Description

Could changes be coming to the area around Courthouse Metro? Arlington wants your input and we'll tell you how you can get involved later in our program, but first...

Arlington has a new County Board member! Attorney John Vihstadt captured 57% of the vote in a recent special election. Vihstadt was sworn in on April 11 and participated in his first Board meeting the next day. He's lived in Arlington since 1981, and has been active in County advisory groups and commissions, the Civic Federation, and Arlington Public Schools. The Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing celebrated its purchase of the Arna Valley View Apartments. This adds 101 units to Arlington's affordable housing stock, in an area that was historically home to low-income residents. The Partnership financed the purchase by combining loans from three Arlington County programs and two Virginia state programs. For more information, go to apah.org.

The Arlington Civitan Flea Market is one of Northern Virginia's largest and oldest public flea markets. It's tucked away in the I-66 garage, adjacent to Washington-Lee high school. With more than 150 vendors selling goods of all sorts, you're sure to find something interesting. Check it out on the first Saturday of the month from April through November. For more information about vendors and items, go to Arlington-fleamarket.com.

Envision Courthouse Square is a community planning effort to re-imagine the County's civic center and create a great public destination. It's currently in its early planning stages. Take a look...

There are lots of ways to get involved in the planning process. Check arlingtonva.us, keyword courthouse square, to find out about upcoming workshops and meetings. You can also sign up to receive updates on the project.

The weather is nice at last, and it's time for spring cleaning! Arlington's curbside trash and recycling services pick up a wide variety of items, from yard waste to mattresses. You can schedule a pickup for appliances, and drop off hazardous household materials like rechargeable batteries at the County's collection site. For a chart listing things that can be trashed or recycled, check the Trash & Recycling page on our website at recycling.arlingtonva.us.

That's it for another week. Thanks for watching! We'll see you Around Arlington.
