to
the
county
staff
but
to
the
community.
B
A
C
The
county
and
the
schools
continue
to
look
at
ways
that
we
can
collaborate
and
work
together,
so
I
think,
there's
continuing
an
ongoing
dialogue.
There
are
some
formal
things
that
are
already
in
place
that
we're
looking
at
and
so
I
think
we'll
continue
to
do
that.
I
think
it's
just
a
realization
that
we
have
to
recognize
in
the
current
climate
that
we're
in
and
how
can
we
realize
efficiencies
and
work
together?
There's.
B
An
opportunity
with
our
youth
services
programs,
our
Teen
Advisory
Board,
to
really
engage
the
students
in
new
ways
so
that
they
can
help
the
older
generation,
learn
technology
skills
and
become
more
comfortable
with
the
internet
and
those
kinds
of
things.
So
there's
a
real
possibility
for
its
for
synergy
with
the
combination
of
the
two
programs,
the.
A
D
Teenage
parenting
programs
are
alternative
educational
programs
for
pregnant
and
parenting
teens.
Here
in
Arlington
County.
We
offer
a
way
for
a
girl
to
get
her
high
school
diploma
when
she
finds
herself
in
this
particular
situation,
and
we've
had
programs
since
1970.
So
we
are
celebrating
our
40th
year
of
educating
pregnant
teens.
You.
E
D
E
They
weren't
great
spaces,
but
the
excitement
within
that
program
and
the
commitment
of
these
young
girls
to
keep
in
school
and
to
provide
a
better
future
for
their
babies
was
just
very
inspiring
to
me
and
to
see
them
coming
into
this
facility
right
with
a
library
and
with
all
the
other
amenities
here
is
just.
It
brings
together
so
much
that
special
about
Arlington.
We.
E
Am
thrilled
that
my
last
official
act
as
county
manager
will
be
joining
all
of
you
and
cutting
this
ribbon,
because
I
do
think
this
project
is
symbolic
of
a
lot
of
what
really
is
important
in
Arlington.
One
of
the
things
I've
tried
to
emphasize
during
my
tenure
asst
manager
is
that
the
county
government
is
not
here
just
to
provide
services.
It
is
what
we
do,
but
it's
not
the
end
unto
itself.
E
This
is
the
end
game.
This
is
what
we're
trying
to
do
and
I
feel
so
privileged
to
have
been
a
part
of
it.
Thank
you
all
for
making
this
happen,
I
just
think
by
any
objective,
quantitative
or
subjective
measure,
Arlington's,
just
a
great
community,
and
you
you
feel
that
with
the
people
here,
and
so
you
know
to
have
been
part
of
that-
it's
just
it's
very
exciting,
but
it's
also
a
feeling
of
really
deep
humility,
because
the
things
that
we
create
in
Arlington.
This
is
a
great
example.
E
You
look
all
around
here:
it's
not
just
the
building,
it's
all
of
it.
It
takes
a
whole
lot
of
people
and
whoever
you
are
you're,
just
one
person
in
the
mix
and-
and
so
you
feel
good
about
having
the
road
to
be
part
of
that
team.
But
you
know
you're
only
a
team
member
and-
and
that
then
makes
me
feel
really
confident
about
Arlington's
future.
We've
got
a
great
tradition
and
a
great
legacy
that
is
built
by
a
lot
of
people
and
the
continuity
of
this
community.
Continuing
forward
will
happen.
