From YouTube: Gathering PLACE
Description
PLACE is an initiative to help more residents of Arlington VA engage with each other and in local government decisions. It was launched in January by Board Chair Mary Hynes. We take a look at what has been happening since the launch, whether it has really helped people engage, and what the future holds for Arlington's PLACE.

An
effort
to
put
a
little
bit
more
specificity
around
it
that
what
worked
in
the
50s
when
we
had
a
hundred
thousand
people
who
lived
here
in
our
government
was
much
smaller
and
the
world
was
lots.
Less
complex
doesn't
translate,
really
well
22,
210,000
people
and
200,000
jobs
and
people
from
a
hundred
different
countries
who
use
social
media
all
the
time
and-
and
so
this
first
phase
of
place,
where
we're
focusing
on
participation,
is
an
effort
to
map
better
all
the
ways
that
people
affiliate
here
in
our
community
and
route
themselves
in
place.

The
many
features
of
place
are
open
door
mondays,
where
county
board
members
hold
sessions
at
locations
across
arlington
residents
can
meet
with
a
board
member
and
discuss
their
concerns
on
any
topic.
In
addition,
some
county
staff
members
are
receiving
intensive
training
and
civic
engagement,
helping
to
improve
dialogue
at
civic
associations,
meetings
and
other
gatherings.
Today,.

Now
and
December,
we
want
to
develop
a
framework
that
the
county
board
can
adopt.
That
will
guide
our
work
together
in
the
future
and
the
reason
that's
important
is
there's
a
lot
of
players
in
any
community
process
and
trying
to
put
a
framework
together.
So
we
all
understand
the
journey.
We're
going
to
make
in
the
process
is
really
important.
The
decision-making
gets
better
when
more
people
are
involved.
So
it's
just.
How
can
we
streamline
and
how
can
we
use
technology?
How
can
we
make
it
work
without
losing
the
face
to
face
piece?
That's
really
important.
