From YouTube: Glebe Road/Route 50 Overpass Ribbon Cutting
Description
Arlington celebrated the conclusion of an 18 month project to renovate and improve the Glebe Road overpass over Route 50. Following an event in March of 2009 when cement chunks fell from the bridge onto Route 50, Arlington and VDOT worked together to create a better solution to the needs of this major north-south corridor in the county.

Good
morning,
I'm
sorry
we're
gathered
here
for
a
situation
where
we
actually
did
have
some
concrete
falling
off
of
our
bridge
here
on
route
50
near
the
intersection
of
glebe
road.
This
bridge
has
been
slated
for
the
past
10
years
for
replacement,
so
we're
really
hoping
to
replace
this
bridge.
We
want
to
ensure
people
have
a
safe
trip
on
route
50.

The
bridge
was
actually
deteriorating,
so
we
had
to
reinforce
it.
We
had
to
do
something
to
Arlington's
credit.
They
sat
down
with
Vida
and
said:
look
since
we
have
to
repair
the
bridge.
Why
don't
we
think
about
a
multimodal
opportunity
here,
something
that
will
work
for
pedestrians,
for
bicyclists,
for
for
traffic,
make
it
attractive
on
and
make
it
something
that
really
does
connect
the
north
and
south
parts
of
the
county.
So
we
went
through
a
couple
of
redesigns
and
came
up
with
something
that
I
think
is
not
just
a
infrastructure
project.
